  1. oops ... just saw that this was a very old post!
  2. Lovelady had a few good seasons with the A's. He might be a good piece for the bullpen.
  3. Never heard of the guy. But at this point, every extra healthy body matters.
  4. Did the Twins really sign Arcia to a minor league deal? I looked for an article or post about that and can't find anything. If they did, I think it's a good move. We need someone to backup Lee at SS and Arcia would be fine.
  5. I think Soto should be in the top five too. I have high hopes for this kid. He could be a major piece in our starting rotation in a few more years.
  6. And hopefully we can convert at least one of those guys to be a relief pitcher.
  7. Agreed, Those were three VERY GOOD arms in the bullpen, and it will be hard to replace them. Hard, but not impossible. The other young arms we picked up in trades are also very good, or least look like they COULD be very good. But all three of these acquired arms have been starters thus far, so that presents the dilemma; do we keep them as starters, or convert some/all off them to relief roles? I honestly don't know. But I think we do have those guys and some other arms like Festa and Zebby, that might make solid bullpen pieces. I agree that we really didn't decimate the team too badly in that final month. The core of the team is still intact. So far, at least. And if a few more good pieces (and go out and get them now: don't wait until March, the pickings are already slim) are added, I still think the Twins can compete for at least a division title this season. I keep remembering 1987 and 1991, with the Twins going from last to first, and I still think those sort of "miracles" are possible. That hope keeps me being a fan.
  8. I don't think that's true. We still have a darn good starting rotation even without Ryan, From posts in recent months, the general feeling seemed to be that trading Ryan would get us the biggest return, possibly even an impact bat and/or a good pitcher for the bullpen. Due to our relative surplus of guys that can start games this coming season, I still think it's worthwhile to at least consider offers for Ryan. He's obviously a very good pitcher and can help our team this season, but I don't think we would be writing off the season by trading him.
  9. This is good news for Rob. After bouncing around the majors for several years, he ended being a very useful player for Boston the past two seasons. Good luck to him in Seattle.
  10. Not much. Which is why I think trading Ryan is the only idea that makes any sense. He's the one pitcher that will bring back the most value. I'd rather keep Ober, SWR, Bradley, and company and see how they perform this coming season. But I don't think any of those other guys, other than Lopez of course, will bring us back anything of value in a trade.
  11. Gotta agree with most of that. Lee is a very puzzling player to me. He SEEMS to have the talent and the baseball IQ to succeed, but something is not clicking. Part of me understands that he is still relatively young and settling into major league baseball, but when I see clips of him playing I am almost always underwhelmed. I just don't see him becoming a star. The fact that people are already talking about him as a utility player speaks volumes about his future.
  12. I hope the Twins are able to trade Larnach for something/anything, but methinks the return will be very underwhelming. But the bottom line: he has outlived his usefulness with our team. I don't think Outman is the answer either, but I suppose the Twins need to save face and keep him for another few months.
  13. Where did that happen? I assume this was a separate issue from the beaning that was also mentioned by some other posters.
  14. I have no recollection of this HBP, beaning, or whatever happened. When and where did it happen? But that could indeed have been a huge factor in his downward spiral.
  15. Is Gordon in another team's organization at this point? Or will he become a full-time rapper?
  16. Chafin seems to put up consistently good numbers each season, as does Coulombe, Kinley might be a good pickup too.
  17. There is certainly no sugar-coating Butera's performance with the Twins. It was horrible. But I never called him a primary catcher, only a backup. His Twins tenure was the worst of his MLB career. After he left the Twins he DID hang on and play almost another decade (12 years in all) as a decent backup catcher with KC and a few other teams. No, he was never going to be a starter but he became useful enough he had a longer career than most of us would have expected, based on his time with the Twins.
  18. Butera was never going to challenge the likes of Arreaz for a batting title, but he was a decent backup catcher. I'll settle for something similar. But as this article noted, and bean said, there is certainly a chance that Jackson can up that batting average. After reading this article, I'm full of optimism!
  19. I hope you are right about that. A flurry of earlier moves, and ones that help this team, will be a welcome change of strategy for the front office.
  20. I hope he thrives in Japan. Should be a fun experience for him if nothing else.
  21. Not a very inspiring bunch of choices, but if the Twins want to add some power, outside of a trade, they may need to consider some of these players. Personally, I like Ozuna and he has remained productive the past few years, but I fear he won't fit the Twins' budget.
  22. Exactly, At this point, we may need to consider Gallo for the bullpen.
  23. Which I am doing more than usual tonight!
