I absolutely do not know everything about a player, and I still think Jenkins can be a very good player, but we can see when a player is really struggling, well beyond normal growing pains.

To use your word, I also think it's "naive" to not consider that Jenkins could top out at Dylan Crews, a supposedly can't-miss player who was drafted #2 in the same draft when Jenkins was taken #5. To use your words, "baseball is hard."

I'm not sure how to assess Jenkins' performance in AAA. He was outstanding the last four weeks, but he was just OK before that, and Roden, Royce, Wallner, and Sabato, among others, have all had outstanding runs at times for St. Paul this year, which means results may not be predictive.

Right now, he's struggling at choosing which pitches to swing at, and when he does swing, he's not putting much into it. Those are two major changes he needs to make to be successful, and one big change at a time is hard enough, especially at the major league level.

If letting him continue to flail is what the team decides is best to continue his development, then I hope for the best. It seems like a really risky strategy, however.

Again, today was his 11th big league game, and after today he is 38 total plate appearances.

Do you expect every player to come up and be Ohtani immediately?

Take a deep breath. You HAVE to have a longer outlook on 21 year olds coming up and debuting for the first time.

No, Dylan Crews has not panned out so far. That doesn't mean other players will also not pan out.

Hey, if we start out next year throwing Jenkins Culpepper Emmy Houston Keaschall at them, there's plenty of room for a Buxton a Bell a farmer in the dell. Spend on a vet. Jeffers? Langeliers? Lee and Clemens will give stability and continuity. 

If two of the five turn out to be great hitters and or defenders and two of them serviceable, I'm very good with that.

Need to get that #1 prospect up here at the end of next year...catcher..I strongly believe that Cullpepper has do e better due to years in college which Jenkins never had...the #1 this year Lackey? Also played college ball

This is true, but it's a cliche based on survivorship bias. It's like saying I know of a guy who became a multi-millionaire by day trading in his underwear. Even though one person did it and became one of the greatest players ever, many more also did it and have been pretty much lost to history.

Also, there are other differences between Mays and Jenkins (and just about everyone else).

1. Mays' performance in AAA before his call-up was a couple of superlatives better than Jenkins'.

2. Like Jenkins, Mays hit a homer during his poor, but it was off Warren Spahn, one of the greatest pitchers in the league, instead of a position player.

3. Mays was already an incredible center-fielder and his manager may have been ahead of his time in valuing fielding. Jenkins isn't bad, but he isn't incredible.

4. It's been several decades since I read books about Mays, but if memory serves, he was hitting the ball well during his slump. He did have a rough first week, but by the middle of his second week, after some advice from the manager, he started ripping off several two hit games. Jenkins hasn't been hitting the ball well at all. We are now in the middle of his second week, so hopefully he starts ripping.

5. Mays had much better contact rates, but comparing 1951 to 2026 on this stat is unfair.
