I've advocating this since ST. Coming back from TJ, his long absence & his age, he should have been put in the BP or as a SP been on a very short leash. Now with the trainer out there, he should be place on the IL & try to overcome all this.

The Twins Need a Middle Reliever
Doctor Gast replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If they are determined to keep Pagan, they should use him only in mop up innings only & see how far he can go. Maran needs more time in AAA. Low leverage middle RPs, you could rotate Stewart, Sands, Winder & maybe Balazovik, see who sticks. Winder IMO we can stretch out back into a long RP/ spot starter and who knows eventually a SP. Even with the rotation & BP we have, we could use long relief IMO at least 2X/ wk. not counting blow outs. SP who gets hurt, fatigued or just a bad day who can't go 5, long relief makes more sense.- 27 replies

Thanks again Jeremy for this list to look at. There's a ton of SSs in this Draft. Of course many won't stick. As I've stated before My priority list is 1st catcher if Kyle Teel stock rises to #5, otherwise my #2 a SP (Dollander or Skenes) then go w/ Carrigg (C), which would cover our round 1 pick & compensation pick, so our 2nd or 3rd round picks, I'd consider the best available preps CFer or SS, that'd stick there.

Twins Minor League Report (4/25): Blowouts and Bombs
Doctor Gast replied to Steve Lein's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Thanks Steve for the article & appreciate the box scores, a wonderful day for the Twins organization all away around! Happy for Helman and Festa for their accomplishments. And the clutch hitting of Ft. Myers to pull out a victory.- 12 replies

A very fun game & fun article, thanks Steve. When Polanco is played not hurt he is great. Once settled in he hits clutch hit after clutch hit which has been rare lately. He did again last night with the 1st go ahead rbi. Along with his fantastic fielding. People like to look at the time when he's playing hurt & say that he's not good, that's not on him. Buxton finally joined Polanco's party. Ryan was great, also leading the league in wins. Gray with ERA and Lopez is 4th in SO. Pretty awesome.

It's encouraging but like you said we'll have see what he can do in low leverage for a while.
-
We can argue about who's the core players are. But it'll take everyone to produce to win the ALC. The offense will turn around. Kepler is starting to, sooner or later Correa & Buxton will, Polanco is back & is winning games for us. Kiriloff will be back soon, before too long Lewis will be back, with Julien & Lee not far in the minors. Will the rotation sustain their torrid start? The answer to that is yes if the BP can hold up. Best answer to the BP is long relief.

Gray pitched with a vengeance. Great to see we needed that. It's tough to get things going, it takes clutch hitting. Polanco has that clutch mentality to start the ball rolling. I'm sure Gallo felt great to tack on a HR to anger the NYY fanbase, hope he does more damage to the Yanks especially when it counts. They need to keep Moran in lower leverage until has more experience under his belt.

Polanco injury & playing hurt really hurt his #s that you quoted in '22, at a time he'd really take off. Now that he's healthy watch out. Beside having good #s he's a good clutch hitter. He gets a hit when you need it, not only racking up HRs & RBIs when you don't & SO when you do. He's a steadying influence. I'm glad he's back. Go get 'em Jorge! Hurray for Jorge!

Kyle Teel & Cole Carrigg has been high on my wish list. I believe both will be very good 2-way catchers. Teel bats (LH) & Carrigg (S) which could come in very handy & would raise to MLB fairly quick. Teels has been rising very quickly which could reach # 5 selected and Carrigg could be had in the compensation or 2nd round. IMO the new generation catchers will be more athletic & they fit that mold. I'm not crazy about Prep catching draftees but I'd like to add Zion Rose IMG Academy to your list. I absolutely love his great quick & powerful swing. I guess you were the one Jeremy who got me interested.

The Twins Bullpen is Missing a Starter
Doctor Gast replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
We have to look at what makes us better as a team. IMO Maeda doesn't have the stamina to pitch 5+ innings every 5 or so days, I believe Ober has a better chance to do so. So Maeda in the BP in long relief along with spot starts makes more sense because he's the best man in that role & with Maeda in long relief will force Baldelli to actually implement the long relief as he promised.- 32 replies

Tough Decisions Are On Deck for the Twins
Doctor Gast replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I believe the talk about delaying Kiriloff's could be a little linked somewhat to this situation (although it shouldn't be). If AK is ready (which he seems to be now) that takes priority. Larnach has an option & he's been slumping so I think he has to be the one. Gordon wasn't MLB material as an INFer before he came up. When he was converted to OFer he started to take off. Now that he's been used primarily as an INFer again his #s have tanked. I still like to keep Gordon around as a LH bat CF especially because IMO Kepler, Gallo & maybe Taylor are gone next season. IMO Gordon could turn it around if he's focused in the OF, but with Gallo, Kepler and Larnach with Wallner in the wings, he won't get the opportunity. As of right now we can't get anyone for either Kepler or Gordon in trade. They may want to keep Lewis in AAA as long as possible also but IMO he'll tear up there & it'll be hard to keep him there coming June. That'll make this decision more difficult down the road if there isn't any serious injuries. -
Will the Real Jose Miranda Please Stand Up
Doctor Gast replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think also that although 3B is his more natural position yet MLB level 3B is quite different. Last year he was having some difficulty at 3B and this year I immagine most of his attention is focused there. Once he feels more comfortable there & adjusting to the pitching, I believe his hitting will turn around. -
Series Preview: Those #@$% Yankees Again
Doctor Gast replied to Steven Trefz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
We should have a very good chance because of the cold weather NYY won't need any rosin. It seems like the clutch hitting Polanco is back, hopefully the rest of the bats will wake up besides Taylor's. Pitching should be in our favor and hopely our fans will be in the game, So Go Twins!- 6 replies

Reviewing the Josh Donaldson Trade
Doctor Gast replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If you look at the trade face value, IMO we lost the trade. We seriously weakened our catching & SS positions by trading away IKF, Garver & Rortvedt. After they traded away IKF they sought after Story. Luckily that didn't happen and Correa fell into our laps but that's a side issue that granted most likely would not have happened w/o trading away Donaldson. If Correa hadn't fell into our laps indepently, we would have been in a very very sorry situation.- 44 replies

Week in Review: Cold Spell
Doctor Gast replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Twins need to heat things up against the Yanks. Polanco is a good start but we need everyone. In this cold I don't think the Yanks will need much resin. Revenge time.- 15 replies

Thanks Ted for a great report & for leaving the boxscores. Great day for the organization, they all played good games. Only a couple of heart breakers but they played hard. I'm getting excited about Kiriloff, he should make an impact soon when he comes up. Miller was in the tough Florida league & was over shadowed by E Rod last season but his bat is shining, along with his glove this season, his value will rise. Helman is ready to leave A ball.

Polanco is back! Like what was said he looked really good from the right side which surprised me. Nice to see Ober back up here where he belongs, congrats on a good game. Taylor is also a nice surprise, keep it up. Step up your game the rest of you, for the Yanks. Go Twins!

This is a terrible start from a terrible series at BOS. The league has been beating up on these guys & we look pathetic. Have to admit that Mahle was good & was good to have Polanco back but the loss spoiled that. Ober was left back in AAA again must be very frustrating. I'm all in for giving SWR a break, but Ober has the experience. I believe we can be more competitive with Ober.

Where is the Twins Promised Aggressiveness?
Doctor Gast replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You can't teach an old dog new tricks. Julien has stolen some bases in the minors but he hasn't been sent in the MLB. I agree with the assessment here with Buxton, Polanco & Correa not worth the risk. Taylor can steal more, Wallner is fast but he doesn't have the instinct. We have some young ones coming besides Julien with Lewis, Martin & Lee that can steal a base to name a few. I heard that 70% was the break-off point of effeciency to steal a base. Hope in the near future the coaches have the guts to send the runners when the conditions is right. Maybe they use their analytics to find out which pitchers & catchers to run on & exploit it. Because stolen bases can goof up the pitchers & provoke mistakes.- 26 replies
