  1. No they definitely haven't improved at this point. There is still time but no star players left imo. I'd like to see a good starter added (not named Rodon) another 7th or 8th inning BP arm and a RH 1B/OF. If the FO wants to make a splash how about a trade for Devers? Say Lee for Devers (with an agreed upon extension. Something like 12x28.5, 11x29.25 or 10x30?). Devers is only 25 and can move to 1b and then DH in the later years. Keep Miranda at 1st with Kirilloff or Arreaz.
  2. Carlos Correa does not a World Series bring. At this point investing in Swanson and/or Rodon seems like a panic move. Spreading the money out over lets say a SP on contracts 3 years or less, a RH bat and a BP arm or two. Raise the floor of the team. Run it back and see where you're at at the deadline. If we're completive keep at it. Anything else blow it up. Don't forget we are in the AL central. It's not going to take 100 wins to take the division.
  3. Did the Twins get moved into the AL East or NL west because they didn't sign Correa? NO? So we're still in the central? Blow the whole thing up because we didn't get the guy we weren't expected to get to begin with? Sound a lot like the Packer fans I have to listen to everyday this season. R-E-L-A-X...Go shovel some snow. Let the dog go play in the snow. EXHALE.
  4. Disappointing but not a huge surprise. Should be interesting to see how/if they pivot. On the plus side, there should be plenty of good seats available next season....cheap...
  5. Vázquez fits what the FO talks about from the catcher position the best imo of all the free agent catchers. 3 for 30 is reasonable and if there was a lot of compitation involved probably necessary to get it done. He provided 2.1 WAR last season. If that continues its a bargain at 10 mil per. There were trades that may have been an even better fit, but the recourses needed for those are much harder to replace. Also, I'd like to point out that as the years have gone on, they have been spending more aggressively. Let's hope that continues.
  6. You throw a nice 12 to 6 curveball on that one.
  7. Although I pretty sure I'm one of the few. I'm stuck in the wait till the deadline on Kepler. The return isn't going to be that much less and it's maybe 50/50 that his value increases as a trade chip by then. If they are determined to trade him 1 vs 1 it doesn't look like there's much to work with. Kepler + $ and maybe our Comp A pick should get a higher quality prospect or a couple MLB regulars without taking on any of the bad contracts they are carrying right now.
  8. Unless something is missing it looks like Milwaukee crushed this trade.
  9. Maybe they could send us Frankie Montas back..
  10. One less catcher available.. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/12/braves-acquire-sean-murphy.html View full rumor
  11. One less catcher available.. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/12/braves-acquire-sean-murphy.html
  12. From what I've read Senga has a lot of reliever risk. So I'm fine with some other team taking on that risk. If there something that is bothering me it's the Mets payroll. 343 mil???...and not done yet...maybe they'll pay Correa 40 mil for 12 years as well...and Ohtani next year for 50 x 12...
  13. Seems highly unlikely that Bogaerts would get a better offer no matter how long Boras holds out,
  14. Seems like a fair trade. I would rather wait till the trade deadline to move Kepler. To many unanswered questions in the OF right now imo.
  15. And here we are in mid-December. He's got a month to go before his clients normally sign...
  16. To answer the topic question. Actually, sign a free agent we have heard of seems like a good place to start.
  17. There are so many unknowns with the guys on the 40-man roster due to injuries last season and youth. I don't see how throwing piles of cash or long-term contracts at anything other than SS would make any sense at all. If by uncomfortable you mean 10 years of Correa at whatever it takes, I agree 100% But if by half measures you mean backup catcher, starting pitching depth, bull pen and maybe a right-handed outfielder. I disagree. 100%
  18. This. Lopez is a good pitcher but I don't think he's that much if at all better then some of the FA pitchers out there.
  19. How many payoff teams were starting players in August that are similar to Cave, Beckam, Contreas or Celestino consistently? Would the Phillies have made it to the series with Cave in left, Contreas in right and Celestino in center? IDC what team it is if you're starting you 50th-60th best prospect/player you're not going too far in the playoffs. To make the playoffs in 2022 the Twins would have needed 10 more wins. WAR 1 win = $8 mil. So, $80 mil to be the last playoff team. How does that make sense? Now IF this group (healthy) can get into the playoffs and by chance win a single series at $130 mil. That says 10 more wins ($80 Mil in payroll) will likely get you to at least the ALCS.
  20. It's probably about the window is just opening or closing when it comes to spending. The Padres are in a have to win in the next season or two rut. Machado can opt out after 2023 Davish and Snell are free agents after 2023 and Soto is a free agent the following season. By 2025 Xander and Tatis may be about all that's left of the team they will have this year. Most of our position players, bull pen and maybe 1/2 the people who start games this year will likely still be on the team at the start of 2025. Got a little off topic there... Can we spend like the Padres are. Of course. Did we just go to the league championship game? Not even close. Until we actually make some noise in the playoffs I wouldn't expect to many 11 year contracts just to spend like the Padres.
  21. From what I've read Vazquez fits what I believe the Twins are looking for better then probably all the other free agent catchers. I hope they get him signed. There are just as good or maybe better catchers out on the trade market, but the player/prospect cost would be steep. Spend the money Twins.
  22. Well I'm glad that is finally over. No more excuses for why CC hasn't signed with somebody.
  23. Trea to Phillies $300 mil over 11. I don't think a deadline helps. Just make your best offers to the remaining three..
  24. The DeGrom deal is a pretty big gamble by the Rangers. If it goes south, they can afford it but IDK if they can have too many bad contracts and win it that division.
  25. I don't think we have the prospects to get him. Seatle has an opening in left field and the Padres have been interested in acquiring him for years. I may take a three-team trade to meet the Pirates ask for him.
