  1. This. He’s a great athlete that could be a great fielder at several different positions given a chance. That assumes health and he hits.
  2. The idea was sound they just picked the wrong trade targets. If the FO had any ability to draft and develop pitching they wouldn’t have had to do those deals. That’s where the real problem lies.
  3. You are missing my point. It’s not the travel it’s that they don’t get an extended chance to adapt to pitching in the big leagues. How many players hit the ground running when first called up? Not many. It takes some time to learn how your stuff can get big league hitters out. Or not.
  4. What worries me is that Buck had surgery last fall and rehabbed all winter and spring and it looks like the knee is a problem again just dhing. That does not bode well for the future. On a related note I really don’t know if I believe not playing in the field makes that much difference. What if Buck played in the field but sat every 4th game? That’s still 120 games and we get to see the best CF in baseball.
  5. If Buck cannot regularly play CF in the future then Lewis should move there. Get your best athletes at the premium defensive positions.
  6. Interesting. Bullpen numbers are better than I expected.
  7. I have wondered if the “shuttle” is part of the problem. These never get a chance to settle in and have an extended run. In essence we never give them enough time to even tell if they could make it.
  8. Another example of mlb stupidity when it comes to marketing their product.
  9. Nice summary. It would be interesting to see the pitching numbers for starters only. The bullpen has been a frustration but Thielbars return should help a lot.
  10. Hat tip to Polanco. Everyone wants to move on from him even though he is one of their best players when healthy.
  11. Unfortunately lots of choices. FO has to be on the list for this bullpen and one dimensional lineup.
  12. The ump isn’t good but you can’t be taking balls an inch outside or low with two strikes. It’s stupidity.
  13. His defense isn’t deficient it’s borderline horrible. No arm no hands and no range. He will hit but probably not enough to be a full time dh.
  14. As I’ve posted before I love the way Barland attacks the zone. I hope several other Twins pitchers are taking notes. Castro is really carving out a spot on this club. What an arm that kid has. Speaking of arms one who doesn’t have one is Julien. He has been a nice story but he is a dh and I doubt he produces enough with the bat to be a dh. Trade bait.
  15. I think the title should be It’s ok to be hopeful about the Twins. There is nothing impressive about this lineup or bullpen.
  16. I’m sure Max will light the fire. Sorry Wallner all those hits and power aren’t needed anymore.
  17. Combination of bad luck and walking guys. Mix the two and it can be ugly. The other thing is that he hasn’t been in the league that long. There may have been some adjustments made by the other teams.
  18. I really like Varland. He really attacks the hitters and fills up the zone. Because of that he is going to get jumped on sometimes like last night but give me that over the nibblers. I think the old concept of protect the plate with two outs is still valid especially with some of these umps.
  19. Rocco is not the problem nor the solution. I was a CEO for 30 years and always told my Board of Directors that when I hire the right people I’m a management genius. When I don’t I’m not nearly as smart. This is about the FO folks. That is where the focus and attention should be directed.
  20. Would he be better than Garlick in the Garlick role? Superior defender but hitting has been bad. If he only faced lefties? His right handed swing was good but he was horrible from the left side.
  21. I wish Helman wasn’t hurt. With the numbers he has put up it would be worth a look.
  22. I have an easy solution. When Kepler comes back Rocco sits him down and says Max you are now a CF. If you don’t like it you can sit next to me on the bench.
  23. Something about walks that tend to make pitchers unlucky. If my memory is correct he wasn’t real good during the second half last year. Perhaps the league has adjusted to him.
