Please enlighten us on how you have determined that the players are playing with more effort than last year.

This is definitely a better brand of baseball this season , I have noticed a better fight in the players , last year and other years if the twins were down 3 or 4 runs in the first couple of inning’s, they had no fight and already had dinner on their minds  …

lately the team has been bad , it’s a team that chokes under pressure , no consistency , 3 or 4 hits or solo home runs during the games is very reminiscent of last year and years before …

However this team and Tom both want this team to win.

Tom wants to boost the sale price to $4B. That's all. If he can do it through PR, tough talk and cheap beer, he'll do it. His last resort will actually be to improve the developmental staff and the roster.

I actually want him to be motivated by money. It may push him to look at this team as a business - a failing business - and start making better business decisions.

You realize Lewis wanted traded off the team last offseason right?   It was an awful team situation.  You had a bullpen that couldn't compete.   players in the lineup who couldn't hit.   It was not a good situation.  They were tanking the season and the team knew it.

Lewis was one of the reasons that team was so bad

Hunter,  the Twins have a .009% chance of winning this game.   Does that mean they can't win?  No.  Will they most likely win no.  But this team has come back a few times in similar situations.  Now they haven't come back enough.   Even still a 3% chance for the playoff is still a chance.  We will see how it pans out.

Thank goodness you aren't in the field of player evaluation. And I wish I could dislike this post more than one time.

Do you mean I'm bad at evaluation because I am evaluating Jenkins based on his performance instead of his pedigree?

Tell me: if Jenkins had been a sixth round pick, how would you rate his performance so far with the Twins?

Also, upon what basis should we expect he will be better than Dylan Crews or Evan Carter have been the last few years?

I still think Jenkins can be good, but he looks overmatched at best right now. His contact numbers, hard hit rates, and measures of other skills are all poor. On his last strikeout, his bat speed was below that of a major leaguer. And remember that his poor stats are inflated by getting a homer off a position player. If your best response is to criticize someone with whom you disagree, you should consider whether your own argument is relatively weak.

So then ... it's not a better brand of baseball after all?

I see different players, yes. I don't really see different outcomes.

Not even a Twins crank like myself can hit that level of dissatisfaction.

It's okay. He'll likely be alright. Probably even better than alright.

I hope you’re right, but I have my doubts not with that loooooooooong swing.

Yep, I’m not impressed with him at all

He won't have to go without "baseball activities." Of course he'll be training, as will all of the players.

He had nothing left to learn in AAA. Holding him back because of a lockout scare would have been borderline criminal. I would hate an organization for doing that to me.

Fair enough. It's not so clear that the skills he demonstrated in his last four weeks in AAA were locked in, however. This is looking like a huge jump for him.

I'm not sold on Jenkins' skills right now, but where do you see that he has a long swing? Measures show that it's actually on the short side. Of 22 players who have hit for the Twins this year, he's tied for 9th shortest.

I'm no talent scout. Not at all. But I think he looks athletic, sharp and that swing looks like it could line gappers all day when it finds the groove.

Even while struggling to make contact which occurred in AAA as well he still has a .260 OBP.  Say what you will,  thats pretty impressive and why he will likely be a great major leaguer.  When you take the bad pitches and figure out ways to get on base when you are struggling,  it makes things go really well when you are hitting the ball and I have zero concerns he can hit the ball.

I'm saying baseball is hard, and he has a pedigree and wasn't a 6th round pick, and did everything well to prove he earned his shot here.

AND

Assuming you know everything about a player and who they will be while seeing them play in about 10 total games at the major league level is naive at best.

You realize there is a difference between zero and not zero right?

There is not a non zero chance of rising oceans giving Arizona some ocean front property just like the Twins paltry playoff chances...

I will put money on the line if you want to put your money where your mouth is.

Me either. I still think that Tigers position player they hauled out to lob pitches a few series back screwed up his timing. He'll get it back.

Is it even fair to imagine that Royce has screwed up my hopes for Jenkins?

Patsky, no. You and Peter are the ones I look to for some optimism.

I'm sorry.

Ahhhh Double play.

I'll do better against the Yankees and Guards. It's easy to hate on them.

Yes, it's fair. But thankfully Jenkins hasn't slipped on any offseason ice. Yet. Shelton, get this kid some winter cleats!

Sooner or later, the busted-up prospect curse will lift. That's partially why I want the team to collect a million prospects. So fate cant get 'em all.
