    I like Wallner, but if you look at the advanced metrics, he has like 1 or 2 hits on fastballs above 95 mph. The reason he's raking is because there isn't MLB quality pitching in AAA, if he comes up, there's seemingly a pretty good chance he'll be scuffling as bad as he was when he was sent down.

    I saw through this entire ****ing game until the Jeffers at bat when I turned it off in disgust. To say I was confused when I was online later seeing everyone rapturously discussing the game would be a gigantic understatement.

    Even before the injury I feel like it made sense to move Jeffers. They need help elsewhere and the Carratini/Jackson pairing did fine enough in his absence to make this palatable. If they can get some real value out of it now it would be crazy not to.

    Gotta hand it to the bullpen. After the offense failed to score in the 10th I figured it was over. When they failed to score in the 11th, I was absolutely sure it was over. Hell, even when they had a two run lead and I saw a guy I'd never heard of warming up I still wasn't very certain they'd pull it out. Funny for how bad it's been, this bullpen can also just randomly be completely nails.

    I saw someone post this online: Tarik Skubal, Framber Valdez, and Garrett Crochet at Target Field in the last week: 11 innings pitched, 28 hits, 7 walks, 22 earned runs. That's an 18.00 ERA for the three All-Star lefties.

    Shelton is not leaving the starters in longer for some weird ideological notion they need to learn to get through things or whatever, it's because the bullpen is absolute dogshit. The reason Rocco pulled starters earlier is because he could turn to Stewart/Varland/Jax/Duran to slam the door shut. When your options are waiver wire guys either long past their prime or who will never have a prime, you don't really have much choice but to hope the starter eats a lot of innings.

    Can't find the exact piece where I read it several years ago, but there is a statistical argument that Johan's 6-year peak was better than Koufax's. If he'd pitched in a big market, I have no doubt Johan would already be in the Hall.

    "Tom brings a strong business background from running other family enterprises" I keep seeing some version of how Tom has this "strong business background" and it's so funny. You mean the guy who oversaw all of their tanking businesses that are run so poorly they had to offload $500 million in debt onto the Twins? That strong business background?

    I dunno. Having the top of the org leave with clearly no plan for his replacement is pretty much the ideal Pohlad poorly thought out half measure

    Obviously we're not seeing any major signings and we all hate the self-imposed payroll cap, but this actually seems like a clever move in getting somewhat decent return for two DFA guys. Will miss that weird Canadian, though -- couple years back saw him absolutely crush a monster homer for Team Canada at the WBC and joked to my friend we should trade Polanco and hand him the starting job. And then they did! And it worked (until it didn't).

    Yeah man, Twins should definitely model themselves after a notoriously stable and well-run franchise like the Nationals

    Seems like it would be quite possible to sneak Jackson through waivers and see if you can't assign him to AAA and thus have a decent backup stashed away in case anything happens to Jeffers or Caratini. Unless Jeffers is absolutely opposed to an extension or wants some ridiculous number, it doesn't make much sense to sign a guy at basically exactly Jeffer's contract if you were looking to shed him.

    Did the Mets have a higher payroll than any of these teams?

    By wining this one, the Twins made it much more likely they can win Sunday as Philly officially has nothing at all to play for now. And if they manage to pull it out, that means two series wins in a row to end the season. Which means...well, absolutely nothing, but it would be a nice way to close everything out.

    The only thing this demonstrates is that the role of big league hitting coach has incredibly limited impact on how a team performs one way or the other

    This one really hurts. Been a fan my entire life and this is the first actual, genuine star free agent they've ever signed and they chuck him out a few years later in a gross salary dump. The Pohlads cannot sell soon enough.

    Yeah man, a good FO should always be thinking they will have $30 million less for no reason the next year. In fact, they should really just stop signing players, period. Who knows if next year ownership will say they're folding the team? They sure would look stupid if they had players under contract then!

    Do you seriously think when they inked Correa the Pohlds had told them they were cutting $30 million from the roster the following year?

    Yeah totally. That's why I would definitely rather have a guy hitting .190 who hUsTlEs OuT oF ThE BoX than a gold glove shortstop who is also a league average hitter.
