  1. So if you cam’s waive players then the DFA players couldn’t be claimed during Agust, either. Some player would be denied a chance to be on a roster.
  2. Had the Twins snagged the 2 relievers and Refroe there wouldn’t have been complaints of unfairness nor that the system needs changing. If Cleveland nor Cincinnati make the playoffs the system would be considered working fine by mlb. Tanking for a draft pick at this point in the season. Players playing for a job next year. Every other team that was lower than the standings is in the same boat. Here is to hoping that the Reds Giants, Diamondbacks and Marlins win the draft lottery
  3. That should be apparent but nobody is going there. A deeper playoff run could have happened with a strengthened bullpen. You can’t let your competitor get better Blocking other teams from getting better happened in the days of revokable waivers. This time it cost Cleveland some money
  4. 28 games left I16 against teams with losing records right now not including 3 against Cleveland. f the Twins go 14-14 Cleveland would have to go 19-9 to tie the Twins in the standing. 20-8 to pass. There would have to be a collapse by the Twins, Cleveland’ gets a lot of hot batting, or a plane fell out of the sky for them to catch the Twins.
  5. Well, at this point it would be if the Reds or Marlins wanted a player as it would seem unlikely a non playoff contending team would put in a claim. Passing up a chance for a shutdown pullpen should b a no brained. Renfroe and Grichuck have had great careers but not great years. They would be better than Luplow
  6. When you look to see who have been MVPs in the playoffs you see about half of them are players playing above their normal levels. Cute can be necessary for a w
  7. I think you probably have to be a caretaker to get the worthy articles. Just a guess at what is there since I am not one.
  8. Pretty much mailed it. For priority, watch to see if the Twins tank Wed.
  9. If you have enough great players then team chemistry isn’t important. It does seem important as the time passes from the date freer agency was started it seems like the less there are the brawling teams. One of the things free agency allowed was to get away from people you couldn’t stand
  10. Using Baseball Reference statistics, being 0.3 years older than the average age of the players you are playing against is a problem? 2 years of low level JC baseball, one year of which he pitched only 9 innings. One mediocre year at D1 level. With that development level of his pitching, it was a reach to start him at Elizabethton and not the complex league. They probably should have called him up when they sent Moran down but the FO seems to like Ortega and Moran. When Ortega’s injury became enough, they got a 40 man spot for him
  11. Maeda had 12 great starts in a 1/3 season. That was his outlier year. The Dodgers had him as a swing starter/reliever. He is what he is. A back of rotation starter that can occasionally pitch a great game.
  12. Unless Carmago can hit at the major league level at a level to overcome his catching this is yet another losing trade by the Twins
  13. They are trying to make a fine grind of the horse that was the trade deadline
  14. Barlow is having a poor season that has continued to be poor in San Diego Robertson netted to teenagers who rank 12 and 20 in the Mets prospect rankings while they are in rookie level Sewald netted 2 near MLB ready prospects and a throw in. They were in the 10-15 range in rankings Hicks netted 2 prospects that were like 9 and 12., both were pitchers. The better offer for Robertson would have been like Soto and DeAndrade For Sewald it is probably Wallner, another prospect and Farmer or Castro 2 pitchers for Hicks the Twins probably do not have that to give up
  15. 0 fer. That is what the Twins did. Lopez didn’t bounce back, Alcala still injured, Moran didn’t develop, Winder didn’t develop. The backup plans DeLeon and Stewart injured. The back up backup plan of Headrick and Ortega was meh. Balazovic may yet develop, they never gave him leverage situations. His pitching was purely for development. It wasn’t a failure yet it wasn’t a success either. 0 fer 9 on nine pitchers. That would be an immaculate inning of failure
  16. How is trading for relief pitchers that have higher than average ERAs and blown saves galore improving the bullpen? They got Fulmer, who was having a good year last year, for not much. There was no Fulmer like pitcher traded this year.. So the choice was top reliever for top prospects, or a reliever not having a good year., or do nothing. The last choice was the option you railed against. So the second question is do you move top prospects for rentals?
  17. Fair enough assessment of the bullpen. Considering what was traded, do you dive up Rays and another top prospect for Sewell. Hicks went for decent prospects, Graveman went for decent prospects. It is all fine and Danny to want bullpen arms but the rest that were traded don’t seem to be all that different from what the Twins have.
  18. If anything should be learned from the Twins all these years is that good command and control will beat weaker teams. The better teams can find a way. The Twins have a history of command pitchers getting them to the playoffs
  19. Solid work at the A+ level will still get players released as it requires more than that for a reliever
  20. WillieCastro irreplaceable? Lewis, Lee, Larnach, Wallner, Julian,Prato and Miranda. If they retain Polanco and/or Kepler I think Castro is replaced. That doesn’t include the possibility of Gordon
  21. By touting where Taylor stands in cf rankings of ISO, in the context of the game of baseball this article shows the meaninglessness of the ISO stat on it’s own. Are the Twins better off with the “power” hitting Taylor rather than the player he was in KC,? Undoubtedly. Will the Twins be better off with a different CF? By WAR he is the 25th best CF with 300 PA.
