  1. He didn't get the no-no, but another good start for Berrios. He's turned back into an effective pitcher this season.
  2. Farmer could be a good option. I like how he's played this year for the Twins.
  3. With Polanco's injury history I can't see the Twins getting much of value for him in a trade at this point. I'd love to have him back if he looks healthy as the season progresses, but that's a big IF. And unless the Twins look like they have a good-fielding option at second base (don't think Julien qualifies for that), I'd roll the dice and pick up Polanco's option again. Or do they go out and sign a free agent second baseman, or trade for one? Not an easy decision.
  4. I've becoming very impressed with Ober, after being somewhat skeptical last year. As you noted, he has done what it takes to stay on the team. The fact that he gave up 2 early home runs, but didn't get rattled and pitched a very effective game, was very impressive. Good mentality for a pitcher to have. Glad to have him!
  5. Very true! I've noticed that a lot of Taylor's homers have been like that. Once again, surprising power for a guy not known for his strength, but I hope it continues.
  6. Going back to the original question posed in this post, is Buxton worth the money he received in the extension? Well, that depends ... on his health for one thing. If we get a healthy Buxton who can play centerfield most of the times, by all means it's a good deal. But as things stand now, we don't seem to have much clarity about his health, nor any idea when he can/will take the field again. If his performance, as he's shown as a DH this year, continues at this lackluster rate then I think the contract benefits Buxton more than the Twins. At this rate he is never going to come close to equalling what Nelson Crux did as a DH ... in his late 30s. All that said, I still think it was a good gamble for the Twins to take a chance on giving the extension to Buxton. At this point I just hope we get a few good years of productivity.
  7. Over in Baltimore, after escaping from the New York Zoo (although perhaps not by his own choice) Aaron Hicks is starting to hit again. He's batting over .300 this month, and just hit his third homer of the year in the Orioles slugfest yesterday. Not sure how long he will remain in the starting lineup with Mullins injured, but he's making the most of his second chance. Or is it his third chance?
  8. I appreciate the article and the background on these prospects. Thanks! At this point, I hope they draft pitchers, pitchers, and even more pitchers. Find an infielder with a good arm and convert him to a pitcher (shades of Jacob DeGrom?), but just find us some good arms!
  9. Celestino is looking good in his rehab games thus far. I say "rehab" but not sure what the plan is for him this year. Will they leave him at AAA for a few months, or possibly be called up again soon due to the need for extra center field depth with the big club?
  10. I have high hopes for Martin and wish that he is healthy and ready to play every day, preferably in the outfield. My concern is that this prolonged "rest" was just delaying another inevitable surgery. But I sure hope that's not the case.
  11. One of the nicest surprises about having Taylor on the team is the power he has shown this season. For a scrawny looking guy, he can blast the ball into the stands when he wants to, and into deep centerfield no less. And as wornsmooth said in his post, the speed that he and Castro add to the team is another huge plus. Keep it going!
  12. Yeah, I read the report after Adell's homer. Seems like a young player who is willing to do what it takes to stick in the majors. The article I read mentioned the depth of the Angels outfied, and Adell was only called up because Renfroe went on maternity leave. So who knows, maybe there is still a chance for a deal?
  13. I'm not feeling very optimistic at this point. Sure, due to the week division, we MAY be able to coast into a playoff spot. But unless the bats come alive I don't see this team advancing past the first round. Trades? I don't think that it's worth giving up anymore assets at this point just for another piece that may or may not help us. Keep what we have, roll the dice, and hope for another miracle.
  14. All good points. As it's always said; you can never have too many arms. I'm onboard with offering him an extension, but with the usual conditions: how much and for how long? I didn't know much about Mahle previous to last year's trade, but if his "stuff" is good enough, and if his shoulder issues are addressed, we should consider it. Yeah, yeah yeah; lots of ifs and buts, but I wouldn't hate an extension.
  15. Thanks for the info. I didn't realize that he was that old. Yeah, maybe not gonna rank with the high-end prospects, but like you said, he might end up being a good backup in the outfield.
  16. Thanks for the insight and report on Culpepper. I know next to nothing about the guy, but I'm always thankful for these reports that open my eyes and put players like that on my radar. Thank you!
  17. This site is a lifeline for me, as a lifelong Twins fan. I grew up in Orlando and used to see the Twins play spring training games there, and then I followed them via their minor league teams in Orlando for many years (before the move to Ft. Myers). I would also fly up to Minneapolis each summer and see Twins games at the Humpty Dome, climaxing it all by attending games 6 and 7 of the 1991 World Series. Man, that was amazing! For the past 20-plus years I've been based in Southeast Asia, mostly in Thailand, but I still check online for Twins news and box scores each and every day. Thank you all for contributing to this site!
  18. I honestly don't think the idea of trading Kepler is remotely realistic at this point. He's too old and too streaky.
  19. As others have mentioned, we're a bit weak on real catching prospects, so it will be interesting to see how he does in the coming months. Not sure we'll see him this season, but the injury factor can also necessitate a sudden callup.
  20. Very happy to see the impressive outing by Maeda. I continue to root for the guy. Hope he will be effective when he's called back up, whether that's as a starter or even in the bullpen.
  21. Keirsey seems like the sort of player the Twins can use, at least in some role. He's definitely making a good impression this year.
  22. Taylor's BA and OBP may still be low by most standards, but he's done a lot of little things --- as well as hitting a few timely homers --- that has helped the club win games this year. I continue to be impressed by his play, and also hearing his thoughtful post-game comments. Glad to have him on the team.
  23. Yes indeed. I like seeing batters hitting doubles! Okay, not as productive as a home run, but much much better than strike out after strike out. Get those runners on base, someway, somehow.
  24. Yes, I sure hope they start to stretch Raya's starts. As you suggested, nothing close to 100 pitches, but maybe just a few more? He doesn't strike me as that fragile a pitcher, so let him go longer in the games.
