    I think we can argue about the so-called "core" players, but as I look at the Twins this year, I think for the first time in many many years, they certainly DO have the players that can take them to another World Series. Bullpen is better, starters are better, and if the hitting finally comes around on a consistent basis, we will be a force to be reckoned with. Or so I keep hoping ...

    Thanks for this review. I was on the road all week and didn't have time to check the site as usual. Cossetti is a new name for me, but nice to see that he had a productive week.

    And let's hope that Sonny stays healthy and doesn't go on the IL at any point this year!

    As others have said, it looks like the Lopez we expected has finally materialized. This may end of being those win-win types of trades for both teams. I think the Orioles will be happy with Povich, and Cano just got his first save of the year for them, and hasn't allowed an earned run yet so far this season.

    Yeah, that was sad that the Twins called Maggi up last year ... and he never even got into a single game. Hopefully, the Pirates will use him at least once, but right now that team is playing very well.

    Rooker is now up to 6 homers, with 2 more yesterday!

    After a couple of rough starts Berrios finally found the magic and was the starting pitcher who finally stopped Tampa Bay's incredible win streak!

    Not good to hear. Let's hope this "evaluation" is only a normal one and that he's cleared to pitch again ASAP.

    Good point, The Yankees certainly don't seem to have that aura of invincibility that they have had in the past --- especially against the Twins. Taking the first two games of this series was an amazing feeling! Hopefully, it gives the Twins the confidence and knowledge that they CAN take on the Yankees and actually win a series. Just not this week.

    Rooker keeps doing it; another homer yesterday, but once again Oakland lost!

    All this speculation is better than any board game. I love it! It's always fun to guess the next moves that might be made. Nothing I can add except I have no idea what will happen when some of these guys come off the IL.

    I agree on the catching part of the equation. That "little" extra added quality provided by the catcher can end up being a huge factor in the success of the pitcher.

    I'm a bit confused --- maybe even shocked --- about this sudden Gallo "rehab" too. Seems like he only had this injury a few days ago, and now he's back in the field again, albeit with St. Paul. Not upsetting, just sort of odd. But as you noted, it's a bonus to have Julien called up to show his stuff.

    Yeah, I don't see any trade happening at this point. Unless Kepler comes back healthy and starts putting up better offensive numbers on a regular basis, there will be almost zero demand for his services. The clock is ticking.

    And over in Boston, Rob Refsnyder hit his first homer of the year for the Red Sox.

    Yeah, what a great game for Rooker with 2 more homers, but again in a losing cause. And the pitcher of record in the loss: our old buddy Trevor May.

    I'm wondering about Balazovic's role now too. If he's comfortable in the pen, that's not a bad thing, but I hadn't heard anything previously about converting him to a reliever.

    Except for poor Nick Gordon. Hope the hits start falling for him ASAP!

    Rooker hit his first homer for Oakland yesterday, and good ole Eddie Rosario hit one out for Atlanta. Hope that both players can continue to contribute to their new teams.

    Definitely a bit more lineup flexibility this year, at least in regards to players that can play more than one position, plus the quality of the bench appears better and deeper this year. Sure, it's still too early to pass any fair judgment on the front office's moves, but even with all these early injuries we don't need to panic too much at this juncture.

    Good article. Sure, the performance, and health, of our outfielders will be a big key to a winning season, but the headline of the article made me wonder. I would say that the key to a winning/playoff-bound season will hinge more on the performance of the pitching staff, particularly the starters. If even 4 of our main 5 starters can stay healthy and pitch as well as they have the first 2 weeks of the season we'll be in very good shape.

    Baltimore is making use of Danny Coulombe in the bullpen, He pitched another scoreless inning yesterday, his ERA remaining at 0.00. In the same game, Brent Rooker had 2 hits for Oakland, but nothing for extra bases.

    Over in Atlanta yesterday Michael Tonkin pitched: 3 scoreless innings and only gave up 1 hit with 3 strikeouts. And in their bullpen Nick Anderson pitched a scoreless inning.

    Yeah, a sad start for Jose after a lackluster season last year. It's still early, so hope he can turns things around, but those are brutal early numbers.
