  1. Fully agree. Way overdue and I'm sure the players are happy with those higher salaries. But the biggest shock may have been the big jump for players in the "complex league." Frankly, I'm not sure what the means? Is the short-season league for newly drafted players?
  2. Yeah, that's surprising that the Red gave up on Hajjar so quickly, or at least they thought that trading him was a better option. I liked it when the Twins drafted Haijar out of college, and I still think he could be a good MLB starter. And like FlyingFinn said, the Guardians tend to have good luck with the pitchers they develop, so stay tuned!
  3. I didn't know much about Farmer before the Twins traded for him, but he seems like a good overall player, plus the position flexibility is a big bonus. A few years back I also liked Adrianza (back with Atlanta again this year) in the utility infield role, but Farmer seems to have more power.
  4. That was a bit surprising. He was playing a lot of spring games for the Rangers, and his stats looked pretty good. I suppose they are hoping that Garver is able to catch more this year.
  5. Chargois is now with the Marlins and putting up good numbers in spring training games.
  6. Yeah, I'd even go as far to put Maeda in the winner column. Sure, his spring stats weren't great, but he's coming back from a major injury and just to have him out there throwing multiple innings again is encouraging to me.
  7. Not sure if Ryan has a great enough season to get Cy Young votes ... but my own bold prediction has him pitching a no-hitter this year. Yes indeed!
  8. Biggest surprise for me was Sands making the cut instead of some like Coulombe or Hoffman. And yes, we are all wondering about the continuing presence of Pagan. We can only hope that he harnesses his "stuff" and makes fools of all of us non-believers.
  9. I think you are right. Just from box score watching, it seems like the starters are pitching more innings earlier in the spring already, and that's not only the Twins.
  10. I love players with above average speed, not only the ability to steal bases, but running the base paths well, and in general being a disruptive influence for the opposing team. Hoping the Twins can utilize this skill with players (hello, Mr. Buxton!) that have this trait.
  11. I was rooting for DeLeon, especially after his excellent contribution to Puerto Rico's perfect game last week, but after yesterday's shellacking ... ouch! Maybe Ortega has can be the dark horse savior?
  12. Not sure if they were really flaws: both Bundy and Archer were semi-intriguing signings that could have produced better results. Neither one was awful, so I can't fault the Twins for signing either of them. Sometimes you have to roll the dice and hope for good luck. That said, I am MUCH more confident about this year's starting rotation. Go Twins!
  13. Very surprised that Hoffmann was sent down. Looked like he was going to be included in the pen. I would think that Coulombe deserves a shot, based on a stellar spring, but then again Moran could be the one that makes the cut.
  14. Looking like Rooker may make the Oakland roster to start the season. After being traded by the Twins, and then castoff by the Padres and Royals, might he have finally be ready for a starting role in the majors? I know it's only spring training, but Grossman is raking for the Rangers. And even Palacios might make the Tigers squad. Not saying that we miss any of those guys all that much, but it's nice to see them playing well.
  15. That sums it up nicely. High expectations will invariably lead to disappointment. Hope for the best and cross a few fingers.
  16. Very good article! Will keep my eyes on the progress of these youngsters. Very comforting to know that we have some strong arms coming up through the ranks.
  17. I used to go to Spring training games every year when the Twins had their camp in Orlando (1960s through 1980s). Lots of great memories, but I can't get my head around all the changes to ST, in recent years, most especially the wide choice of food! Sure beats having to put up with blah hot dogs and stale popcorn.
  18. I just don't see Cave getting enough at bats to have a "breakout" season. And as saviking noted, we also have prospects like Krilloff, Larnach, and Rooker who could likely make appearances this year. Cave is a good guy to have as a backup, but I just don't see where he's going to become some sort of star starter.
  19. I love watching Buxton play the game; playing center field, running the bases, it's all a joy to watch. But you can't deny that he has a hard time staying off the IL. Injury prone sounding too negative? Let's call him Healthily Challenged.
  20. Good article! Honestly, I don't know what to expect. Being a longtime Twins fan I've become used to not having high expectations at all. But if either Duran or Balazovic turns into a high-end starter that would be nice. And if they both end up being rotation staples that would be extra great. All we can do is hope. Keep the faith ... and don't wear out those arms too quickly.
  21. Setting aside the issue of salaries and impending free agency, I think the Dodgers were the big winner in this deal. But I still think the Twins did okay too. Getting an above average starter like Maeda was huge. Then again, another year or two down the line I may regret that opinion if Graterol becomes an all-star. But I still think the Red Sox didn't get much of a return for losing both Betts and Price. If I'm a Boston fan I'd be feeling very disappointed.
  22. I'm not so sure this is about holding grudges. It's more about playing the game fairly and showing accountability. And should the players who were involved also be punished? I think that's a fair question. Grudges are something else.
  23. Yeah, but that would be a fun scenario to see happen!
  24. I still like the trade, even in this revised form. As Brock and others have said, the Twins are a stronger team now than they were a month ago. But ... I still hate to see Brusdar go. When I saw the trade announced today, my first thought was that a lot of people on this board would moan about losing Luke Raley as part of the package. Seems like many had high hopes for him. But as noted by others already, we have other very good prospects that can play a similar position so I'm not too sad about losing him. I'm more annoyed that we had to give up a fairly high draft pick to get the deal done. But hey, I like our starting rotation a lot more now.
  25. I agree with that assessment. Not sure what happened to the Twins' sky-high hopes for Brusdar, but that bright and shiny optimistic glow seemed to suddenly dim in recent months.
