  1. I loved the Taylor signing. And yes, I agree that it was one of the more underrated moves by the Twins front office over the off-season. Taylor is obviously a gifted fielder, but I also think he can hold his own with the bat too. Very happy to have him on this team.
  2. Yes, it's nice to see players like LaMarre still hanging in there and contributing, even if it means another long stint in the minor leagues. I guess at some point players like this realize they will never be a regular starter in the majors, so they accept the role of being a AAAA player, or one that is destined to bounce around from team to team. I'm also pulling for guys like this!
  3. Yeah, I'm still getting used to these new caps. I think I'll eventually end up liking them, but for now every time I glimpse one of those hats I think: Marlins.
  4. And in another opener, Spencer Steer homered for the Reds.
  5. I noticed that in the box score too, Shocking. He almost had a homer but the center fielder from Texas made a good catch. And in the same game our old pal Robbie Grossman homered.
  6. Who will be the Twins' top hitter in 2023? How do we qualify this one? Based on batting average? OBP? OPS? Slugging percentage, or which metric ? I'm old school, so all these new stats and measurements tend to make my head spin! For overall hitting, I'll go out on a limb and suggest Nick Gordon!
  7. Way cool indeed. Reading about the Romo "farewell" outing in spring training was also nice. Seems like a good guy.
  8. I always appreciate these updates, but let's hope this thread isn't quite as "active" as last year's flurry of roster moves. Of course there will always be some injuries, but a bit of stability would be very nice!
  9. Yeah, I don't see a huge jump in innings per start. After last year it almost has to get better, but that "third time through the order" syndrome will remain to be a factor for some starters.
  10. Regarding the bullpen this year, I think that having a healthy Alcala is going to make a huge difference. With him and Lopez and Duran in the late innings the Twins SHOULD be in good hands!
  11. Fully agree. Way overdue and I'm sure the players are happy with those higher salaries. But the biggest shock may have been the big jump for players in the "complex league." Frankly, I'm not sure what the means? Is the short-season league for newly drafted players?
  12. Yeah, that's surprising that the Red gave up on Hajjar so quickly, or at least they thought that trading him was a better option. I liked it when the Twins drafted Haijar out of college, and I still think he could be a good MLB starter. And like FlyingFinn said, the Guardians tend to have good luck with the pitchers they develop, so stay tuned!
  13. I didn't know much about Farmer before the Twins traded for him, but he seems like a good overall player, plus the position flexibility is a big bonus. A few years back I also liked Adrianza (back with Atlanta again this year) in the utility infield role, but Farmer seems to have more power.
  14. That was a bit surprising. He was playing a lot of spring games for the Rangers, and his stats looked pretty good. I suppose they are hoping that Garver is able to catch more this year.
  15. Chargois is now with the Marlins and putting up good numbers in spring training games.
  16. Yeah, I'd even go as far to put Maeda in the winner column. Sure, his spring stats weren't great, but he's coming back from a major injury and just to have him out there throwing multiple innings again is encouraging to me.
  17. Not sure if Ryan has a great enough season to get Cy Young votes ... but my own bold prediction has him pitching a no-hitter this year. Yes indeed!
  18. Biggest surprise for me was Sands making the cut instead of some like Coulombe or Hoffman. And yes, we are all wondering about the continuing presence of Pagan. We can only hope that he harnesses his "stuff" and makes fools of all of us non-believers.
  19. I think you are right. Just from box score watching, it seems like the starters are pitching more innings earlier in the spring already, and that's not only the Twins.
  20. I love players with above average speed, not only the ability to steal bases, but running the base paths well, and in general being a disruptive influence for the opposing team. Hoping the Twins can utilize this skill with players (hello, Mr. Buxton!) that have this trait.
  21. I was rooting for DeLeon, especially after his excellent contribution to Puerto Rico's perfect game last week, but after yesterday's shellacking ... ouch! Maybe Ortega has can be the dark horse savior?
  22. Not sure if they were really flaws: both Bundy and Archer were semi-intriguing signings that could have produced better results. Neither one was awful, so I can't fault the Twins for signing either of them. Sometimes you have to roll the dice and hope for good luck. That said, I am MUCH more confident about this year's starting rotation. Go Twins!
  23. Very surprised that Hoffmann was sent down. Looked like he was going to be included in the pen. I would think that Coulombe deserves a shot, based on a stellar spring, but then again Moran could be the one that makes the cut.
  24. Looking like Rooker may make the Oakland roster to start the season. After being traded by the Twins, and then castoff by the Padres and Royals, might he have finally be ready for a starting role in the majors? I know it's only spring training, but Grossman is raking for the Rangers. And even Palacios might make the Tigers squad. Not saying that we miss any of those guys all that much, but it's nice to see them playing well.
  25. That sums it up nicely. High expectations will invariably lead to disappointment. Hope for the best and cross a few fingers.
