Former Twins. Where are They Now? 2026 Edition

[Road trip]

Bummer.  Arraez missed out on his 4th batting title by a single percentage point.

Arraez .310
Gabriel Moreno .311

Arraez had 125 more plate appearances, but Moreno had enough to qualify.

Dashawn Kiersey Jr made the Braves 1st round playoff roster!

Moreno is the D-Backs catcher. I hadn't noticed him among the leaders and thought Arraez was a shoo-in to win the NL batting title. Arraez won't be playing in the first round of the playoffs due to an ankle injury.

Tough break for Mario! Mickey Gasper to have bieps surgery and will not play for the Red Sox in postseason. Gasper had a nice run with the Sox and almost certainly would have been on their postseason roster.

Bryan Abreu just pitched a clean 8th for the Astros in game 1. Since they're down 6-2, though, Larnach might have served them better.

Looks like old friend Sonny Gray has found himself in a sticky situation during the playoffs

Too bad Tracey couldn't stick with Sonny after 70 pitches.

Here are the season totals for ex-Twins I found who spent some time in the majors this year.

23 hitters, highlighted by Ty France (4.5 WAR) and Luis Arraez (2.9 WAR), both of whom are going to the playoffs. Not many game-changers on that list.

34 pitchers, plus Berrios/Henriquez/Graterol who missed the entire year but will hopefully return.

Top pitchers were obviously Gray, Varland, and Duran who all had great years. However, I would like to highlight four relievers for whom the Twins got a total of one player who never advanced above AA: Brent Headrick, Steven Okert, Tyler Wells, and Trevor Megill. Each had a WAR between 1.8 and 2.6 and made at least 57 appearances. The Twins bullpen would have been a lot better with even one of those pitchers this year. And we gave them away. Oops.

Some of these players will definitely be in the playoffs, like France and Arraez (and Gary Sanchez!). Some others might be (Gil? Wade Jr.?). Others (Farmer, Kiersey) seem unlikely, though their teams have qualified. Perez and Okert are on the IL, might be able to pitch later on.

Big Dog, this is an incredible compilation, especially the pitchers!  It is amazing how many this franchise has briefly used and then readily discarded.  However, there may be other teams have this same restless attitude to roster strategy over the years.

I did come across Max Kepler who played 41 mostly over-the-hill games with Arizona and could be added to the hitter list as well.
