  1. Yeah, a good game, and further evidence that it's too early to send him packing. As others have noted, he's pretty much done what we expected, although I haven't seen much evidence of him being a plus defender. Still, it's a long season, and we're still not sure when Lewis is coming back, so no need to pass judgment right now.
  2. Agree with that 100%. I was not that enthused about hiring a younger hitting coach with so little experience, but when you are dealing with so many veteran players, they are the ones that have to answer to the performance issues. I don't think a hitting/batting coach is going to make that much difference with the established players.
  3. I loved that juggling act by Gallo, but on one of those replays it looked like the ball hit the ground before he caught it in his bare hand. Maybe the umps ignored that due to the theatrics of the catch!
  4. And thank heavens for that automatic runner in that inning!
  5. In this report Seth mentioned that Andrew Stevenson stole his 11th base of the season. That's an impressive stat for this early in the year. I realize he's not a young prospect, but he does have some MLB experience. Might we see him called up at some point this season?
  6. Zebby! I love the name, and as you noted, he's been pitching well too. Keep it coming!
  7. I think you are right. Sending down Miranda to get some confidence (and maybe some fielding tips?) will be a good thing when all is said and done.
  8. I agree. Oakland can't afford to give up any prospects at all at this point. They will keep looking for waiver pickups and guys like Brent Rooker who were cast off by other teams.
  9. Thanks for digging up that stat too. Once again, I'm very surprised!
  10. Happy to see Alcala called back up. But with our hitting woes this year, I'm starting to wonder if any of our pitchers have some latent pinch-hitting skills that we can use?
  11. That stat surprises me, but thanks for pointing it out. I guess that's somewhat of a silver lining, but man, I sure wish the hits would start dropping more often, and have more of these stranded runners start scoring.
  12. Paddack seems to be the one pitcher that many people keep forgetting about. But if he comes back healthy and at full strength, I think he'll be a great addition to the rotation.
  13. I recall a lot of people on this board being fans of Tyler Wells a few years ago, and weren't happy when the Twins left him unprotected. And indeed, that was a bigger loss, I think, than Baddoo. Speaking of whom, there is a rather funny/painful video of Baddoo being caught stealing in yesterday's Tiger's game. Ouch!
  14. I'm not sure the trade was so much of a mistake, seeing as how the Twins wanted to give Miranda more playing time, plus guys like Lewis and Lee are waiting in the wings. But I agree that Urshela is missed. It would be nice to have his bat in the lineup this year!
  15. Or even further back, albeit with less hoopla, Terry Jorgensen.
  16. You wrote: "In an unusual event, Andrew Bechtold hit a homer in a game he could not play in, as he was placed on the Development List today while his homer came yesterday." I read that 3 times and I'm still confused. What happened, and in what order? Also, the beginning of the article said that Bechtold was placed on the temporary inactive list. Is that the same as the Development List? And what does that mean for his playing status?
  17. I agree, I think Gordon is more comfortable in the outfield at this point, and that will also have a positive effect on his batting. Or so I hope!
  18. Very interesting article! I can see the becoming a factor in some games. You wrote: ... each team is allowed three challenges to be initiated only on the field, within seconds, from the batter, pitcher, or catcher So I assume this means that the manager does not have the power to make a challenge? Or is that a separate thing altogether? If it's only up to the players, this could get messy.
  19. I think a lot of people were underwhelmed by Quantrill's performance. Reading Rocco's postgame comments was interesting. I definitely got the feeling that he wasn't very impressed with Quantrill, perhaps even more mystified why someone with such control issues could baffle the Twins' hitters so easily.
  20. Twins prospect Royce Lewis will begin a rehab assignment this week starting out at Wichita. That's the best news I've read so far this week!
  21. It's still very early in the season, but Rooker hasn't cooled off yet. Looks like he may end up being the sole representative for Oakland in the All-Star game.
  22. I have a lot of respect for Brock and Ashbury in regards to their informed analysis of the stats. But as an old school fan, I have to admit that most of these advanced stats, or sabermetrics, still make my head spin. Try as I might, I still can't get my head around most of this stuff. But in any case, keep it coming, I might eventually learn something!
