Great to see Dobnak putting in another solid performance. Not sure if we'll see him called up this season, but I hope to see him again at some point!

This string of wins is sort of nice! But hey, let's not get too giddy. As we have seen in the past, things can implode all too quickly. But back to the actual game, I realize it was getting into extra innings, but pinch hitting two half-blind players? An act of desperation or out-of-the-box strategy? Thankfully it all worked out, but what a weird game!

Very surprised that Keuchel chose to change his opt-out date, but glad that he did it. It will nice to have a back-up option for the rotation in case of any injuries or performance meltdowns. In any case, I hope he keeps putting up impressive numbers like he's been doing thus far in St. Paul.

Get to Know Twins Draft Pick, RHP Anthony Silvas
Doctor Wu replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thanks for another informative article and interview, Ted! Silvas is yet another pitcher who appears to have some untapped potential. I like the idea of drafting players like him from smaller colleges. One such college, near my old hometown of Orlando, is Stetson University in DeLand. In recent years that little college has turned out pitchers such as Jacob DeGrom and Corey Kluber. Not bad! Just goes to show that you never what sort of hidden treasures you can find in those smaller schools.- 2 replies

5 Offensive Trade Targets On Expiring Contracts
Doctor Wu replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Not much on that list that would, as people say "move the needle." We'd do just as well to bring up a bat like Larnach or Williams from AAA. But of the players on this list, I think that Candelario would have the most upside and actually help us. Renfroe looks good at times, and totally useless at others. I remember when he was traded to Tampa Bay a few years back and he couldn't even get his average over .200.- 17 replies

I was pleasantly surprised to see that Buxton stole a base in the game. I didn't see that play or any of the game, only read the box score, so it was interesting/enlightening to read the comments about how long it took him to get up after the steal. Hmm. If he really is having problems with the legs, I'm not sure he needs to be risking further injury with slides like that. What do others think? Obviously, Buxton is healthy enough to hit as a DH and run the bases, but are these stolen base attempts a good idea or not?

Great to see that. He was in the starting lineup for the Angels every game over the weekend, but that homer was the obvious highlight for him.

At least Wallner is starting to get some hits again.

It was Brayan Medina’s day on the mound, he of the Taylor Rogers trade to San Diego. Going five innings, Medina allowed just two runs on three hits and a pair of walks. He did strike out four. Thanks for that reminder! I had forgotten that we got more than Paddack and Pagan in that trade. It could still turn out in our favor, especially if Paddack bounces back successfully from TJ later this season. And hey, this Medina might turn into something too.

The Kernels sent C.J. Culpepper to the mound tonight and he turned in five innings of shutout baseball. The Cedar Rapids starter allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out four and keeping his ERA at 0.00. Best stat of the day!

It's only a handful of games so far, but Encarnacion-Strand has already homered and batting over .300. I know, I know; small sample size, but I think he's going to be a keeper for the Reds.

Great to see Maeda with a solid bounce-back outing. And as others have said, Julien and Kiriloff are clicking and even the much criticized Max Kepler is showing signs of life. Things are suddenly looking a big better!

The Minnesota Twins will finish their four-game series in Seattle on Thursday afternoon (2:40 pm central time). In an All Star matchup, the Twins will send former Mariner Pablo Lopez to the mound to face the Mariners’ George Kirby. I'm confused. Did Lopez actually pitch for the Mariners at some point?

Kind of cool that Danny Coulombe just got his first career save with Baltimore, and he did it by getting our old pal Luis Arraez to line out.

Mariners 7, Twins 6: Sonny Gray Boils Down
Doctor Wu replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins certainly had enough hits, just couldn't bring those runners home. And some sharper pitching would have helped too!- 65 replies

Fun win for the Wind Surge! In addition to the that, other nice performances from Brooks Lee, Keirsey, and the suddenly interesting Dallas Keuchel. Hmm ... what's gonna happen with that guy? If they bring him up, who loses a spot in Minnesota?

The Twins Should be Shopping Sonny Gray
Doctor Wu replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If the Twins are still in contention a month from now, I don't see them dealing Gray, even with free agency on the horizon. Sure, we have more starting pitching depth this year, but Gray is still a top of the rotation type pitcher when he is locked in, and I think we will really need him down the stretch if we want to win the division, and knock-on-wood, says it's possible, advance in the playoffs, Miracles can still happen and I think Sonny can be part of that equation. Plus, as others have said, I don't think trading him this late in the season, will give us much of value in return. -
Most draft picks, even the first rounders, will always be fraught with risk. All you can do is do your research, pick wisely, do your best to develop the player, and hope for the best. Overall, this looks like a good draft for the Twins. Outside of Jenkins, there is not much of a "wow" factor, although I am very intrigued by young pitchers such as Soto and Pasqualotto. Very happy that the Twins went out and grabbed more pitchers this time around, I mean, some of these guys have to end up playing in the majors at some point. Let's get the process started!
