  1. One of the nicest surprises about having Taylor on the team is the power he has shown this season. For a scrawny looking guy, he can blast the ball into the stands when he wants to, and into deep centerfield no less. And as wornsmooth said in his post, the speed that he and Castro add to the team is another huge plus. Keep it going!
  2. All good points. As it's always said; you can never have too many arms. I'm onboard with offering him an extension, but with the usual conditions: how much and for how long? I didn't know much about Mahle previous to last year's trade, but if his "stuff" is good enough, and if his shoulder issues are addressed, we should consider it. Yeah, yeah yeah; lots of ifs and buts, but I wouldn't hate an extension.
  3. Thanks for the info. I didn't realize that he was that old. Yeah, maybe not gonna rank with the high-end prospects, but like you said, he might end up being a good backup in the outfield.
  4. Thanks for the insight and report on Culpepper. I know next to nothing about the guy, but I'm always thankful for these reports that open my eyes and put players like that on my radar. Thank you!
  5. I honestly don't think the idea of trading Kepler is remotely realistic at this point. He's too old and too streaky.
  6. As others have mentioned, we're a bit weak on real catching prospects, so it will be interesting to see how he does in the coming months. Not sure we'll see him this season, but the injury factor can also necessitate a sudden callup.
  7. Very happy to see the impressive outing by Maeda. I continue to root for the guy. Hope he will be effective when he's called back up, whether that's as a starter or even in the bullpen.
  8. Keirsey seems like the sort of player the Twins can use, at least in some role. He's definitely making a good impression this year.
  9. Taylor's BA and OBP may still be low by most standards, but he's done a lot of little things --- as well as hitting a few timely homers --- that has helped the club win games this year. I continue to be impressed by his play, and also hearing his thoughtful post-game comments. Glad to have him on the team.
  10. Yes indeed. I like seeing batters hitting doubles! Okay, not as productive as a home run, but much much better than strike out after strike out. Get those runners on base, someway, somehow.
  11. Yes, I sure hope they start to stretch Raya's starts. As you suggested, nothing close to 100 pitches, but maybe just a few more? He doesn't strike me as that fragile a pitcher, so let him go longer in the games.
  12. ... call on George Springer for a little more of the clutch magic he has worked in his legendary MLB career. Springer is a good player, but to call his career "legendary" is laying it on a bit too thick! By that standard, Michael A. Taylor is legendary. A good player, and happy to have him, but not yet a legend.
  13. And then there is the forgotten man: Randy Dobnak. I noticed that he starts the game tomorrow for the Saints. Wishing him good luck and hope that he can make it back to the Twins in some capacity this year or next. Do people still see him as a starter?
  14. Twins only mustered 3 hits, and against a bunch of no-name relief pitchers! The Rays weren't even using one of their good starting pitchers. I guess they'll save those for the better teams. Not an encouraging week for the Twins.
  15. The Rays are sure doing something right. Every year they end up with a bunch of no-names in their bullpen and continue to win games. And they also seem to find an outlier like Raley to stick in the lineup and produce well too.
  16. Yeah, in retrospect it would be nice to have Arraez still in the lineup, but then again, he'd be just another runner left on base.
  17. I was just going to ask about his status. Thanks for that update!
  18. And very quickly, he hit his third home for the Padres. Maybe too late for the All-Star game, but good results for Gary so far.
  19. Chapman has been good this year for the Royals, but by no means would I give up a "high-end prospect" for him. Right now, I'd be looking for a better bat to add to the outfield.
  20. I didn't realize that Chourio was part of the package we received for Arreaz. I knew about Lopez and Salas, but didn't know that there was a third piece in the return. Not that it lessens the sting at this point, but still good to have another prospect on board.
  21. Good overview on the possible choices. Thanks! Whoever they choose, please let it be a pitcher! I'm weary of all these shortstops. Sure, I understand the philosophy of picking great athletes, but I want an arm. Skenes would be wonderful if he falls to number 5, but I'd take any of the choices you gave.
  22. An encouraging outing by Balazovic. Only 3 1/3 innings pitched but 7 strikeouts! Looking much better this year.
  23. Ugly and it could get worse. I can't imagine this current Twins lineup being remotely competitive against a very strong and balanced Tampa Bay team. I expect the Rays will sweep easily. But hey guys, surprise me!
