  1. I hope he makes it just for the knuckleball. He had a good year in A ball but he really should as a 23 year old college pitcher. This year will be a much bigger test.
  2. I am reasonably certain that in all my years reading and posting on this site that is the first reference to Kirkegaard. I like it.
  3. This typifies why I don’t like the trade. We traded away quality and got back quantity. Any free agent signing for $5 million is by definition a nothing sandwich.
  4. Hmmmm…..he signed for exactly the rest of the Polanco trade savings. I would just like to take this opportunity to thank the Pohlad family for their generous financial support of our local nine. Cue up Dave St Peter complaining about lack of fan support.
  5. I would have thought - Geez the Twins didn’t get what they really needed. You think this deal is the difference maker?
  6. I e noticed this as well. I believe it was Kohl Stewart that was supposed to be this really hard thrower hitting mid to upper 90s. When he started pitching professionally his fastball was low 90s and nothing special.
  7. Yea that’s not how it works. Supply and demand determine the price. It SEEMS like prices are going up. What we “paid” for Gray or Maeda several years ago has nothing to do with current prices. Probably why Polanco and prospects didn’t get us a top end pitcher.
  8. Is there some blue light special where good starters are half price on Tuesday afternoons?
  9. Me either. With these prices the Twins go to move of trading for starters may not be viable going forward.
  10. Interesting information and a good counterpoint. I think the disappointment comes from expectations of a Lopez type of deal and that DeScal hasn’t been good lately. So here’s hoping he is healthy and effective as that is one of the possible outcomes.
  11. I see AK being in the same boat as Larnach Wallner Julien Miranda and to a lesser extent Lewis and Jeffers. They all have to still prove they are consistent big league hitters for the long run. I think AK has a higher ceiling with the bat than the others except Lewis but he has to do it.
  12. Really? Not trying to be argumentative but what free agent bat out there as good as Polanco is coming here for less than $10 million?
  13. The thing I don’t understand is how the Twins could be so unprepared for this. They’ve been unhappy with Bally for years and obviously knew their contract was expiring yet seem totally perplexed by this situation. They should have been lining up options two years ago.
  14. Apparently we are focused on bringing in a bat. Who may not be any better than Polanco. Go figure.
  15. The metric I like a lot better than Stuff + is getting outs. He hasn’t been very good at that. He is young enough to have hope but there are very real reasons to be skeptical.
  16. Correct! After thinking about this deal and listening to Gleeman I think this is what happened. The FO were essentially forced to deal Polanco if they were going to have any money or flexibility to make something happen. When they couldn’t make a deal for a playoff quality starter they took the best deal they could get. They got value in the trade they just didn’t get what they needed most. The option of keeping Polanco was swept off the table by ownership. The Pohlads deserve huge criticism for this off season. I don’t care about the TV deal. If you want to pinch pennies sell the team. You bought it for $32 million and it now worth billions. Honest to god it’s like they are running a town ball team.
  17. Don’t want to derail this thread but we are now looking to maximize the $4 million in savings from the Polanco deal? The Pohlads need to be seriously roasted for the way they are setting the payroll this year. Why have the fans just accepted this crap?
  18. Yep. I was just kidding. I am disappointed in the deal but do like adding to the pen with something other than waiver wire pickups.
  19. You had to go and do that didn’t ya? Just when I was warming to the bullpen being better aspect of this trade.
  20. But they have to use more of them. Polo plus prospects gave us the biggest bang for the buck.
  21. Here is the other problem with this deal. The Twins best trade chip to acquire a good controlled starter was Julien or Polanco and prospects. They have now spent that chip and not got what they really needed. To acquire that starter now is going to really hurt the farm.
  22. To my knowledge nobody in the Twins organization has said they will have a $145 million payroll. There is no way it goes that high.
