  1. Yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes to all that! I am also not surprised that they are not going after any big name free agents, and that's fine. But I still wish the Twins would be more proactive and sign a few useful free agents that won't break the bank, maybe with the idea of building the bullpen back up again? I believe that is still a major issue. But alas, they will no doubt wait until February to make any sort of moves at all, and we will be lucky if any of those signings make a difference.
  2. Your memory is correct. I don't believe anyone was shedding tears that Popkins was leaving the Twins. Just goes to show how unpredictable this coaching stuff can be. Did Popkins change his methods? Highly unlikely. The most obvious explanation is that he just had a better bunch of hitters to work with. Or even more concerning, did the Twins brass or Rocco somehow hinder his ability to get more out of the Twins hitters? I have no idea, but it does make you wonder what went wrong with his tenure with us.
  3. This is a good one ... and I am totally stumped!
  4. Of those three players, the only one that appeals to me is O'Hearn. Bell seems to be more of a DH guy at this point in his career.
  5. Do I still believe in Royce Lewis and his ability to be a star? Of course I do! I'm a longtime Twins fan and it's in my DNA to believe and hope. But I'm not a gambler, so I would hesitate to make any bets on this coming to fruition. Nevertheless, it he manages to stay healthy all season, this coming year may finally be the time we see Royce Lewis blossom into something special. The tools are obviously there, but he is the one that has to put it all together. Not sure it any special coaching can help at this point or not. Maybe a good sports psychologist would be a better avenue to explore.
  6. Well, this was a head-spinning series of moves! I first read the news, thinking they would nab a pitcher, but when I saw that it was a catcher, I thought: that's cool, we need a backup catcher. Sure, we now have Jackson and/or Pereda to fill that role, but one more body can't hurt, especially if all this speculation about trading Jeffers actually happens. Okay, so now the pick is traded and we get yet another catcher, but only a teenager, one who is many years away from even possibly being a candidate for an MLB job. Weird trade, but reading all the details, I get it. But what happens now? Is Jeffers here is stay or still on the trading block? If he DOES get traded, but still need a legitimate starter to take his place, and I don't see the Twins going the free agent route to replace him, at least not for this coming season.
  7. Culpepper seems like the player most likely picked in the draft. As Tony&Rodney said, it's usually pitchers that are picked in the early part of the draft. Still puzzling why the Twins left some of the borderline players on the 40-man. I only hope that WE can find a keeper if we choose to pick someone.
  8. I agree with that too. Outside of getting rid of Correa (and his contract) and of course losing basically half of the bullpen, we still have most our core remaining. Of course, any major trades might nullify the idea that we can compete this season. But If players like Lewis, Lee, and Wallner can hit better than last season, and the bulk of our starting rotation stays, I don't see why we can't have a winning season ... but only if we add two or three dependable arms to the bullpen. Honestly, I don't think it's the insurmountable task that some people make it out to be. Sure, a lot has to go right (can Buxton stay healthy, for example), but I remain optimistic.
  9. Small ball is fine by me. Get more guys on base, run the bases better, get some stolen bases and more clutch hits, and maybe, just maybe, we can score more runs. Home runs are sexy, but the power numbers are usually negated by too many strikeouts.
  10. I think this may be a huge factor in what the Twins decide to do. I didn't think trading Jeffers would be a wise move, mainly due to the dearth of catching talent in our system, but the idea of trading when he has value, fully knowing that he likely will NOT sign an extension, does make a lot of sense. Hey, see what another team offers and see what happens.
  11. Good point, Morris still COULD be someone that can step up. But I also think many Twins fans are sleeping on Taj Bradley. I think he will be a mainstay in the rotation if given the chance.
  12. Don't forget the Pirates and their #1 pick still waiting to blossom, Henry Davis.
  13. Well stated. One of the best posts I've read this off-season. Keep 'em coming!
  14. Of the three pitchers highlighted in the article, Finnegan would be my choice by far. But doubtful that he will still be available in February, the most likely time when the Twins end up signing anyone.
  15. I didn't want the Twins to sign Hoskins 2 years ago,. and I STILL don't want them to sign him. Sure, we need a quality first basemen, but this guy is not the answer. If money is an issue, I'd rather use if for another one or two bullpen arms.
  16. Oh man, talking about launch angle is causing those cramps to come back!
  17. If you want a first baseman, he would make as much, or more sense than trying Sano.
  18. That's an appropriate suggestion. Too many of these players passed through the Twins organization VERY quickly!
  19. Just reading about a player named Shooty Babbit, plus one that was a former Sandanista rebel made my day --- and night! More, please!
  20. Yes, he has. He's one of those puzzling pitchers that bounces from team to team each season, but puts up good stats when he gets the chance.
