I was sitting at the bar in my favorite hangout this afternoon, when a penguin walked in and grabbed a seat.

The barkeep walked over and the penguin asked him "Hey we're looking for my brother....has he been in here?"

Other duties prevented me from keeping up on this thread.  Nevertheless,

The barkeeper replied, "you've got a lot of nerve showing your face here again."

I dont think Dolly sold the rights to that song.

I could be wro... wron....incorrect.

My memory could be fuzzy, but I do recall Elvis wanted the rights to that song and Dolly didn't do it.

I still believe they've been trying to keep him off next year's 40 man.

If there's a lockout anyone on a 40 man wont be playing anywhere.

They might have had their hand forced tonight.

I think that's it.

I mean, the Twins have never done this in the history of their team. But some people want to believe it anyway.

The Teins have never kept a top Prospect off the 40 man in anticipation of a lookout?

I'd believe that. How many MLB lockout seasons have there been?

Comes that whimsical time of year of most Septembers in Twinkie-land where boys and girls of summer have to start locking in their secondary teams that will still be playing base-ball in the autumn.

The Cubs are always my go-to, since I lived about 4 blocks from Wrigley after leaving the Cities. For the AL, I'm going to go against my very DNA and start rooting for the White Sox. I'd love to see a Red Line Series. Heck, I'd even go back there to catch it.

(Caveat: of course, literally anyone other than NY, Bos, LA, or any Texas or Florida outfit.)

Yeah, but he said that to me.

FWIW - That's not a thing.

No, players on an MLB 40-man roster cannot play during a work stoppage or strike, even if they are optioned to the minor leagues. [1, 2]

Why 40-Man Roster Players Cannot Play
  • Union Membership: Every player on a 40-man roster belongs to the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA), which means they participate in the strike or are locked out by owners. [1, 2]
  • Major League Contracts: Because their contracts are Major League-level agreements, they are barred from team facilities, games, and official workouts during a stoppage. [1, 2]
  • Minor League Status Doesn't Matter: A player can be physically stationed at Triple-A or Double-A, but if they occupy a spot on the 40-man roster, they are sidelined alongside the major leaguers. [1, 2]

Is Gage Jump very good or TC bats very meh?

I say Jump is well above an average pitcher learning how to go after MLB hitters.  Wish he was wearing TC.

Meanwhile  we drafted the illustrious Billy Amick several slots ahead of where Jump went.

They've never held a player back who is ready, That's what I meant.

This delusion of saying he is being held back because of a potential lockout is hogwash/malarkey/BS (you pick the term.) I don't know where someone got the idea that this is the case. It's a madeup problem that's not happened before.

Can you point to any player in twins history that wasn't promoted when they were truly ready?

And, no team should be acting in any way that there will be a lockout.

Follow up; why did they bring up Culpepper? Or add players via trade at the deadline? Are those moves also related to a potential lockout too? Especially adding Hoffman and Kremer, who are team controlled for next season?

Hope you are right...but, money has become such a priority in professional sports. Looking at the details, the sides seem far apart. Hope it does not turn into another half of season.

People can believe whatever they want. I had never met a flat earther until 2000 and have met a number since that time. It's a whatever type of thing. As far as keeping players who deserve to be called up off the roster, there are front office and management concerns that are legitimate about veterans and the clubhouse but nothing related to any potential lockout or other stuff to do with 2027.

Watching Byron Buxton trying to pretend he is alright and healthy enough to play at 50% is getting old for everyone, not just the fans. Buck is respected but he needs a little self reflection. Can he play? Only Byron is going to answer that question it seems. Being unable to cut off that ball tonight should be an answer but we won't know how Buxton or the Twins view that until tomorrow.

I think you're right.  That has seemed to be the case since Buxton went down the last time.  I can see the Twins muddling along and playing Keaschall and Kreidler out in CF and moving around the pieces to make it work.  They can still call up Gabby, Mendez, Emma, or Wallner who are all on the 40-man to keep Jenkins off of it.

FWIW, the Saints are a game behind Indy for 1st in the Intl League West Division.  You'd hope the Twins wouldn't be stupid enough to keep players down on the farm for a AAA playoff run when they have their own fleeting run to worry about, but this is the Twins.

My secondary NYM team is worse then TC so I will be rooting against teams.  So many teams.

That probably means I'm getting old right? Not knowing something like this?

If true, which you may be, then that's contradicting Tom P's desire to be competitive right now. Unless we think Jeremy Zoll is the smartest GM in all of baseball, the other organizations in baseball are operating at normal by calling up their top prospects. Jenkins now has 400 PAs in AAA. I think that's a strong sample size.

I know the rule. That was not the point.

That's what I've been thinking lately. But I agree, I think their hand is forced now. It's tough, because once he's on, there's no taking him back off.

My new guess is they call up maybe Wallner and ERod, rather than taking the risk for next year. But from the injuries, and the effort and results of this road trip, this team is cooked for the year.

If a player is a 10-year veteran, does he have the right to make a call not to go to the AAA team after an injury to do rehab after IL?
