  1. Lopez had another less than stellar start, but at least he made it through the first inning this time without giving up any runs. He looked good through the first five and then it all came apart in the sixth. He seems like a very intelligent pitcher, so I hope he regains his mojo very soon.
  2. But back to the actual hitters of the month, Kiriloff definitely deserves the honor. A relief to have him back on the team and hitting well. And Jeffers has been even hotter lately. That's been the real surprise for me this year. Maybe they can help motivate Buxton and Correa to start hitting better.
  3. Maybe I'm only seeing it from a very narrow perspective, but whenever I see Buxton batting, he's either striking out or hitting a home run. Okay, he's got a handful of doubles and actually he's getting more walks this year too, but if you're talking about "clutch" I don't think he's the guy you want to depend on. As jkcarew said: "Moderately average" DH is pretty much an apt description. But with Buxton's talent I expect much much better performance.
  4. Sanchez hit his first homer for the Padres yesterday.
  5. Well yeah, we lost that trade. Sigh. But looking back, I'd do it again (of course, doing it with the hope that Mahle would be healthy). We wanted an above average starting pitcher, and we didn't have to give up any of our top tier prospects to get him. It looked like a good win-win trade at the time. I liked it. But now ... not much more to add. This one stings. I wish Steer and CES all the best and hope they have long careers. Don't know what will happen to Mahle at this point, but it's doubtful we'll see him in a Twins uniform again. But hey, that's baseball. Funny game.
  6. Good point. Varland and Ober are both looking good since they were brought back up. If they can sustain that effectiveness Maeda might end up in the bullpen, which may not be a bad option.
  7. Tyler White? I must have blinked and missed that one. Honestly, who was he?
  8. I still Maeda can be a valuable starting pitcher for us this year. If he's healthy, send him out there!
  9. Very informative article! Cardenas seems like an intriguing catching prospect, and we certainly need more of those and soon! Also pleased with how Zebby Matthews has pitched this year, and you gotta love the name!
  10. Yeah, Wallner keeps on hitting. Sure would be nice to have his bat back in Minnesota. As you said, they need to find a way to get him in the lineup on a regular basis. If he keeps hitting like he has been lately that would be VERY helpful to an underwhelming Twins lineup.
  11. Like most everyone here, in an ideal/healthy world, we'd have Buxton back in CF full-time. As far the DH role, I appreciate the deep dive the article did on the stats. To my eye test, Buxton has been less than stellar at DH, striking out too much and/or hitting into double plays. The second coming of Nelson Cruz he is not. All that said, I sure wish he would use his world-class speed at lot more. We've seen him running the bases, and in the past in the field. Why can't he bunt for a few hits? Or steal more bases? With speed like he has, it can be VERY disruptive to the opposing team. But hey, if he still IS having knees issues, I understand the reluctance not to go sliding into bases (albeit bigger ones this year!).
  12. Yeah, I'm sure that Steer is very happy to be starting with the Reds this year. His stats are looking better and better this month. Don't think the Reds are thinking about sending him back to AAA at this point.
  13. Personally, I'm very disappointed in Buxton this year. Hey, I get the idea of having him DH and keeping his bat in the lineup, but other than a few timely home runs, how much has his batting contributed to wins this year? If he's healthy, I say put him back in center field ASAP and show us how great a player he can be. I'm just tired of all the strikeouts and leaving runners on base. I really had high hopes for Buxton this year, but I'm honestly having my doubts at this point.
  14. Don't know a thing about it him, but just for the name, I'd love to have a pitcher named Noble Meyer!
  15. Meanwhile, after his amazingly hot start, Brent Rooker is sinking like a rock. According to my calculations, he is batting only .202 in May, bringing his season average down to .268. His OBP is still very good at .371, but we may have to postpone those All-Star plans unless he gets hot again.
  16. I think the Reds are very happy with Hunter Greene. Good pick!
  17. I agree, everything that I've read about Lewis, either pre-injury or post-injury, indicates that not only is his attitude great, but he's not a quitter. Got some fire in the belly. Seems like a throwback to the gritty players of the old days. If he can get on base and steal some bases, maybe this team will start scoring some runs again!
  18. I sure hope you are right. I've been disappointed by Woods-Richardson's performance this year, but the slow start by Rodriguez is even more puzzling and worrying. Hope he's healthy and ready to put up some better numbers next month.
  19. Yes, that was a VERY heads-up play by Correa to get Guerrero at first base. Would be nice to see him start hitting better, but you can't fault his work at shortstop.
  20. It seems like all of Marco Raya's starts are very short ones, both in innings and number of pitches. What's the story with that? Is he on some of pitch limit or what?
  21. I love the fact that the Twins were able to get on base via walks 9 times ... but of course you need to bring those runners home and that didn't happen. 13 men left of base! Pitiful.
  22. During the last series, after another Twins loss, the roundup on ESPN stated: Minnesota struck out 16 times, matching a season high. Twins batters lead the major leagues with 474 strikeouts,
  23. Sure, in an ideal world you can always hope for a better bullpen, but I'm pretty content with what we have this year. As others have pointed out, our biggest problem is scoring runs and avoiding strikeouts. Last I read, we were leading the league (or the majors?) in striking out this season. Gotta put the ball in play!
