  1. I missed this as well. This has the potential to be a problem.
  2. No I’m saying I don’t agree with drafting one dimensional players as often as the Twins do.
  3. There are plenty of mistakes made by the front office but this isn’t one of them. Due to options roster spots etc you sometimes have to decide on guys before you would like to. Combine that with the fact that some guys just don’t become effective players until they are older and this situation will come up. We may well be in the same boat with Larnach and Kiriloff soon. My biggest criticism of this situation is the drafting philosophy behind selecting Rooker. He like Wallner Sabato etc are one trick ponies that offer no defensive value or speed and athleticism. It shows in the big club today: below average defense and no speed or ability to create runs other than the long ball.
  4. I don’t want to pile on Julien as he is only one of many guys that are struggling but he lacks feel and instincts in the field. Playing middle infield needs to be second nature as there are so many little things happening. Everything in the field looks forced with him.
  5. Sure he’s a lottery ticket. My reference is the Twins said they weren’t trading him for prospects. In terms of benefitting this years team they turned him into nothing.
  6. People are missing the point. Payroll cuts dictated that Polo was going to be traded. Fine - get a pitcher but they couldn’t and instead of dealing Julien or some other combination they had to take whatever they could get for Polo which essentially was G Gonzalez after they said he wasn’t going to be dealt for prospects. So the point isn’t that Polo isn’t hitting right now the point is payroll cuts forced them to take a deal that didn’t help them in 2024. That’s the point of the article.
  7. His glove will be a huge help. I think the Twins hitting philosophy is horrible for Buck. He’s always had a longish swing that doesn’t make him quick to the hitting zone and then they are telling him essentially to guess and swing out of your shoes. Hence the pull heavy swings that make him vulnerable to many pitch locations. I would have him lower his hands and let the ball travel a little. A double to right center is an ok thing. He’s my favorite player so I hope he figures it out.
  8. Remember when the NFL had announcerless games. It was just the crowd noise and graphics with relevant info. Would love to hear a baseball broadcast do the same thing. So much of the ambiance of a game is the crowd noise.
  9. I didn’t see the game but it’s too bad SWR had a good game go to waste.
  10. Because at the time he was traded he was a valuable asset. What he has done since doesn’t matter. What matters is they took a valuable asset and turned it into next to nothing. I’m not saying trading him per se was bad - good teams take assets and turn them into more assets.
  11. So far. Gurriel has a track record. The point about the Polo trade is he was a valuable asset at the time of the trade. Literally one of the best middle infielders available in trade or free agency. They turned that asset into nothing. I have no problem trading either Polo or Julien to improve the team. They ended up having to take a bad deal because they had to dump his salary. They added no starting pitching. It’s ok to just admit that this past off season has been a cluster.
  12. I haven’t gotten into discussions about profit and loss because the only way to know is to have access to audited financial statements of Twins baseball LLC and related subsidiaries. I will say that I find it implausible that the Pohlads are losing money or even accepting a poor return on their investment which has to be in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
  13. Gleeman tweeted about a month ago that Forbes is reporting the Twins made $19 million last year.
  14. That would be the ultimate irony. The old saying of you can have 50% of something or 100% of nothing might apply here.
  15. Which of course goes back to the insanity of jumping back in bed with Ballys. The Twins sold their souls and crapped on their fans for money. They spent the last several years telling us how bad Ballys was and then fell all over themselves to take their money.
  16. I’m afraid they already have - maybe two generations.
  17. To me the brand is about the club overall not about short term wins and losses. I’m a huge Twins fan and always will be but my respect and love for the club is at an all time low right now.
  18. I don’t know about the ratings because good outfield play is subtle. Get a good jump and run a great route to the ball. In addition to his speed Buck is really good at this. The others are not. I really like Castro but I’ve seen multiple balls drop that Buck would have put in his hip pocket. Kep isn’t that fast but generally takes good routes and doesn’t make foolish decisions. I think Castro will be good with experience but still has work to do. The others are all below average with a ceiling of average. It’s a derivative of Falvines drafting strategy of just acquiring bats with little regard to fielding or overall athleticism.
  19. The idea that less money to spend is acceptable to more money to spend is nonsensical. You always want more resources. The payroll cuts dictated that Polo was going to be traded no matter what. Falvine ended up settling on a deal that did us no good this year and likely will never do us any good. They clearly needed a starter and had to take DeSclafani. They needed a right handed hitting outfielder that could actually play and they got Margot. Gurriel was a great fit but cost money. Falvine had to pull a rabbit out of the hat due to the payroll but instead pulled a skunk. Ownership is getting exactly what they deserve in fan apathy. Can’t wait for Dave St Peter to open his mouth on this subject.
  20. Yea this is a weak argument. One small sample offsetting another small sample. As far as his defense goes he has made several great plays and has made several brutal errors in critical situations. I was meh on the signing because it was driven by payroll cuts that I am not meh on.
  21. I am interested in if there is any data that suggests that load management prevents injuries? It seems like a common sense notion but the Twins seem very proactive in this regard yet their injury history is pretty bad recently. Makes me wonder if we are outsmarting ourselves.
  22. Concur. As is I think mlb hitters will do as you have stated - they won’t be helping him out with poor plate discipline. My hope is that he can continue to improve in this area to the point where it isn’t an issue. We will see if he gets there. In a normal injury year he would almost certainly get a chance at some point this year.
  23. Almost makes a person wonder why Martin played SS for years in the minors when everyone knew he would never play there in the bigs.
  24. I think people are overreacting to this. The guy has no real track record. Back of the bullpen arms are going to pitch more than one inning - somebody has too. Guys with options are going to ride the shuttle. We are not talking about Durán here.
