    I don’t disagree that Castro is the better player but that’s really not the point. The difference between the two isn’t huge and optioning Castro for a short period of time allows the Twins to keep both which the FO loves to do.

    I don’t think my assessment of Julien is popular. I understand your viewpoint but will disagree that Lewis and Lee are in the same boat as Julien in terms of upside. Julien is not in the same class as Lewis and Lee. Right now his max value for the Twins is a trade piece for a good pitcher. I value Julien as he is a good hitter but I just think he is the right person to trade for pitching. Especially because Polo can play second for a year or two when some combination of Lewis or Lee will take over second.

    I would trade Julien in a heartbeat for one of Seattles young starters. Julien is a good hitter but we may have received his max production in 2023. He’s not a good fielder and doesn’t hit lefties. Sell high.

    In my view trading him now would yield little or nothing. I would rather hang on to him and see if 2022 reappears. The way our FO hates to give up assets I wouldn’t be shocked if they optioned Castro and let it play out. Something would happen early on in the season to make the decision easy whether it is injury poor play etc.

    So he strikes out 34% of the time in the minors. How many players strike out less in the big leagues? Maybe Wallner but most players strikeout rates go up. He will match Gallos strikeout rate so there is that.

    This isn’t going to happen. They owe him 100% of the contract. Why would he take less when he accepted less when he signed the deal.

    Yea the whole notion is kind of silly. If you want to play young players then play them. You don’t need a payroll cut to justify it.

    So I guy that strikes out a ton and has no defensive value. Doesn’t walk but will run into a cookie in the minors once a week. This is more prospect puppy love.

    Signing Donaldson was a huge mistake and set in motion a series of unfavorable events. Since we’ve been looking for a good right handed hitter since he left the Garver trade has been a disaster.

    I believe Lee will be better than Julien. Switch hitter that should play plus defense. I like Julien but he is a platoon player that may end up a DH.

    I would trade Julien before Polo. He has enough value to be a part of a package that could return a good starter.

    I like it except I want no part of a bullpen that has Sands Moran and Alcala.

    Good god no. It’s not even a question and no he is not going to be taken. Horrible draft pick and really poor theoretical choice. His best possible outcome was always going to be a poor defender who was going to hit some homers but not much else. Guys like that are available all the time. Absolutely don’t have to waste a first round pick for that profile.

    It’s also important to remember the list includes players from multiple drafts. For example Kiriloff was drafted by the old FO. It’s natural that only the best of each draft will comprise a top 30 list.

    They were dhing Julien and having Polanco play second whenever possible. When Royce got hurt Polo played third because he was their only choice. Polo is significantly better in the field at second than any other options especially Julien. I like Julien but as a dh.

    Depends on which Kepler you are going to get going forward. Great chance to sell high.

    This. I am not interested in adding a 4th starter. I want somebody better than Ryan and Ober. I also agree I would rather give up money than prospects but that’s not the way this FO rolls

    Perhaps. I have no idea if there was bias involved but it was reported fairly widely. I assume that was when they weren’t getting their TV money.

    I guess I am the curmudgeon (or the voice of reason). Lots of posts here saying he has big league stuff he just has to get there etc. we do realize that he has never got a hitter out above AA right? No minor league pitcher is guaranteed anything when it comes to being good at the big league level. To assume otherwise is just prospect puppy love. To be clear I want him to be the next great Twins pitcher. Before I assume that he needs to do it.

    The Twins will absolutely pick up his option. Because I would not extend him I would trade him sometime between now and the next trade deadline.

    I am going to have more patience with our FO than I normally do. Between Buxton and AK health and an uncertain revenue situation they really have to thread a needle this off-season. Just saw the Padres had to borrow $50 million last season to make payroll. I guess it might be the right time to roll the dice with some kids. I also do not expect a free agent starter to be signed but likely a trade for one.

    I wish him nothing but the best. His role is irrelevant right now as he has two big hurdles to get over. First stay healthy. Second show that he can get AAA hitters out. Until then no point worrying about it and the Twins should not be planning on him for anything.

    I think one thing that is important is that these broadcasters come into your living room 162 times a season. Given is important to pick somebody who will wear well. I think Marney checks that box

    I’m excited to have Lees bat in the lineup as he looks to be a well rounded hitter. However there is no chance he breaks spring training with the Twins and I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t debut until 2025.
