  1. I used to subscribe to Baseball America back in the day (ah, the glory days of real newsprint!) and followed prospects (and watched some of them play with the AA Orlando Twins) such as Steve Gasser, Derek Parks, David McCarty, Mark Funderburk, and on and on. As this article notes, very few of these players ever make it to the majors and stick. But still, it's always fun to read about these prospects and I thank Twins Daily for keeping us informed.
  2. Kinley would be a good addition. He held his own pitching in Colorado (or, as well as most pitchers can do in Colorado) but he seemed to truly settle in once the Braves picked him up. Most likely, I fear, the Twins will be searching the waiver wires for new arms this winter.
  3. Great to have Hawkins in this role. But reconstructed bullpen? Did I somehow miss I the reconstruction? Who did we sign? Ugh, okay, I get it: this process is an ongoing one and still in the future. But please, don't delay too long in finding some capable arms for Hawkins to work with. This bullpen needs a LOT of work and we can't rely in just our in-house options.
  4. I think Hawkins is a good choice too. But yeah, we need a few more new arms to work with before we have the makings of even a decent bullpen.
  5. That surprised me too. Seems like a few other players on the roster would have been dumped before him. Then again, with all those various roster manipulations and quirks, who knows what the eventual plan is for the front office, assuming there is a plan.
  6. Well, something good happened with Francona, because I remember those years in Philadelphia, and he didn't appear to have done much good with those teams. Can't Shelton replicate a transformation like that? Well, I'm doubtful, but also hopeful. Never say never.
  7. Totally agree. We don't need any more arms for the starting rotation (famous last words!), but I would not bet on May's health at all.
  8. We are grading this hiring already? Okay, it's the off-season and not much to write about at this juncture, but why another pointless article about the Shelton hiring? You can grade him once the season starts.
  9. Some good examples there. Some of our borderline starters certainly CAN make that transition and it won't take multiple seasons.
  10. Not sure about the Red Sox, but seems like the Padres could come calling now that Darvish is out for next season,.
  11. I have a lot of respect for Hawkins. He has the intelligence and experience to have a positive impact on young players. If he is interested in a job with the Twins beyond the announcer's booth, I think the Twins should give him a chance.
  12. In that clip of Winokur hitting the home run I was very impressed to see him running hard from the get-go, and not like some of those players who stand there for a moment to admire their homer. Good to see some hustle!
  13. Seems like O'Hearn would be a good get, but I see him more as a first baseman or DH. But I'd love to give some of our minor league guys a shot at a MLB job too. If they are knocking at the door, let 'em in!
  14. The only problem with trading Jeffers is ... the Twins will need to go out and find two other competent catchers to replace him, and I don't see that happening. I sure hope the Twins don't try and trade Lopez. I like his poise and talent and maturity. But I'm almost certain at this point that Ryan will be moved. I only hope we get more than a couple of "promising" prospects in return.
  15. Gotta say that I'm very surprised, if not shocked, by Ty France winning a gold glove, but kudos to him for working hard to earn the award. But what happened to him for Toronto in the post-season? I don't recall see his name in any of the box scores.
  16. That's one of things that has always puzzled me, or intrigued me, about catchers. How much positive impact do catchers have on the pitchers they are catching? Some catchers are obviously calling for certain pitches in games, and that can affect things, but in the grand scheme of things, how much to pitchers rely on their catcher? I suppose veterans would be less reliant than younger pitchers, but still, I wonder about these things and I don't know how you measure or use stats to accurately rate the job that a catcher does behind the plate, other than pitch framing or throwing out steal attempts.
  17. I didn't realize he was that good with the glove either. The thing that popped out this past season, obviously, was all the stolen bases. Good glove, good speed, and his hitting skills seem above average too. I hope he continues to impress us.
  18. Seems like the Pirates job was a tough one for any manager, especially for a first-timer like Shelton. I honestly don't know if he is the right/best person for the Twins job, but I'm patient enough to give him a chance. But he's going to need more than a few more capable players for this team. But will the front office shell out the money for some quality free agents?
  19. .... as well as other familiar faces from their days as players, such as Nick Punto and Torii Hunter. Nelson Cruz and Ehire Adrianza were also speculated to be intriguing options in fan circles, but like Hunter, neither were confirmed as actual candidates for the job. First time I'd heard Adrianza's name mentioned. But hey, I don't do the social media thing, so I guess I'll always be out of the loop. But a few of those guys could qualify as good coaches.
  20. That's what I thought. Hopefully, that was the biggest reason for his regression.
  21. Let's just hope that Shelton doesn't represent the wrong sort of "Deja Vu".
  22. Honestly, though, velocity wasn't the problem for Ober in 2025. Wasn't he dealing with some leg issues also?
  23. Good point, I think any pitchers with potential, even ones with control issues, you might want to keep. Pitchers are usually the first ones picked in this draft, but I'm not sure that Klein will be a real target for other teams. But, year in and year out, it seems like we are always looking for more arms, so if the choice is Klein or a position player, I'd opt to keep the pitcher.
