  1. I'm totally shocked that the TD voters didn't recognize that pitching wins games ... With the Twins starting pitching the best by far in 2023 , has everyone forgotten how bad the pitching was in 2021 and 2022 ... Pitching was the best asset in 2023 ... Ratings are definitely overrated ... Lopez was and will be again our best asset in 2024 ... Lee knocking on the door to the bigs and could be an asset this season and Jenkins still about a year away is an asset but not for the 2024 Twins season ... Pitching won games for us last year , if it wasn't for the great pitching we would not have won the division with a mediocre lineup ... I am totally shocked the TD voters didn't see this ..
  2. This is another dfa'd player before the season starts ... This guy was a first round pick in 2017 ,,, the OP didn't mention really any of his stats all in the minors ... He has walked 24% and struck out 27% , he can't seem to throw strikes , but who knows if our staff can harness anything out of him , 3 other clubs didn't .. Only thing he has going for him is he's has options to stash in st Paul as depth , but he takes a roster spot and if something better comes along he'll be dfa'd ... We are up to 38 roster spots , 1 starting pitcher and a 1 bullpen arm are needed , maybe found in the same trade , and maybe a quality contact hitter ... Reaching for straws and just another dumpster diving attempt , if Macky or minor league coaches can get him to throw strikes on a consistent basis , they will be deemed geniuses ....
  3. If the FO doesn't trade or sign a starting pitcher , we are going to go through alot of different starting pitchers , kinda like 2021 and 2022 ...
  4. I'm going with pitching , starting pitching was a high value in 2023 ... Lopez # 1 ....
  5. But falvey likes strikeouts , Yes He gets on base by contact or walks , would like to see those 2 strikes strikeouts cut down , like you mentioned protect the plate better , swing if it's close ... Adjustments need to be made and I doubt coaching will help ( they can suggest ) , it's up to him to be alittle more aggressive with 2 strikes , I'd rather see a swinging strike three ...
  6. We need pitching and if Funderburk can bring the thunder I'm all for it ... He showed us a small sample of what he could be in his first taste of the jitters of MLB baseball , I hope he has a good year and being lefthanded will be here to stay ... He didn't show much for jitters , he got his outs , gave up only 1 homer , less hits than innings pitched is good , but walked some batters , so he has some work to do ... We need pitching ...
  7. Ratings are really over rated ... Varland is valuable as a spot starter for now and a solid bullpen option ... Polanco is solid when healthy and is still a valuable player for the Twins ... Raya is young but hasn't been stretched out to 5 innings or more , he might end up being a great bullpen option from what he has shown so far in minors , he might end up a great starter as he builds strength to his frame , just to early to make a statement , is he even going to be in the majors in 2024 ... Wallner made improvements in 2024 in the outfield , still has some work to do ... Duran season in 2024 was good but I think he was better on 2023 , I can see why he slip in your rating ...
  8. Paddack is an asset if they manage his workload and just ease him along , if he can't go 5 innings a start , move him to the bullpen as a long reliever , we got him for 2024 and 2025 ... Martin can't hit for power , who cares if he makes contact for singles, doubles or walks , getting on base can be a table setter for the lineup and let the real homerun hitters hit the homers with men on base ... Kepler can be an asset if he keeps the cob webs out of his head , such a streaky hitter ... Boy it would be great if kiriloff could stay healthy , I like his approach to hitting and his power to the opposite field ... Festa shows promise and should be on 26 man roster at some point ...
  9. Dis we really need Solano last year , if it wasn't for his first base experience from previous seasons , I don't think the Twins would have went and got him ... He did a solid job for the Twins , we really didn't need him last year and maybe this year either , but I would take his bat again in the lineup ...
  10. I evaluate player's after 3 seasons to know what they are going to be in their careers , we know that Kepler has more than 3 years in his career so we know what type of player to expect , would like to believe he's cleared the cob webs out between his ears but he showed his ability in the playoffs , he doesn't come through in the clutch ... Castro should have alot of confidence after his season with the Twins , he played well , I see him as staying about the same ... Jeffers i still am not convinced with him , did he finally break out to be the hitter we all are hoping for , need another season to evaluate ... Stewart I hope stays healthy and gives us what he did in 2024 with less injuries , he could be the diamond in the ruff if management uses caution on his arm ... Lewis has been a game changer this past season , still just to early in his career to know exactly what his career will look like , injuries have given us a small sample size , but when healthy he has all the confidence in the world to succeed ... Wallner has a small sample size in his career and if any player is considered for regression it would be him , I'd like to believe he is our answer for years of service but I just don't see it at this time , GO Wallner ... Confident player's come through in the clutch ...
  11. Bring them on , I'm always up for a challenge ....
  12. Sign him cheap and add incentives to the contract if he performs as he did last season maybe he'll make alittle more ... Can he repeat what he did last year
  13. Any mention of Tovar and Carew and some of my favorite memories come back ... Tovar and carew in 1969 especially , the pair stole 5 bases that day between them , Tovar on second, carew on first , they pulled a double steal , Tovar to third , carew to second, but what was remarkable was that Tovar stole home next and carew stayed at second , few pitches later carew stole third , On third base carew steals home ... All these steals were in the third inning of a game against Detroit , early part of the season at met stadium ... We lost that day but we had players to be proud of , fun to watch pepe and sir rodney ... Another fond memory was pepe playing all nine positions ... The 60's and 70's had some great games to watch , win or lose there was some exciting baseball ... The last exciting play on offense that i remember is Ben Revere's somersault triple , he was fun to watch .... You don't have to hit homeruns to have an exciting game ...
  14. Buxton's ability to be a difference maker ... Staying healthy ... Would love to see the Buxton that hit the ball hard for doubles , his swing has changed more towards the homerun swing and the strikeouts are pathetic ... Would love to see Buxton turning his singles into doubles again ... Would love to see Buxton in centerfield again , this is where he has been a difference maker ... Staying healthy would be a difference maker ...
  15. I remember the article on vargas and sano .... I used to call sano boom boom but later I called him K-King ... Vargas I called bam bam , he hit from the left side and I think he crushed the ball further than sano ever did ... I remember all the other articles too but wanted to comment on vargas , I liked him ...
  16. Singles , doubles and triples can score runs too , having the most runs after nine innings will win you alot of games , they need some adjustments with runners in scoring position and with 2 strikes ... The games are alot more exciting when the player's hit the ball , it makes a world of difference , homeruns are nice , but how many were solo homeruns this past season , clutch homeruns are game changers , solo homeruns are not ... Got to have a better plan at the plate , we need runs to win ...
  17. The pitching In 2023 was very good , the starting pitching kept us in alot of games ... I would like Rocco to use more old school technics along with the new school approach ... But if we don't add a quality starting pitcher we are going to need the offense to step and score more runs , a bunt to move a player up a base would be okay, depending on who's in thexon deck circle , hitting behind the runner would help put a runner in scoring position , hit and runs , stealing we did improve on in 2023 ,, Adjustments on two strikes with runners on base needs to be addressed , again we need adjustments to the offense and we will need more runs per game for a winning team if the FO doesn't add a quality starter , less double plays would be nice too ... Seattle traded or dfa'd alot of there strikeout hitters , not everybody likes strikeouts ...
  18. Way to early , let's wait a year and have this discussion after a full Healthy year ...
  19. The thrill of the off season , maybe in 2024 as the calendar turns to January we could have a big thrill going into Twins fest ...
  20. Rocco Baldelli watches his team take the field on Opening Day, he will be hoping they can play the way they did down the stretch last year ... I think Rocco watches his spread sheets more than the players on the field ... Sorry , I couldn't resist ... My number 1 want is a bit of old school and new school combined in our game of professional baseball ... I truly believe we could get more runs scored by combining new and old strategies ... and we are going to need more runs if a quality starter isn't acquired ...
  21. It's obvious to the fans but management likes spread sheets ... Utilize both old school and new school baseball and you'll see a vast improvement in the hitters ...
  22. Varland is a very hard worker and has progressed at all levels , yes He lacks quality secondary pitchers but with hard work he could perfect a couple and be a solid option ... I say if we don't sign a quality pitcher , give varland 10 starts this year and see where he's at , if he succeeds leave him be ... If we sign a quality starter , put varland in the bullpen but keep him stretched out in long relief ... Then I'd probably give him one last try as a starter in 2025 ...
  23. I don't believe in regression , I believe in consistency and consistency is adjustments to the adjustments the other teams pitchers are making against them , if they can cut down on the strikouts , and the better players will and make consistent contacts and make something happen that should improve their hitting ... I see Lewis and Julian as the better players with a better approach , wallner has some work to do ... Please stay out of the double play , use the hit and run , hit behind the runner to the opposite field, maybe an occasional bunt depending on who's in the on deck circle and give the other team the out and put a runner into scoring position with 2 outs to go , got to improve on runner's in scoring position ... Go Twins ...
  24. We need both, starting pitcher and a decent big league hitter ...
  25. Yes he's lost his eligibility for rookie of the year ... I'll take his ceiling as a possible mvp candidate ...
