  1. Until the FO and Rocco (they are a package deal) start using analytics as a guide instead of a one way street thru 9 innings of baseball. I don't see anyone changing their opinion of them. Just an example: 8 of the top 9 teams in innings pitched by starters are in the playoffs. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say those 8 teams use analytics as well.
  2. Resign. Extend 1-3 years if you can. He holds down the stop until Lee is ready.
  3. I agree with this 100% Everything isn't rainbows and unicorns in Twins land but jeez.. At least we're not White Sox fans! Picked to run away with the division, world series contender..,.to...ouch
  4. If I'm looking for something to blame this season on it has to be #1. Their lack of or unwillingness to spend on SP and BP may have caused trades that didn't need to happen and could have cost multiple game in BP implosions. Injuries played their part but if we had invested in 1-2 SP and 1-2 BP arms would we have needed to trade for Paddack, Pagan, Mahle, Fulmer and Lopez? Hindsight in 20/20...
  5. Great season by the Wind Surge. Just came up a couple wins short. Good to see Balazovic have a decent outing to close out his season. Shuffield has played well (.855 OPS) for a fill in. Not everything went well in the bigs but plenty of players to be excited about on the farm. Headricks, SWR, Julien, Lee, Varland, Laweryson, Sisk and even Martin. (after returning from IL) Those are just the ones I can think of in AA and AAA. Plus some of the guys we traded at mid season. We may not have a top 5 farm system but seems to me there's plenty of players on the cusp of contributing to the Twins when called on.
  6. The Saint's would have a lot better record if the Twins would stop hurting all the Saints players..
  7. Same here. I'm starting to think this part of the Berrios trade may work out for the Twins. Just noticed that today is his bday. Happy birthday SWR
  8. I can live with the risk reward outcomes on the Twins trades this season and that's because most aren't truly complete until the end of next season. In Paddacks case 2 more seasons. The Lopez trade is probably the one I like the least. That was a lot to give up for a guy with 4 months of success at his position. As for the prospect costs other then Povich and Hajjar what did we part with that we don't already have a lot of? How many 2nd basemen, 3rd basemen and utility players can we fit on our 40 man roster? Put one of them in the OF? Anyone remember Sano in the OF? The Rogers trade: If we gave up such great assets for such a terrible return. Why are none of those players still on the Padres roster? If next season is a dumpster fire we'll recoup some of our prospect losses Aug 1st. ***Patiently waits for my paycheck from the Twins PR department***
  9. The years of control they acquired with almost ever person they traded for is why I think that. Correa was a unique situation due to the lock out imo. Injured prospects: I find it hard to blame anyone for injuries. If the FO is out there taking out knees with a baseball bat ok sure. But hamstrings, lat strains, broken fingers whatever.. Frustrating but isn't the players job to get their hands out of the way of that inside pitch that breaks their finger? Or properly warm up and stretch out. Depleted Farm system: If the 1st half next season goes like the 2nd half this season all the players they depleted the farm system for should help replenish the farm. Buxton: Plan for 60 games hope for 100..Whatelse can you do? Busted pitching pipeline: Duran, Jax, Ober, Winder, Varland and to some degree Ryan may argue with you on that. No none are an Ace today. Yes, not signing impact free agent pitching and the lack of quality bull pen signings drives me nuts...If it's gospel that two times through the order or 80-100 pitches is it...It would make sense to invest in the BP or impact starters.
  10. I agree. Sisk (BP) would be another I'd like to see against major league hitters.
  11. Crickets pre lock out. Whirlwind post lock out. Kinda hard to believe they planned it that way. So to answer the title question. No probably not. We've matched our win total from last season with 2 weeks to go so I suppose there's that. At the start of the season if I told you Wallner, Cave and Celestino were the starting OF in the last game. I don't believe anyone would have said that's an 80-82 win team. So I wouldn't say the reload was unsuccessful, just not what I'd hoped for. I too think this season was more hoping to win the division in 2022 and planning to win it in 2023.
  12. What it it with this "time to move on" thing? These guys are like stocks or CD's..Not scratch off tickets..If Juan Soto had the same injuries his 1st two season would we all be...Ok who next??...Not everybody can be Cal Ripken. Relax he's going too be around for awhile. His ability to adjust and his health will determine whether he's a DH, 4th outfielder or and All star.
  13. Hard to argue about this season being done. I'd say the fat lady has one foot on the stage.. The change in shifts will help a few Twins. Pitch clock. IDK. Base size will probably hurt the team because of our catching situation and our lack of elite speed that they will take the chance of injury(Buxton) to steal bases... I think this team is much better positioned to complete next year then they were this year due to the trades they made trying to get this team into the post season this year. Now if the FO would actually sign a #1 pitcher (Rodon), a couple of really good BP arms (Fulmer, Rogers) and a slugger who can hit his weight (JD Martinez, Bell)
  14. I don't disagree but there's room for Carlos Rodon or someone like that
  15. I'm going to guess 82-80 record. The 1st couple months really raised my hopes for the season and the last couple have been a tough pill to swallow. On the bright side of things look at where the team is now compared to the same time last season. For example last offseason we needed 3-4 starters just to have a 5 man rotation. After this season we need 1?
  16. THUD...Well At least I get to torment the Packer fans at work tomorrow...Here in NE Wisconsin...
  17. I'm pretty certain I'm in the minority about this. I look at it as calculated risks that didn't pay off...It's been a tough season with an excessive amount of injuries and one that was looking so good 2 months ago now is Meh. If we're going to blame the FO for taking risks in trades are we going to throw them under the bus for extending Buxton? Or signing Correa who's seen plenty of time on the IL until last season. Would we have been in 1st place most on the 1st half with Rogers and without Gray, Paddack and Pagan? We traded 2nd and 3rd basemen (DH) and a pitcher for Mahle. Would that had gotten us Montas? I don't think it's even close to what the Yankees gave up for Montas. Plus he had just as serious and injury risk. Maeda - I don't feel belongs on this list. Dyson - hard to blame the FO for the things he was hiding.
  18. A 15th round pick (#449) starting in AAA. I'd call that manufacturing a top (Twins) pitching prospect. I noticed some saying he to old to be considered. Anyone who went to college and was drafted in the 2019 class is likely to old. He went from A ball to the cusp of MLB in two seasons. Sounds like a Top (Twins) pitching prospect to me no matter what age they are.
  19. Prospect development isn't linear. Disappointing seasons sure. Royce Lewis's 2019 season looks similar to Martin's 2022. Duran was constantly hurt in milb like Canterino. Balazovic IDK...I don't think it's time to punt on any of them.
  20. He is what we've seen them (the FO) doing the last couple of seasons..Outside of an unexpected increase in pay he'll be back and really should be. Is he Correa NO..is he Celestino. NO. A quality player at a reasonable cost. He'll be back. I'll be happy to see him on the roster
  21. Carlos Aguiar is having himself a nice season in Fort Meyers. Him, Emmanuel Rodriguez (injured and done for the season) and Misael Urbina all manning the OF in Fort Meyers with .850 OPS or higher. Some of the international signings are starting to show up. Nowlin had a heck of a debut! Hoping Brooks Lee keeps it rolling. I don't get the pitcher usage. Is Enlow a BP arm now?
  22. I'm not overly concerned about the overall rankings. The back half of these individual rankings are kinda a crap shoot and someone ranked 75 on one could be 125 on another. The top 10 I'm more focused on as those are expected to be our difference makers. If I look at MLBs top 10 for the Twins I feel really good about our system. A couple other things I'd like to mention is the Twins 2020 draft has, other then Raya, been a dud and the 2021 draft most of the 1st 5 rounds have been traded for current Twins players. Also look at Baseball reference for the average team age. The Twins have the 5th youngest roster at 26.9 years old in MLB. The only teams younger and in the hunt for the playoff spot are the Guardians (when's the last time they signed a veteran player?) and the Blue Jays. Close to 1/2 of our 40 man has less then 2 years of XP in MLB and most are our prospects. No need to be concerned. I'm more concerned about why mlb network has to only show games with NY or California as part of the teams description...I live in Wisconsin so Bally only seems to have Brewers or White Sox...
  23. Mark Moriarty and Richard Salazar (Cedar Rapids pitching coaches) seem to have a magic touch. The DSL hitters are putting up some impressive numbers.
