  1. Passive is an appropriate criticism. This team needs more fire and passion.
  2. That's my take on these pitches too. But I like to read about these "new-fangled" pitches and hope to understand more about how they work, or why they are effective ... or not.
  3. Bullpens are fluid, and the line between Triple-A depth and meaningful innings at Target Field is often thin. If even one of these veterans finds his footing, this will look like a quietly effective bit of roster building. That pretty much says it. Some low risk signings that could actually be beneficial before the season is finished.
  4. Totally agree with that opinion! I hate those over-the-top celebrations in meaningless games.
  5. I only saw the reply and I was puzzled why Gray looked like he was half-jogging to third base. Very weird play. I should know this, but who is the third base coach this year? Too bad we can't blame this one on Watkins!
  6. I always thought Alcala would turn into a good arm for the bullpen, but that never really happened. Maybe there is still potential, but at this point I'm pessimistic. But hey, if he appears better than what we've got, bring him back.
  7. I expect a lot of drama and changes and experiments with this bullpen over the course of the season. I'm not even sure that most of these pitchers will still be on the team when July rolls around. It's going to be a wild and bumpy ride.
  8. Wonderful to have these minor league reports again, complete with videos and analysis. Thank you Seth and gang! I sure hope we can make room for Roden on the MLB roster soon.
  9. Lots of talent coming up. I'm especially intrigued with the potential of Riley Quick. Hopefully, he will be as good as his name!
  10. Thanks for the update. Encouraging news. Whether Festa stays as a starter, or becomes a bullpen piece, I hope we can count on seeing him sometime this season.
  11. Seems like it will be challenging to find playing time for all of those outfielders. At least two of those players, if not more, should be called up in the coming months.
  12. Ah man, that would be a good thing to dream about!
  13. I keep wondering if moving Lee to second base and Keaschall to first base might be the best move in the long run? Whatever happens, I sure don't think Lee is the solution at shortstop.
  14. Gray instead of Arcia as the backup shortstop?
  15. I wonder who will arrive first: Diaw or Tait? Both appear like they might rise quickly through the system and be ready to contribute within the next two years. Do both players stick as catchers?
  16. I didn't realize that the Twins were doing that with Mendez, but I second the motion! We need a permanent solution at first base instead of this revolving door of free agents we get every season. But ... the big question will be: how well can he handle the position defensively?
  17. I think Arcia was one of the vets that had an opt-out agreement, but he's still with the team. Seems like he might have a shot to claim that backup role. I realize that Kreidler is the better fielder, but that bat will leave a big hole in the lineup if he gets much playing time. Well, you could say that for both players really.
  18. Kiersey was in camp with the Braves too, but I assume he didn't make the cut.
  19. I'm sorry that Roden got bumped in favor or Outman, but the old "he still has options" factor no doubt played a big part in that decision. And yeah, meanwhile we still have Larnach for some reason.
  20. There hasn't been much talk about Matt Bowman as a bullpen option. He's put up good numbers so far in spring training. Might he make the team?
  21. Thanks for that. I think that "perception" of velocity can actually be a factor in the effectiveness for pitchers like Ober. Whatever helps to deceive the batter or put him off balance is a plus.
  22. Guzman had a few good seasons with the Twins. Didn't he lead the league in triples one year?
  23. Yeah, this is not the same as when we let go of guys like Hoffman before the season started.
  24. Did the Twins make a grave mistake by letting go of two proven veterans, or do you have faith that this is a sign that the tide is turning in Minnesota ... Grave mistake? Not at all. A bit surprising, sure, but obviously neither pitcher looked "lights out" enough to hang on to him for the coming season. Maybe they want to try some of the younger prospects in the pen? But I'm also not sure any sort of tide is turning. Not until we fork out some real money and sign, or trade for, a truly effective relief pitcher with a proven track record that will make us all sleep blissfully at night. But I don't see that happening this year.
