  1. I'll jump on the Walker bandwagon too. With the dwindling choice of free agent pitchers still out there, he seems to be the most interesting one, or at least the one with the most upside. .
  2. I realize his innings, or the number of pitches, will be restricted this year, but I want to see him starting games. We need a starter with electric "stuff" and Brusdar seems to have it. Let's get him out there and see what he can do for as long as he can do it.
  3. What's the consensus on Graterol for 2020? In the best-case scenario that he makes the club out of spring training, is he a starter or do they stick him in the bullpen again?
  4. Let's throw in autographed copies of all the Husker Du albums on vinyl and see if that does the trick! Then again ...
  5. Spiked egg nog or not, I'd be happy with most of those scenarios. But that reindeer of reality tells me nothing remotely like that is coming down the Twins' chimney this year.
  6. Interesting to read details about this guy ... but darn it , you teased me with that photo. My first thought was: Yes! We had just nabbed some hot young prospect from Texas! Oh well, I'll keep hoping ...
  7. I hope you're right but I'm still pessimistic. I admit I'm impatient and disappointed in the lack of signings. but it seems to me like the Twins continue to play some sort of waiting game rather than being more aggressive, or proactive, and really making an earnest attempt to acquire what they need to make the team better.
  8. I agree, The Mets would want some much better players or prospects. But as others have already remarked, I doubt they are even thinking of trading him at this point.
  9. I'm happy to have him back, but I have the feeling that this may be the last "name" free agent we end up signing before the new season starts. Time to make a trade and get that starting pitcher we need. Arizona? Colorado?
  10. I agree, I think building in-house is always the best way to go. But that's contingent on the front office drafting better pitchers and developing them properly. For the most part, that has never happened in Minnesota. The best starting pitchers in the past two decades (Santana and Liriano) were either acquired by trade or as a (non-direct) result of the Rule 5 draft.
  11. Actually, I like this idea of signing one of those types to a minor league contract, with the spring training invite or whatever. Sure, Sanchez was the most obvious recent example of a pitcher coming back from the dead, but it's not like he's the only one in the past decade or two. Even the Twins picked up Carl Pavano after his aborted Yankees stint and turned him into a reliable starter for a couple of years. All things are possible, and at this point I'm ready to try anything to improve the rotation.
  12. If Bird is finally healthy he might be worth a look, especially at the cheaper salary. He can launch some bombs when he's not hurt.
  13. The Red Sox went out and signed Martin Perez. No great loss, but at least they did something. Still waiting for that BIG Twins trade or signing. I'm starting to get the feeling it's going to be dumpster diving time again.
  14. I'm becoming less and less optimistic that the Twins will acquire an "impact arm" for the rotation. I still think a trade is more likely than a free agent signing, but I'm starting to feel pessimistic on all fronts at this point. Other teams have been active in recent weeks, but not the Twins. Sigh. The beat goes on.
  15. I'd be pleased if ANY of those plans came to fruition. Let's just do something SOON rather than waiting around and seeing more potentially good free agents get snapped up by other teams
  16. The A's are notoriously thrifty when it comes to player salaries, but I think the Treinen move had more to do with performance issues, which as others have noted is a red flag. But if he's capable of pitching remotely like he did in 2018 it would obviously be a good pickup for the Twins.
  17. Gray would be a great pickup if we could do it. I don't know enough about the value of various prospects and how many it would take to interest the Rockies, but I think trading for Gray is actually a realistic idea.
  18. Gotta agree with all of those points. The Pineda suspension was the real killer and probably cost us at least one win in the playoffs. And yeah, another quality starter would have helped too. Dream on.
  19. Rumblings? I wish. So far all I hear are mumbles and groans. Still waiting for a trade or signing that actually makes an impact.
  20. But better check that red-nosed reindeer for PEDs!
  21. I like goofy team names too ... to a certain extent. But this one makes my head hurt. And the logo is pretty darn bland for such a "creative" team name.
  22. Obviously is he's healthy he's worth a look. As Seth wrote, he seems like the perfect low risk and potentially high reward sort of signing.
  23. I think we can forget about a big free agent signing like Josh Donaldson or Anthony Rendon. Not going to happen. Maybe a Shaw-type signing would work or another reclamation project with a good glove. I still think Sano is better off at third rather than moving him to first base.
  24. Well, let's hope the front office has a plan in place. They do have a plan, right? I just hope it's NOT moving Sano to first base. As I've said before, I think we're better off leaving him at third for another year and then moving him, not to 1B but as the DH after Cruz leaves. As for first base this coming season, I'm not sold on any of the in-house names, although I agree that we need to stick Rooker or Raley out there soon and see what they can do.
