D.C Twins Verified Member Posted October 4, 2025 Posted October 4, 2025 s I found secret footage of recent FO and Ownership "strategic" discussions
1985Fan Verified Member Posted October 4, 2025 Posted October 4, 2025 As much as I don’t want to see it happen, trading Lopez, Ryan, and even Buxton could be what is needed to create a quality roster to complement their next core of youngsters that can learn and grow together into a playoff caliber team. The problem is, as everyone here has pointed out, the wrong architect is in charge. Get a baseball man with analytics knowledge instead of a stats geek with little baseball knowledge. Falvey has proven he is not a great judge of baseball talent. This years draft pick will be as important as the offseason trades. Falvey doesn’t have a good track record for first round picks either.
D.C Twins Verified Member Posted October 4, 2025 Posted October 4, 2025 Speaking of strateg-ery.... and cost savings.... the absolute hilarity of the completely unnecessary mid-season Rocco extension is the gift that keep on giving.... And make no mistake... this is not just hindsight being 20/20... It was hilarious at the time and will continue to be hilarious for a good long time.

We'll have good picks throughout the draft due to the poor season we had. With all the good young talent in our system there is good things to look forward to. I don't think we have any scouting department left at the moment.
Glorybound Verified Member Posted October 4, 2025 Posted October 4, 2025 Well at least we now know there is some money available “when the time is right”. I know some think that the new minority owners are going to help bring some money in to get this right again. I personally believe that the new owners likely don’t give two flips about the team winning and are only interested in their return on investment. Consequently I see some post season trades being made that will get payrolls down much further still. I don’t think there is a plan by ownership to put even a competitive team on the field the next two seasons. I am sorry that is just what I see. NotAboutWinning and Linus 2

I think his actual extension took place before the season began, it was just announced (edit: not announced, "reported" per Chief) really late. You know, like during a losing streak.

We're all probably being selfish, we should be thankful he wanted to run a baseball team. He could have wanted to be a brain surgeon or commercial airline pilot instead. Or president

Their payrolls were lower than ours suggesting that it is not ownership that is the issue, rather what the FO (Falvey in particular) did with that payroll. IMO both parties are to blame, but Falvey is more at blame here than ownership. Did either Cleveland or Milwaukee have a sudden 40% cut in team payroll? With ownership talking about right sizing and selling the team?

I am not giving ownership an out here, we should spend more, but I just believe most of the blame falls on Falvey. However if someone tells you can spend a certain amount, which no one knows what that was, and you start to spend an increase amount while trying to sign free agents and then they jerk the carpet out from under you, then you are stuck with a poor and out of balanced roster and seemingly high payroll.
