  1. In theory they should make more money. The reality from sales tax receipts is that the fan base. Does not spend money at the park. That has been a consistent pattern of the fan base.
  2. One of the Pohlads was involve with media. They took the easy way out by signing with a network. They may well have to do it themselves.
  3. The Mets are a gamble.for Cohen. If he can make the Mets as relevant as the Yankees there is a lot of money to be made in the New York market. Not so much with the Twins Cohen tried with the big splash. He made one. Unfortunately for him it was a bellyflop. It looks like the people inside convinced him that they nee the prospects first, then the splash. Ed Visteurs wrote a book called no shortcuts to the top. It was about getting to the top of the mountain. Ed was right.
  4. The return on the money spent is always going to be the fan spending on the team.. It is an aggregate of the team, not the individual player
  5. “Investing” did not help the Yankees, Padres, Mets nor Boston. There is no “investment” that pays off consistently. Strings of World Series championships are non existent. The what about consistently making the playoffs can be answered with asking people to remember all the complaints of the streak. The team invested in Mauer and Morneau,, the pages here would seem to indicate it really didn’t get them anywhere. The team invested in Polanco, Kepler, and Buxton. If the team magically got a dollar for every trade Kepler or Polanco comment here the team would not need a television contract. The fans are fickle. In a sport where failing 2/3 of the time while attempting to hit the ball is considered exceptional the fans have no tolerance for being just merely average at what you do. Gallo in this past season, hisOPS +, WRC+ were both as league average, Gallo will forever be vilified as a horrible signing because of bad hitting. So why doesn't the Pohlads “invest” in the team? They are investors. Give them credit for at least understanding investing. They invest when there is a chance for a return. They invested in a number of players over the last few years. Being in first place most of the season did not bring up attendance to the final years in the metrodome. There was a chance, the fans spoke
  6. The notification for this wiped out what I was typing..
  7. It seems like every year there is the same conversation about spending.
  8. Chase Petty says hello to all the good folks. By the time anyone figures out if the Twins last the trade it really will not matter anymore
  9. They need a replacement for Gray and Taylor, they need a late inning reliever. They need a spot fr the minor league with an invite to spring training reliever, most people would be ery happy if that was filled by Woodruff as he would go to the 60 day list the minute it was available If they had intentions of DFAing anyone they would have already done it. Hoping for bounce back player is not something that is going to not going to help this team unless they clear out (sell low) their own current players that are bounce back or developing players. That there are far too many of.
  10. There are 2 40 man spots open. One would hope that there would be a better use than this list.
  11. Why a would a player not sign with a big market team is because living in a big market is not their idea of living. There have been numerous players whose performance went down in New York.
  12. Patience at the plate I think would be difficult when one has had success with swing. If the swing is not an ideal swing it will probably take a lack of success to get him to change.
  13. Renaldo Ghirardelli, signed off the San Marino National team. The report is that he has a sweet swing
  14. Prospect lists are like long range weather forecasts
  15. It is also laughable to call Sonny Gray expensive at 13 million for his production
  16. Severino could be a cheaper Gallo in terms of hitting. People here just raved about his hitting this year. Severino thought would not be Gallo’s glove. No Severino will not be a cheaper Gallo
  17. Debut versus regular player. There is a difference. To have 11 players over 3 years is not an unreasonable hope. They might not all make it for some reason, like an inability to hit a major league off speed pitch.. There may be some who lose time to injury.
  18. There always are going to be 1 year filler players. At least this year there were no washed up over the hill infielder playing in the outfield. As far as fans with expectations, the club may acknowledge them but also remember all the fan rhetoric over Mauer’s last years, Buxton’s injuries,. The fans are fickle.
  19. Wish that were true that every first round draft choice was good enough to play in the majors. . https://www.baseball-reference.com/draft/?draft_round=1&year_ID=2014&draft_type=junreg&query_type=year_round That is the firstt round from 10 years ago. Only /4 of them have accumulated 5 bwar 65% did not make it to even 1 bwar accumulated.
  20. Kepler, 1 year rental. I suppose that has some value except it requires a team thinking they can contend and needs an outfielder. A couple players only cost money and not a prospect. Trade possibilities go down 2 numbers not mentioned on Polanco 105 and 80. The team would also need a backup plan for half the season. They are tradable, but it would require a decent prospect to get a slightly better than decent prospect.
  21. A bean counter doesn’t understand sales pitches?
  22. It would seem like most teams would have an analytics department. You point him out to be a number 3 starter while saying he will get top of the second tier of pitching money. So s it other teams will forego the analytics and hope that he can repeat, or would the guessing numbers be wrong. My un analytic take, otherwise known as gut feeling, is there is a great chance he will take the qualifying offer then retire. He was horrible in New York. He has mentioned about working where he wants to be. A situation like New York is not what he wants to repeat. Signing a large contract somewhere raises expectations and I don’t think Gray does well in that situation The part of sports where brain and personality affects performance unfortunately does not have metrics.
  23. Josh Bell returned them a 20 year old prospect that was once highly ranked.. The signing was not all that bad.
