  1. Hard to draw too many conclusion from playing the clown car franchises, but you play the schedule as it's written and wins against bad teams count the same. We all knew the Twins had to come into this stretch and make up ground and they're doing exactly that. Here's hoping some AAAA competition gets our guys into a groove and gets them some confidence back so they're ready for when the page turns to competent competition.
  2. Yeah bummer to see Polo go, but it just makes too much sense to trade him
  3. The Pohlads had finally, finally started to shed the image of cheapskates who never spend and now the second there is the slightest adversity, they chuck it all and go back to being miserly bums. Way to destroy all of the goodwill and optimism, not to mention kneecapping a team that was on the rise and will now go back to mediocrity.
  4. Watching the late game Saturday night after the Game 1 loss, the scroll on the bottom of the screen noted that was the Twins' 16th consecutive lose in the divisional round and I realized with horror that there was another losing streak I hadn't even realized and visions of the Twins getting swept out and having to debate if winning the new wild card round really counts were filling my head. Then they went out and did this! Another streak broken! Now we just need to break that pesky divisional round series losing streak and we're in business!
  5. After all these years of having to watch the Twins limp into the playoffs with seemingly half the roster on the shelf and the pitchers being guys who should rightly be in triple A, last night feels like a dream. The starting pitcher dominated? The relievers dominated? The Kid is turning into a superstar in front of our eyes? Are we sure this is the Minnesota Twins? Please no one pinch me, I want to stay in this wonderful dream forever!
  6. Hell yeah, let's do it! I don't care that I should know better, I'm pumped for a Twins postseason run!
  7. The bat flip was cool as hell, but I really like the hops looking into the dugout. It's always fun to me when dudes flip from mean mugging and posing to being little kids who are excited they made a fun baseball play and their friends are all excited.
  8. Kinda, but the Twins also could have simply gone out during the off season and gotten good players to play in their place, players that were just consistently above average so we didn't have to cling to the brief periods where these two are above average. For all Kep has done lately, his season OPS+ is still just 103, and it's pretty easy to find corner outfielders that top that. Same with Pagan -- all sorts of relievers available that haven't already blown a dozen or so big games for the team.
  9. Individual players have ups and downs. In '99 Rivera won the relief pitcher of the year award in a season when he has a 1.89 ERA. That same season he blew three consecutive saves and had a 7.84 ERA in July. Even the best closer of all time has some hiccups. You can't start messing with the guy who is unquestionably your best reliever because he has a few clunkers in a row.
  10. This is 100% Betteridge's law of headlines right here.
  11. This is just wildly overstating the role of baseball manager. How'd hiring Tony La Russa work out for the White Sox? He's a seasoned manager with tons of playoff experience, he surely elevated that talented but underperforming team to new heights, right? I mean, if that's all a team needs to break through to the next level, surely the 2022 White Sox went deep into the postseason, right? Now to take a big drink of water and look up how that went...
  12. Once again Robot Rocco pulls a pitcher who's cruising just because his fancy pants "analytics" say the game is over. What a disgrace -- let them pitch!!!11!!1!
  13. Any ranking that doesn't have Schmit at the top is invalid. I could listen to Max Greenfield incorrectly pronounce words all damn day. Points for directing people to Happy Endings though, all time top 10 sitcom.
  14. But what would you do with Buxton? It's telling that Cutch has spent so much time at DH, given that the Pirates don't exactly have a stacked outfield. Seems to indicate their front office similarly believes he won't hold up if he's playing the field regularly, and one thing the Twins really don't need is another DH that can't be asked to go out in the field regularly.
  15. Yeah, I thought this was supposed to be satire, not just an accurate forecast of what will actually happen
  16. You know, for all people (somewhat fairly) dump on Sano, it's pretty crazy that he hasn't played for this team for a year and half or so and is still ahead of both Polanco and Kepler on the team RBI chart.
  17. An out is an out and it doesn't matter how it happens. Sure, sometimes a K is worse than other outs (dude on 3rd, less than 2 outs), but sometimes it's much better than other outs (a double play is much worse than a strike out). What would have been different about this game if the first 3 ABs ended in groundouts to short instead of strike outs?
  18. He currently has a .906 OPS, good for a 146 OPS+. One of the many reasons batting average is not a good stat to rely on is that it drastically undervalues power relative to contact. If you only get one hit every 5 at bats but that hit goes 500 feet, that's a lot more valuable than 2 singles in those 5 at bats.
  19. Probably should have waited a bit to post this article, because this did not hold up as an argument.
  20. While it sucks that AK is raking in AAA and there's really nowhere to put him on the big league club, after last year's horror show it is pretty nice to be having the exact opposite problem -- too many healthy, good players to fit onto the starting 9. This is a problem I'll take 10 times out of 10!
  21. Back to Back starts of 7 innings. It's almost like having real pitchers instead of Bundy and Archer makes a bigger difference than people crying about analytics.
