  1. It would seem like most teams would have an analytics department. You point him out to be a number 3 starter while saying he will get top of the second tier of pitching money. So s it other teams will forego the analytics and hope that he can repeat, or would the guessing numbers be wrong. My un analytic take, otherwise known as gut feeling, is there is a great chance he will take the qualifying offer then retire. He was horrible in New York. He has mentioned about working where he wants to be. A situation like New York is not what he wants to repeat. Signing a large contract somewhere raises expectations and I don’t think Gray does well in that situation The part of sports where brain and personality affects performance unfortunately does not have metrics.
  2. Josh Bell returned them a 20 year old prospect that was once highly ranked.. The signing was not all that bad.
  3. 50K is all a team pays when they return a player. I lost track of all of the players the Twins picked up where it was a fixer upper \Sabato is a fixer upper. Decrease the strikeout rate should mean an increase in contact which in turn would lead to an increase in OPS.
  4. 50 K bet to see if you can fix a problem with strikeouts well enough by the end of spring training to keep him. Reward is what? 30-40 HR potential. One team will take that bet for 50 k.
  5. Castro is not a great CF They will need a backup plan One of Farmer, Miranda or Castro will not be back they are probably done with Moran after all the failures. Sands also Varland has options, they will use him as SP 6 in Saint Paul so they will need another starter.
  6. So channel 45 would spend the money operating the television station, pre emptying their paid for programming to broadcast twins games for no revenue, I do not see a universe where that happens. 2 minutes between innings makes for just over 5100 in game commercials. The going rate for advertising for a show that draws 200000 viewers isn’t that great
  7. 17 games 90+ innings, 17 week season. Math would not say Canterino was overworked in college
  8. The assumption is they are not planning on much because Bally is uncertain of going on, anything they start up is going to have expense. There are no other RSNs in this area
  9. Numbers divided by 30 shrink quickly. You also didn’t include league offices takes a cut of that.
  10. It shouldn’t be that hard to figure out how much the payroll could go down. Statistica placed the 2022 revenue at 267 million. Payroll was 135 million about 50% of revenue Forbes has placed revenue per fan at $50 per fan. Easy for them to compute when sales tax records are public. The attendance was up by almost 200,00 plus 4 playoff games. That should push revenue up $10 million. But there is revenue sharing on the gate. Drops it in half. The contract was for 50 million. Half goes into the mlb pool of which the Twins get 1/30 back no contract means a loss of 26 million. Net change 21 million down,, Payroll goes down 11 million because the Pohlads rounded up. No Joey Gallo replacement
  11. Even though it does not work maybe if your headline was in 24 point type and the byline said The Joker
  12. Well, if the byline was Randball Stu you would have understood
  13. Recent history would say they will not help. Ray had TJ surgery last May. Freeland has a back of rotation ERA, only a miracle will make it better than average. You can have an opinion that it can be improved to helpful but there isn’t anything to back that drastic of improvement. Sale has been injured most of the last 3 years. A 4.3 ERA in 20 starts is not going to be helpful it neither eats innings nor leads to victories. Long ago Sale was great. Injuries have taken their toll
  14. No because they no longer have a Mookie Betts to trade with him
  15. 70 LHP started last year and these are the three options Sale. A pitcher that has been injured the last three years. Due 27 million dollars. Due for another 20 million if a couple of sportswriters with votes decide he is Cy Young worthy Robbie Ray. Had 2 great seasons, one in a contract year, the others a long time before that one. Due 23 million. May opt out of contract, otherwise 2 more years and 50 million Kyle Freeland. Last 3 years about a 4.75 ERA. Vesting option if Baldelli lists him pitch 170 innings. When healthy he has done that. Analytics are not going to shave an earned run off his ERA 70 LHP,, those are the options. Option of no LHP looks a lot better.
  16. Is it called the hot stove league because if the team actually did a fan suggested trade somebody would get badly burned?
  17. With the fine showing in the AFL will Sabayo be the new Duensing for this winter’s TD hot stove league
  18. I don’t think given the entirety of his career, age 35, that offers for Maeda as anything more than a back of rotation starter will be there. 21 million is a good number for him, for a 2 year contract.
  19. Prielip is the exact same pitcher now as he was a year ago. One year older. One ranking or the other then is horribly inaccurate. On the other hand from a high ceiling aspect, the draft did add 4 shiny new highly rateable prospects to like. That is, until you don’t. Salas should have been viewed as a high ceiling lottery ticket. His being ranked that high at the beginning of the year was yet again another rating mistake.
  20. Damn autospell, don’t know why it keeps doing that on him. Graver played less than half seasons, with Texas and very little as catcher. When healthy, you bet. The Twins end up using the dl far to often to want to add more players that will go there
