    Except for poor Nick Gordon. Hope the hits start falling for him ASAP!

    Rooker hit his first homer for Oakland yesterday, and good ole Eddie Rosario hit one out for Atlanta. Hope that both players can continue to contribute to their new teams.

    Definitely a bit more lineup flexibility this year, at least in regards to players that can play more than one position, plus the quality of the bench appears better and deeper this year. Sure, it's still too early to pass any fair judgment on the front office's moves, but even with all these early injuries we don't need to panic too much at this juncture.

    Good article. Sure, the performance, and health, of our outfielders will be a big key to a winning season, but the headline of the article made me wonder. I would say that the key to a winning/playoff-bound season will hinge more on the performance of the pitching staff, particularly the starters. If even 4 of our main 5 starters can stay healthy and pitch as well as they have the first 2 weeks of the season we'll be in very good shape.

    Baltimore is making use of Danny Coulombe in the bullpen, He pitched another scoreless inning yesterday, his ERA remaining at 0.00. In the same game, Brent Rooker had 2 hits for Oakland, but nothing for extra bases.

    Over in Atlanta yesterday Michael Tonkin pitched: 3 scoreless innings and only gave up 1 hit with 3 strikeouts. And in their bullpen Nick Anderson pitched a scoreless inning.

    Yeah, a sad start for Jose after a lackluster season last year. It's still early, so hope he can turns things around, but those are brutal early numbers.

    I agree, Even in a situation like the one in this game, it seems as if teams nowadays are adverse to bunting. What a delight to see Taylor bunt in that situation. I love it! And even better that it resulted in the winning run scoring.

    Seeing the starters going deeper into the games without getting the hook is very nice to see. Maybe it's a combination of Rocco being much more confident with this rotation, plus we actually had a spring training of normal length this year. These pitchers seemed like they were prepared to tackle heavier loads even in early April.

    the Might Mussels plated five runs off a flurry of knocks, releasing more hit singles than Earth Wind and Fire. That was my favorite line of the week! Thank you! Keep Your Head to the Sky!

    Yes indeed, another encouraging game for Polanco. When do we expect he'll be back with the big club?

    So many shortstops and so little games. Yes, it is a bit of a problem, not only at Cedar Rapids but at other levels too. But as others have suggested, some of these player should be able to, somewhat effortlessly. slide over to second or third base, or even do some outfield duty. Good athletes like these guys are somewhat resilient.

    Tough break for Odorizzi .. and the Rangers. But the Rangers finally have more depth with their starting pitching this year, especially if DeGrom stays healthy.

    Having Polanco, Kirilloff, Lewis in the lineup on a regular basis will be a nice headache to have!

    I agree. These minor league reports are MUCH appreciated! And great to see some impressive strikeout numbers by both Varland and Festa. Keep 'em coming ... both the strikeouts and these detailed reports!

    Yes indeed, Beating teams like the Royals and Marlins is encouraging, but if we can't stick it to the likes of the Astros and Yankees we ain't going anywhere this year.

    That's the first I noticed that Raya was on the IL also. Any details? Hope it's nothing long-term.

    Thanks for all the comments and input on these players. Other than the "star" prospects I don't know much about most of the others in the minors. Good to get more background on these guys. Hopefully, some of them actually CAN contribute to the MLB club in the near future.

    As others have suggested, maybe the time to re-visit this trade is later in the season. At that point, hopefully Mahle is starting regularly and pitching well. And for the Reds, Steer looks like a solid starter at third and when CES is healthy he might come up and start mashing like he did in spring training. Or not. Way too early to tell. But I liked the trade when it was made and I still like it. The Twins absolutely needed another strong arm in the rotation and they got one, and got it without dealing any of their more highly coveted prospects. Could be a win-win for both teams and that's great.

    Anyone but Kepler. Buxton makes some sense on many levels, but his OBP doesn't seem to warrant having him leading off. I'm intrigued by Nick Gordan as a possibility, but he's not a regular starter at this point in the season, so maybe we use someone like Farmer or even Gallo? Yeah, plenty of strike outs, but he knows how to take a walk. Honestly, I don't think it's a big concern as long as we are not leaving too many men on base.
