  1. Other than Tyler Wells the Twins have not lost a player that amounted to anything in the rule v draft. In thinking other teams would want the current crop of rule v eligible players that are not on the 40 man is wishful thinking at best. The Padres added a starting pitcher that right now is pitching like somewhere between a 5th starter and a batting practice pitcher. They added a reliever that is having a horrible year with an ERA over 5. They added a hitter that is about a league average hitter. They did not give up much to get them. They are only hoping that their past performances will come back. That would not be good additions to this version of the Twins. They already have a few players like that.
  2. The 87 Twins basically only added Shatzader by trade that helped the team win. Niekro was ineffective as a starter and pitched 1 inning in the WS. Carlton added nothing . Baylor was along for moral support. Floro would be the similar relief addition. Citing the 87 Twins actually supports the article
  3. Pretty much reason 3 stands as the most logical. Even in rentals Lopez showed them to stay awa y from career year players. Significantly better than average players would require significantly better than average prospects,, even for relievers. To fill the holes in the roster with these types of players would cost more capital than the Twins have, Adding only slightly better players has a low probability of changing the outcome.for the season.. The players they have playing up to their capabilities is what is needed,. That there is that difference is the problem with the team. Is it then the player, managers and coaches or front office’s fault? Maybe all three. The team still leads the division. Winning the games against the division opponents will be the determinant of the outcome of the season.
  4. No trades were made in 1991. That season must have been less interesting than most
  5. 7 and 10 million for relievers are not modest contracts A healthy Thilbar and Alcalla would have made a world of difference. Bullpen Lopez being adequate and suddenly the bullpen isn’t a black hole. That is probably why they didn’t sign much, though a Will Smith type contract would have been a great add.. Maybe he wanted to stay in the South
  6. They don’t need too much. The impossible of Correa and Buxton performing like the All Stars they once were, Polanco to be healthy. Vasquez to find the fountain of youth. Can’t trade to fix that. 3 durable relievers for the seventh/eighth innings so they can go with a six man rotation. The rotation does seem to be wearing down. A replacement for Solano wouldn’t be a bad idea. Not much but really is quite a bit
  7. What happened to the well thought out articles that used to be Twins Daily?
  8. In 5 years you may well know that Manzardo is a failed prospect. It doesn’t matter if Falvey can say the name or not.
  9. Ryan Doumit says hello. Perkins said of his catching the umpires would have a strike zone the size of a postage stamp.
  10. I wouldn’t call any of the players Atlanta and the Dodgers picked up to be anything great. You add sometimes to get better than what you have..
  11. Did not say anything was right or wrong to spend into tax on draft picks or not to. If there is a problem with not doing it, as the article seems to imply there ought to be something to back it. Logically it would seem that it would pay off, but if drafting and outcomes were easy to figure out Ober would not have been drafted so late.
  12. Yup, they went over slot. Still doesn’t show that it is of value to do so. Logically the better the player the better chance, but there hasn’t been proof it is of value
  13. Bonus pools started about 2012 the Twins have gone over slot value on a lot of players.
  14. I quit reading one he brought up Brent Rooker and touting his All Star status. So from that I would gather that the Twins should trade Larnach to as horrible of team as possible because somebody has to be the team representative.
  15. Did not read the comments. Somebody must remember the Rod Carew trade.
  16. Lopez was right for a half of a season of a nine year career. .
  17. Who is in St Paul that has not been in MLB. Funderburk Prato Bechtold Carmargo Helman Williams If they take a fixer upper SWR Miranda Martin One out of the first group, one out of the second and lower minor lottery tickets, likely to be pitchers.. I would also suspect it would take 2 of the first list, especially if they can offload one of their underperforming corner outfielders.
  18. OK, back of the bullpen is set with Pagan and Floro. Now they need a couple of 8th inning guys.
  19. Well, I hope they learned not to trade for a player having a career year on a terrible team.
  20. Jimmenez got 89 AB in complex games shots can be small His was from an air rifle. 31% k rate
  21. Career OPS away from Camden Yards .715. That is not a good sign
  22. Gallo and Kepler are not young. Gallo has no value except as a DFA where the Twins pick up his contract and the Twins get a 24 year old reliever in A ball. ,25,26 are not young in terms of baseball. In mlb experience they are young. I think pretty much any team has these players in their system. An unmet ceiling, a hole here and there in their game. The only one of value really would be Wallner for a bat if it stays hot and a contender wants a bat. The return would be the same as a rental. So the question becomes are the Wichita outfielders wood enough to play? Don’t. Know
  23. Like the Twins with left handed outfielders, it is not a logjam as much as it is a pile of branches.
