  1. I'd be pleased if ANY of those plans came to fruition. Let's just do something SOON rather than waiting around and seeing more potentially good free agents get snapped up by other teams
  2. The A's are notoriously thrifty when it comes to player salaries, but I think the Treinen move had more to do with performance issues, which as others have noted is a red flag. But if he's capable of pitching remotely like he did in 2018 it would obviously be a good pickup for the Twins.
  3. Gray would be a great pickup if we could do it. I don't know enough about the value of various prospects and how many it would take to interest the Rockies, but I think trading for Gray is actually a realistic idea.
  4. Gotta agree with all of those points. The Pineda suspension was the real killer and probably cost us at least one win in the playoffs. And yeah, another quality starter would have helped too. Dream on.
  5. Rumblings? I wish. So far all I hear are mumbles and groans. Still waiting for a trade or signing that actually makes an impact.
  6. But better check that red-nosed reindeer for PEDs!
  7. I like goofy team names too ... to a certain extent. But this one makes my head hurt. And the logo is pretty darn bland for such a "creative" team name.
  8. Obviously is he's healthy he's worth a look. As Seth wrote, he seems like the perfect low risk and potentially high reward sort of signing.
  9. I think we can forget about a big free agent signing like Josh Donaldson or Anthony Rendon. Not going to happen. Maybe a Shaw-type signing would work or another reclamation project with a good glove. I still think Sano is better off at third rather than moving him to first base.
  10. Well, let's hope the front office has a plan in place. They do have a plan, right? I just hope it's NOT moving Sano to first base. As I've said before, I think we're better off leaving him at third for another year and then moving him, not to 1B but as the DH after Cruz leaves. As for first base this coming season, I'm not sold on any of the in-house names, although I agree that we need to stick Rooker or Raley out there soon and see what they can do.
  11. On the bright side, Trevor Plouffe is no longer an option ... or at least I hope not.
  12. Yes, if the Twins are serious about signing another catcher they DO need to act quickly. But sadly, I don't think they will do that. They will play the waiting game again and settle for scraps.
  13. I think the Chisox released Daniel Palka last week.
  14. Sure, we have a surplus of young outfielders, and with power to boot, in the system, but I think we need to be realistic about what sort value they will bring in trades. Even a "proven" player like Rosario is not someone who I think will fetch much in a trade. If anything, we'd probably get some young minor league pitchers in a trade, but not a player who is going to help us this coming season.
  15. Just seeing the name of Kohl Stewart mentioned in this post makes me feel depressed.
  16. As much as people doubt Sano's ability to stick at third base, or perhaps his effectiveness at that position, I'm still not sold on the idea of moving him to first base. What makes anyone think that putting him there will be any better than keeping him at the hot corner? Does he possess the magic hands and quick reflexes that will make him a gold-glove first baseman? Honestly, I think that best strategy would be to wait a year and then let him be the full-time DH after Cruz has left.
  17. Some fun ideas, but I don't see any of those happening in our realistic Twins world. And please, let's not bring back Gibson at this point. Thanks, but goodbye.
  18. That's pretty much my thinking too. I don't know much about Alcantara but these are the types of not-so-flashy trades that the Twins need to make at this point, hoping for another Odorizzi or something even more impressive. Gotta take the chance and even give up some good prospects, but we need more arms.
  19. I'm an "old school" fan of stolen bases, but I also realize how inefficient it can be if the team doesn't have the speed or talented base runners. Obviously Buxton is the go-to guy if he's healthy. But it's not only the Twins who are stealing less, or trying to steal less. It seems like the number of stolen bases is down throughout the sport in recent years.
  20. Ugh ... my headache is back again. All because this would be an entirely predictable Twins move. Okay, new regime and all that, so the chances of such a signing are slim .... but then again ... it's the Twins.
  21. With the upgrades in technology I suppose these changes are just inevitable. I can't even get worked up about it either way at this point. But what will Ron Gardenhire do when there are no umpires to argue with? Frankly, that WILL be a sad, and much less entertaining, day.
  22. When I read that the Braves had declined the option on Teheran earlier this week I thought ... hmm ... he might be worth a look. I always liked him with the Braves, but he just never seems to put it all together during the course of a full season. Flashes of greatness, and then he implodes. Nevertheless, I'd still be happy to have him in the Twins rotation. But yeah, we still need someone MUCH stronger to help out Berrios.
  23. I'd be shocked if Wander Javier is not protected, and to a lesser extent Griffin Jax also. I think they are both keepers. Diehardtwinsfan mentioned Tyler Wells, and he could be a sleeper keeper too. Luke Raley I'm less sure about. Seems like his skills duplicate several other guys in the organization.
  24. I'm wondering the same thing. And how long will they wait to hire a replacement for Rowson? Seems like Rudy Hernandez would be the "logical" choice, but I don't know what the brass is thinking about filling this position.
  25. Maybe Jordan Lyles is worth a look. Getting him away from Coors Field is bound to help both his stats and his confidence.
