  1. Mays, McCovey, Marichal, Perry. 1962-1971. Pretty good core to base an extended run upon. We will struggle to find a core this good.
  2. Ditto. Also "sous vide". I learned a lot of "haute cuisine" (another new bit of vocabulary) today!
  3. The only general who wouldn't have said something a bit earthier than that.
  4. It's hard to build up value when your only distinguishing skill is one PA every few games or so. Pushing these guys into other roles than that almost always cost the team more than it benefited.
  5. He'll be a free agent, so do we care about projections beyond 2022? The short remaining contract should also limit the "haul" to one good prospect.
  6. Wait, you are applying logic, to a supposition for which there is no evidence anyway?
  7. Looks like you trade for Robertson but then decline to put him on your roster. More seriously, your trades bring us 5 arms, giving up only 2? I am seriously skeptical of being able to pry loose pitching with any quantity of hitting, no matter how highly ranked.
  8. You didn't list which hapless players got selected for this one. But seriously, ladies and germs, Steer and Wallner are fine choices this year.
  9. A week ago your pets' heads were falling off. Did that problem clear up?
  10. It's not like we have all-stars at every position on the field. Still, acquiring a bat means a 25-man and 40-man roster decision. Catcher is the one and only position where there is no dilemma: if you trade for someone good (perhaps on an expiring contract such as Contreras) demote Jeffers to AAA, and DFA Godoy. Easy peasy. You have Jeffers for next year, assuming 2022 was just something of a sophomore jinx for him. Every other spot, well, it needs to be a star caliber player, not some 29-year old utility guy having a career year so far. Bell is the only one I've had any interest in, but with Sano coming back soon, then that's two roster moves instead of one.
  11. In all honesty I stopped reading when I saw Larkin listed as a core four.
  12. At age 38, he's just the veteran presence this team needs!
  13. Remember when we were assured that the enhanced revenue stream Target Field would provide would allow the team to sign and keep their home-grown players?
  14. Difference in results yes. I'm curious to see how this reflects in the color chart.
  15. I'd be curious to see these charts broken out by lefty-righty batter matchups. Thielbar for instance I'd expect to have a massive split. Also, since these are percentages, understanding might be aided by having the number of pitches thrown be provided in the table for reference - small sample size for some of these arms seems a pitfall.
  16. In those most recent 34 games he has 4 homers, which is a very nice rate if sustained over a full season. Since a lot of his OPS in that period is built on those 4 long flies, plus a BABIP that is little high relative to league average, I remain a bit on the skeptical side going forward, but continue to be impressed with what he's accomplished this year. My estimate on watching him in a game at AAA in 2019 was way short of what his ceiling has turned out to be.
  17. Gilbert makes a lot of sense, just from a glance at his numbers at Tennessee this year and that they played him in CF. Horton seems like a late first-round pick at best, again just from college numbers assuming he's got a big arm that hasn't quite put it all together yet. Maybe he falls to the Twins in the second round. What's the argument for him?
  18. Lopez (mentioned in a comment, not the article) worries me, unless for some strange reason he could be acquired cheaply. Until last year he was a mediocrity, even in relief. He's been elite for less than a year, and I have visions of him turning back into a pumpkin - apart from the pumpkin-turning the Twins inflicted on him this past week. / Update: he gave up a run yesterday against Texas too.
  19. Not having a particular outstanding tool to tout reminds me of the argument in favor of Nick Gordon when he was drafted. That pick has been, um, polarizing for the fan base. Doesn't matter what the fans think, of course, and it depends on how happy the FO is with the way Gordon has turned out. I would support drafting Neto if the more electric top choices don't fall to #8, but it's not a pick I'd be super excited about either. But maybe that's the nature of #8 - your odds of a superstar are low compared to the top few, but you do want to make sure to come away with a solid major leaguer.
  20. Concur on the concurrence. I mean, there are a few seconds for the runner to work with, so use them wisely. Maybe first instinct is to take off and/or go partway, but gotta keep an eye on the ball and fielder and be prepared to reverse course and tag. You also have the luxury of a uniformed team representative, standing a few feet away from you in foul territory, who is permitted to also judge and give you some guidance, such as "no no no!" (unless that sounds too much like "go go go"). The pitiable part, for these runners and the respective base coaches, is that their eye is apparently not as adept at tracking the ball (and Buxton's progress toward it) as Buxton himself.
  21. Joe Kelly, class act. I didn't see the game, live - any idea what that little hissy fit was about?
  22. My son Stashbury was at the game in Louisville tonight. From the photo he sent, looks like a nice green ballpark.
