    I have to agree with Whitey that we can't really assume anything about payroll. Rodon would be nice but only on a sort term contract with mutual options, maybe something similar to what we signed Morris to back in 91, so both the team and player have options. We have to remember we have Maeda coming back at some point late next year or in 23, and a stable of promising youngsters that got stalled out due to covid. I think the trade route makes the most sense. Add Pineda, maybe 1more in that level of FA starter, but build up the pen. Pick up a GOOD defensive ss that can hit above the mendoza line and I think this team could be competitive. That being said, of course they will have to get back to playing good, fundamentally sound, baseball. Something they seem to have forgotten how to do under Rocco.

    I think He's better than one and done, but I don't see him getting in. Maybe some kind of spot in the Twins hall howvever?

    I agree that trading Lewis at this point would be down right foolish. I think he should probably start down at AA for a month or 2, then see where he's at. Maybe bump him up to AAA or if he's really going (and has had a good showing in the spring) jump straight to the bigs.

    I agree with those above. Having watched the Twins since day 1, I guess I have a bit of a jaded view. It is very interesting the way you broke it down by salary. Can't wait to see part 3 for your bench players. With that being said, no all time greatest Twins team can be complete without Harmon, regardless of cost. Afterall, he was truly the heart and soul of this team for over a decade!

    Interesting story. Lots of possibility. It will be interesting to see how this CBA comes out.

    As a young boy a group of us were playing a pick-up game and all of a sudden Mr. Kaat was standing there, glove in hand, giving us all little tips. An off day for the Twins I guess and he must have been driving by and saw a bunch of youngsters just having fun enjoying the game they all loved, and took an hour or 2 out of his day to teach us little things like the proper way to slide(feet first pop up style), glove down infield positioning, etc... That was back in the early to mid 60s, though I can't remember the exact year. He became my favorite Twin of all time. I'm so glad he finally got voted in.

    I completely agree that would put us in a better spot. Maybe he would accept 23 or above. I see the Tigers as being more aggressive than the Twins at this point. I really haven't followed the Rangers much. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see the Twins sign him. I just don't see history on our side.

    Speaking of "spin rate", reports say his spin rate dropped off quite a bit after the crack down on foreign substances last year.

    Like I said, just guessing. Why? based on what some of the other players have signed for and the fact that this franchise at this time isn't structured in a way that looks to be in a win now mode.

    The NY, California, Chicago, and maybe Texas team owners would love that. They could pocket billions. Local broadcast fees would have to be a part revenue sharing then.

    I doubt Story will accept that low of an AAV. I'm guessing it will take closer to 25 AAV or over to get him to sign here

    If the DH is put into the NL I think Sano increases his value also. Always a slow starter, but he could probably hit 40 or more homers in some of the smaller homer friendly NL parks.

    They could still sign austidillo! He has a better ERA

    There have been a few other great players that were injury "prone" early in their careers that at some point it changed around for them. Moliter comes to mind right off.

    Kuhl and Rodriguez look like interesting candidates. I'm sure Boyd will find a home, maybe he can become another one of those "crafty" leftys that seem to bounce around forever.

    I would hesitate on Rodon unless he's willing to do short term or maybe a contract structured with incentives to protect Twins. A trade for one of the A's pitchers would be nice, but only if they would allow us to talk extension before hand. Doesn't make much sense to give up that much for 1 year which in all reality probably wont be a serious year of contention. I think its almost a given (at least better than 50-50) that Pineda comes back.

    Of the 3 above I could go for the Mahle trade. He is younger with upside. Arraez is a tough loss and Canterino looks like he has a bright future but is unproven.

    I think you have to consider in the Mauer situation, 1- he was a hometown kid that had been MVP caliber for a few years, 2- He played a position that was extremely demnding and played it very well, posting numbers few had ever posted, 3- It would have been a PR nightmare to let him walk when the team was trying for so many years to gat a stadium built and had finally come so close. Yes there are times where big contracts go bad, but there ar also times where big contracts are the right move. Sometimes you just gotta go big or go home!

    I agree that the owners are ruining the game, but the players need to accept some responsibility too. Also, I agree with universal DH, just do away with the new extra inning rule, quit messing with the baseball, and I think the game was better when we had AL and NL exclusive umps. Maybe because the batteries could get to know them better and vice versa, but it seemed to me that the game took a turn for the worse when they changed that rule.
