  1. Just like getting rid of a manager to reset the team, sometimes you need to reset the roster to change the attitude on the team. I will be disappointed if not some turnover on the team. Time to move on from Simmons, Cave, Refsnyder, Garlick, Astudillo, and possible trades for Sano, Donaldson, Kepler, maybe even Arraez and Garver if return is good.
  2. When you finish last in your division, I would say all options are on the table to try to improve including a rebuild. I agree with one of the other responses that Twins have poor record of attracting top pitching FAs. Top FA pitchers want the money but also want to win-last place team may not look that attractive. Trades may be a more realistic option, but very hard to predict. Did anyone see the Maeda trade coming a couple of years ago? There are plenty of difficult decisions for Twins this offseason.
  3. Thanks Levi, good post. Twins have plenty of decisions to make with pitching this year. In general, I am in favor of some turnover in Twins pitching staff. Free agents, trades, or promoting from within whatever it takes. Hoping to see 4-5 new pitchers with Twins next year.
  4. Cano does not need to be protected from rule 5 draft so almost certain he will remain at AAA and not on 40 man to start season- hope he gets an opportunity with Twins next year at some point. Moran not mentioned but hope he is on opening day Twins roster. Maybe Hamilton makes 40 man but probably starts season at AAA. Mason likely left off 40 man but remains at AAA.
  5. Thanks Andrew, great information. Odds decrease for players to make MLB after 10th round but plenty of success stories in past. I am most excited about Lavalle, Fester, and Perez. Will see how they do next year, playing a full season.
  6. You definitely picked some low hanging fruit in your choices. One comment about last year, many are down on FO for not protecting Baddoo, but Ober was a late add and definitely was a great add by FO. There are a few more prospects on the fence this year whether to protect or not, hopefully FO makes the correct moves.
  7. Thanks, Seth. Really enjoyed these last year. Jose has a bright future, hope he continues to develop and is with the Twins early next year.
  8. I am in trade Donaldson camp. To me, it's a salary dump, don't expect high return, maybe a few lower rated prospects in positions Twins need some depth in minors. Don't understand apprehension about Miranda, doesn't have anything left to prove at AAA. Use money saved from Donaldson's contract to sign Buxton and help get pitching.
  9. Greinke is 37, no thanks. already showing signs of regression last year. Gray and Pineda with Ryan, Ober, Dobnak with Twins, Winder, Duran, SWR, Sands, Balazovic at AAA waiting for opportunity looks good to me. I agree, Twins will probably need to trade to bring in quality starter and agree little chance top tier FAs end up with Twins. Top choice would be Trade, Gray, Pineda, Ryan, Ober.
  10. Looking for good things from Varland in future. I watched a few of his games on MiLB TV, overpowering at times but seemed too reliant on fastball, difficulty throwing other pitches for strikes when he needed to.
  11. Another thing most of the playoff teams have in common, able to spend money, large payrolls. According to Spotrac, 2021 payrolls, 4/5 top payrolls made playoffs-Mets the exception. 2 more in next 5, and 2 more in 11-15 range. Brewers were 19 and Rays 26. There were 4 teams under 60M, Dodgers were #1 at 267M, next Yankees at 203M. The difference between the highest-Dodgers and second highest-Yankees was more than the total payroll for each of the bottom 4 teams. MLB has to address this inequity, just establishing a minimum payroll will not be enough. Somehow will need to establish more revenue sharing to bring up the lower teams.
  12. Nice article, I like Miranda's potential. Lewis may be a little optimistic for next year. Like pitching prospects as well, was disappointed a couple more did not get MLB opportunity this year. Ryan and Kirilloff are key players, hope they continue to develop.
  13. Will be interesting how Twins handle, I am in the cleaning house camp. Not so much for the starters at MLB but hope Twins move on from a few players that have already had an opportunity as bench players for a couple of years. There is some risk/reward involved, but would rather take risk on someone unproven than someone that has proven to be only a borderline MLB player. I also doubt that Twins will contend next year, making it easier to take chances on unproven players.
  14. Would think regarding pitchers, Twins worried about innings, so did not send top prospects. Not sure on position players.
  15. Nice article Sherry. agree with you on Simmons. It has been a trend with this FO to think an aging player will return to prior performance level- get one more good year. Rotation also agree, need to sign a couple of FAs with one being top of rotation quality. Cruz, I agree with his positive influence on team, but question if he can continue to perform at a high level considering his age.
  16. Does not bother me, Twins definitely know more about Colina and his health than I do. But agree timing of move is strange.
  17. I think you are on the right track. Don't see Twins having much success in FA market, trade is probably best way for them to acquire starting pitching.
  18. I subscribed to MiLB TV for the season, $40. Loved it, lower quality picture at some of the ballparks, but great to see some of the players coming up in the system. My biggest disappointment for Twins system was lack of top pitching prospects-Duran, Balazovic, progressing to MLB due to injuries and injuries to Enlow and Canterino.
  19. Twins lacking elite potential position players at the lower levels. Some players had some good periods but lacked consistency or had injuries. Baseball America listed top 10 position players in each league in minors from low A to AAA, no mention of any Twins player. FO has been emphasizing pitching and results have been encouraging, but would like to see more top level potential in minors for position players.
  20. Great job covering Twins MiLB this year. I was a regular reader.
  21. Yes, Twins lucky Donaldson was not out with injury for extended time this year. Twins could trade him for a bucket of ball and I would not complain. I am an optimist but still can't see Twins contending next year, why take risk with Donaldson-would rather see money invested in new pitching.
  22. In general, 40 man roster split is 18 position players, 22 pitchers but not set in stone. 13 position players on active roster so not a lot of extra spots for others. FYI, Twins, even with all there injuries, only played 23 position players this year, Blankenhorn and Lin 1 game each, and Riddle 4 games. So only 20 that played significant time. 34 different pitchers used by Twins this year. The five extra spots usually include a third catcher, MIF, and OF that is able to play CF, and the 2 best prospects that are rule 5 eligible. I would go with Rortvedt, Palacios, Celestino, Lewis, and Miranda. Would prefer Miranda on opening day roster, but see Twins playing service time game. 13 on active roster-Garver, Jeffers, Sano, Polanco, FA SS, Donaldson, Arraez, Kirilloff, Kepler, Buxton, Larnach, Gordon, Refsynder.
  23. I am a big Mike fan. It is a little worrisome all the minor injuries this year and I am like worried about how much weight he is carrying. But would be in favor of signing him to a two year contract with the second year being a team option.
  24. Twins ending season with rotation of Pineda, Ryan, Gant, Jax, and Barnes. Can't say the pitchers on this list are blocked from advancing due to loaded rotation at MLB. Hope some of them get a chance next year.
  25. Of the 17 or so players mentioned in article, hope only 3-4 are with the Twins next year.
