    Since a trade of Ryan would mean that either you don’t see him having a future or you-do not see this team as constructed having a future. Going with the latter the Twins trade Pablo Lopez, ,Sonny Gray, Ryan, and Julian to St Louis for Hence, their last 3 first round draft picks, as well as the rest of their top 10 picks from this year. The Twins would have included the other Lopez and Pagan to bolster the Cardinal bullpen but St. Louis wanted half their draft class back

    He may have led the position player for most of the season. He may finish in the top 5 of position players at the end of the season. It does not change probable regression. It does not change that at a less than 2 war season he would be viewed as a useful player but not an essential. This is his ceiling.

    Tyler Mahle, Sonny Gray, Joe Ryan, Kent Maeda, Chis Paddackr, Pablo Lopez all were traded for, not developed by the Twins. Ober is their only success story. They have a quite a few failed starters in the bullpen

    Leader in war changes day to day. Today he is in 3 place. End of the season he could be lower, he could be higher. At this point he is also having a career year. Is this the real Willi? Will he regress to his mean or is this the real Willi unlocked from the terrible team in a terrible city?

    Sonny did not handle being a Yankee. The assumption of a $50 million contract might not be a valid one given age and experience. Accepting a QO would be a more likely outcome for the ambivalent player..

    Winning and losing trades is all how you want to look at it. Would have keeping Berrios prevented the Twins from drafting Lee because they may have finished higher in the standings? Would have Berrios been enough to get them into the playoffs last year and thus miss out on the high pick they got. 5 years from now Lee and whoever they get this year could be leading the parades downtown. The other side of the s debate. Do they make the other trades for pitchers they did and those Reds prospects currently prospering would be doing the same as a Twin. Maybe they don’t trad Rogers and thus do not get Paga and Rooker would be an all star Twin. The events set in motion because of a trade can make it a little more difficult to assess a trade. At this point the best guess would be no team won the trade. Neither team has won anything.

    Longevity has a way of skewing stats Kepler has been a steady outfielder. One very good year, a lot of average outfielder years. Play long enough you get to move up the stat list DRS loves him. It is probably the defense that has made him. WRC sits at 99. League average more or less

    High ERA, high WHIP. These players might be serviceable for a game, but thos numbers are not encouraging

    I think after 6 minor league seasons they can be free agents if not on the roster.

    They traded a high ceiling player that they were not getting better for a player they probably thought they could make better. They traded 3 CF and got one player who worked out. That is how it goes.

    Miranda had a shoulder soreness enough to keep him out of the WBC. It may have messed up his swing. It also may be that the opposition figured out what not to throw to him. The power is down, the BABIP is down. He might not be seeing any of the pitches he can crush

    If you look over their career states each player they each have provided the same amount of runs per plate appearances. The most useless stat in baseball is the small sample size to make a point.

    Kelly was 35. Gardenhire was 44. Each was successful when they had the players. Neither was very successful when they did not

    As a team as of Sunday morning the Twins have the sixth best WRC at 1b. Polonco’s health, Miranda and Correa having cold springs contributes more to the problems on offense. Solan o hasn’t seemed to add much, either

    For major league debut starting pitching I do believe Headrick is the only starter to not have pitched in the majors. If someone bypasses him for a debut as a starter it would be someone had a meteoric rise or somebody is now a relief pitcher or injured.

    I don’t think there will be a true closer. Baldelli will use the best relievers on the heart of the order rather than by what inning it is. As a 3 run lead gets the last pitcher a save there might be quite a few pitchers with saves. Sands as a long reliever could lead the team in saves.

    Joe Ryan should then fit as a young starter. When the season is done, if Ober, SWR and Varland are options 6,7,and 8 combined they will likely have more starts than Maeda or Gray. The gamble the FO took is on winning. If the team wins resigning Lopez and Mahle will not be a problem. A pennant winning team should draw well enough to cover their salaries unless they get next to nothing from the cable tv deals blowing up. I don’t think anyone saw that coming this soon. Gray’s contract should not be onerous, either given his age and history. We shall see how the year goes

    In a binary world 26,26, and 27 are not old. Therefore they are young. First 2 likely reinforcements are 26 and 24.

    Positive spring training numbers are good, but really indicative of nothing. It is not like teams run out even half a roster for the whole game. Derek Rodriguez hasn’t allowed an earned run. Nobody is saying he needs to be on the roster.
