If Boston is willing to give up Tolle for Ryan I'd pull the trigger.

You think Boston is trading soon to be 24 year old that was their starter in game 1 of the playoffs, Pitched 148 innings this year with an ERA of 3.03 and have locked up for the next 5 years for 30 year old soon to be free agent?

If they would you jump at the chance, but I would give it between 0 -1 percent chance of happening.

Joe Ryan won't bring back any significant return. Cuts $12MM for a team that should be adding payroll, not cutting it.

Are you saying that both things can't be done? I don't think anybody has said trade him to save 12 million. And you are probably correct they won't get anybody that will help them next year, that wouldn't be reason the trade him, you trade him because you have an asset that will likely be gone next year and will have got nothing for it.. All this talk every year. well it's got one year left on his contract. it's coming up free agent time for this player. Whoever drafts him you have to let him go or sign him before the end of his contract. players used to be tied to the team that drafted them unless they get traded. so all this worry about lets trade so we get something for him because he's going to be gone after this year like Jeffers I've never liked it. lots of times they don't want to go but they can make a lot more money playing for somebody else so they're in lies the problem for Minnesota. it's no longer a team game. it's a money game. Harmon Killerbrew played his last season with Kansas City. The owners could make crazy money in that situation so I think there should have been some kind of compromise on how much owners can make and overages of that amount distributed to the players. No free agency. That worked for about 100 years.

This organization needs to start thinking like the Brewers and Rays they are not the Yankees or Dodgers. Falvey tried bringing big money FA's in and how did that work out. Ryan will be a FA at the end of the 27 season and will not be interested in signing a team friendly deal. Why would you hold on to a player that will be gone. They just did that with Jeffers and hopefully they learned a lesson. With his history of fading in the second half his value could be less a the deadline.

I'm saying trading Joe Ryan on his own cannot be expected to make a significant improvement to the Twins organization in any way for next year, and probably not for any future year because he has no meaningful trade value and cutting his salary makes no meaningful impact on what should be the payroll capacity of the team.

I'm expecting Joe Ryan to pitch next year. That's something because teams pay players to play baseball. That's why Joe Ryan has trade value in the first place. The team acquiring him also would expect him to play baseball. Teams do not pay players to have surplus trade asset value.

Trading just to trade is stupid. There needs to be an objective, and the objective should be to have a World Series winning team in my opinion. Trading Joe Ryan on his own cannot be expected to make a meaningful impact on what should be that objective. Not this year, next year or 10 years from now.

Haven't heard anybody say to trade him just to trade him, I am pretty most are saying to trade him for prospect or two that may in a couple years and be under team control for multiple years, some are saying that opens up a spot in the rotation for younger guy, FA, and/or maybe somebody they can trade for.

I don't see how keeping him next year with the current roster helps meet your objective of a world series team unless of course they can extend him, then that changes things (I wouldn't do that, but it would change some of the additional things I would like to see done)

I most certainly want them to spend any money they would save by trading him and more, the added bonus would be the prospects they get.

One example and there are probably others would like more (and probably are correct), but lets they offer him 3/50 and he turns it down, Offer that to Bieber, and trade Ryan, even it is for something like SWR and Martin, worse case the results are the same if he stays and the two guys flame out. But the upside is unlimited, guys that maybe help or guys that could be added in a another trade to upgrade the team when another hole opens up.

And what 1 mid-level or 2 long shot prospects are you willing to bet on being valuable players in the future? That's a rhetorical question. The answer is "none."

Sure, the Twins "might" get lucky and one of those unranked prospects works out, but they're unranked because nobody actually expects them to be good. A Henry Mendez or Khadim Diaw level guy is what we'd get back. If you want 2, it's a Ben Ross + Brandon Winokur like trade.

Ryan should have been traded two years ago.  In over 50 second half starts for the Twins, Ryan has posted an ERA over 5.  Hes great the first half but not someone you can count on as an ace during a pennant drive.  Buxton apparently after this MLB season only has a 5 team no trade clause for the final 2 years of his contract.  Not a total no trade clause.  Get rid of him too.  He causes way too many roster problems.  Im not confident in Zoll.

Why do you want to keep him so bad? If the option would be those two or guys or he walks away for nothing, I would take a chance on those two guys. But like I said I paying for his replacement.

Buxton has full 10 and 5 rights - full no trade.

Buxton is a five and ten guy so he gets a veto of any potential trade he'd be involved in.

Edit: Ninja'd, but it's worth saying twice around here.

They needed to have delt Joe and Jeffries at deadline but they were afraid fans wouldn’t have been happy. You don’t run a team like that . Have a plan and if they begin winning fans will come back.
