People need to keep writing articles about sending players down. There was one on Martin & then he had 4 hits, including an HR & now this one & Roden had 3 hits including a pair of doubles. Who's next? lol

Ive seen no dime a dozen catcher available that is as good as Jackson.  That is the crux of the argument MMM.  All we need to get through is to Sept 1st when rosters expand and then the silly argument effectively goes away.  

 

It’s wonderful that he has gone 20-66 this year but the sample size is tiny. Savant and Fangraphs both say he’s getting luckier than anyone in the game.

I’d say Jackson but he’ll just continue to be a bullpen catcher and fans will throw a fit about needing a third catcher on the roster that literally no one wanted earlier this year when he was DFAd

September 1 will have no effect on who goes down.  You are only calling up one position player on 9/1.  And most teams aren't calling up a catcher, so that doesn't justify hanging onto a 3rd.  My guess is ERod will be our 14th player if he shows he has shaken off the rust over the next three weeks.

During the offseason fine, even though I disagree.  

The issue is supply vs demand -  there is no other supply currently available that can provide his floor level stats.   He is an insurance policy at one position they have no other insurance of in the minors.   

You do understand how insurance policies work.  We have carried him for 5 weeks as a 3rd catcher,  I can guarantee we will carry him for 3 more weeks until the roster expands.   

Well he has 2 years then of being lucky.

Im just stating what the Twins are doing.  You are the one arguing with their rational.   No sweat off my back.

Roster only expands by 1 position player on 9/1, so why is the decision any different in three weeks.

The only rule is a maximum of 14 pitchers. Even still with 14 position players you should have zero complaints.

It very well could be another player going down. I can see that. But just curious why a 3rd catcher on a roster is so important?

A third catcher is not important in regards to the every day roster... it's almost superflous and I say almost because Jeffers and Caratini will get some DH work where an injury can occur.

However... if they feel he would get claimed they will wait as long as they can before they attempt to get him through because they could try to get him through... get claimed and then Jeffers or Caratini gets hurt. 

 A decision will have to be made when Buxton is off the IL. Could it be Jackson? Maybe. 

As for the subjects of this this topic... Roden and Kriedler.

Patience is required with players just getting their feet wet. Can we show just a little bit of patience with Roden. Who knows what he will become but if you are going to toss him after 55 AB's. We know what he will become. 

Kriedler has been better than expected. He's slumping a bit but his playing time is going to reduce due to the presence of Culpepper... and Culpepper will also require a little patience. 

In the meantime... Roden had a great game today. Congrats Alan... Enjoy yourself.

He hasn't had just 55 AB's, he started the season with Toronto last season and was the regular LF for the first month of the season before being sent down.  He has now had 3 different stints in the major leagues and while showing some production he just hasn't been able to provide it consistently and grab hold of the opportunity.  And unfortunately there are others coming up behind him and he is not a young prospect anymore.  Keeping in St. Paul and he can be an injury fill in but he has yet to do anything to earn more playing time.

Jackson is a tough one.  Holding up a roster spot, but if they lose him completely and Jeffers or Caratini get hurt, the cupboard is bare.  Scrounging the waiver wire perhaps.

Jeffers or Caratini’s playing time gets bumped up and they can call up long time org filler Banuelos to play 2 out of 10 games.

He will get claimed because several teams are looking for a catcher. The Dodgers would probably do it if he made it that far. The Yankees have a black hole at C. That's only 2 and I went with them because of money not being an object to them.

If he can go somewhere else and get more playing time good for him. We don’t exactly need him when he’s had 13 PAs over the last 28 days.
