Julien is just as bad at 1B as he is at 2B. A good 1B gets that throw off the bounce, the hop wasn't that difficult. I don't see him returning next season. He's a platoon DH and that isn't good enough to earn a roster spot for most MLB teams.

Unfortunately,  the Twins aren't "most MLB teams".

Santana makes that play, but he's a gold glover.

I would be fine with picking Santana up for the remainder of the season. They need better defense to support these young pitchers.

Happy to see these guys get consistent at bats. I feel like it is something young players need. Especially if you are going to be conservative with them moving through your system.

He is captain ironglove.  Really needs to be gone.

What I want to know is why was Gasper dancing around on the baseline before that catch was made. He should have been standing on 3rd base no matter if the ball was caught or not. He was going to tag up if caught, or walk to home plate if it wasn't. Where was the third base coach during all of this? And besides that, Austin Martin was taking his queues from what Gasper was doing at 3B. He totally was confused by all of that. And again, the third base coaches job is to direct the guy at second base. Once again, our third base coach proves inept, as he has since he has been there. He needs to go. That whole b otched up play was his fault.

One of the biggest problems with the Twins is lack of enthusiasm. You do not disturb the pitcher & wait for him to make a mistake on his own. That kind of philosophy we make average pitchers look like aces. We want our players to play with enthusiasm & aggression on the bases but they need be trained & coached correctly by coaches who know what they are doing. It appeared that the ball was going to drop in for a hit. Martin goal was to score from 2B, Martin needs to get direction from Watkins & what Gasper is doing. Gasper had no right dancing around 3B (he'd score either way, so tag up). Off the bat, Watkins should have had Gasper tagging up & quick to send Martin back to 2B. Because of the delay in direction it caused confusion.

Many fans believe coaches are there only to hand out data & the players are responsible for applying it. While others believe that the young players are responsible for figuring things out for themselves & coaches are insignificant. So why have coaches at all? But I'm in the camp that especially young players need all the help they can get. They need coaches & veterans that have a lot of baseball experience & able to convey that to the players. To have the data & also be there to help them to apply it correctly.

We were down 4-0 (w/o Buxton),  we didn't win the game by playing a reserved, boring game (IMO, we know by now that doesn't work). We won it by being enthusiastic, we shouldn't criticize our players for being so, but they need to be encouraged & better coached.

It is obvious I am a Julien disser, but I now feel kind of sorry for him.  Maybe he can be one of those life long AAA players, who do well there, and now and then get a few games in the Bigs.

I suppose this means Gasper will be here for the next 4-5 years.

I hope so, heck, Julien is still here putting on a glove.

I agree. So the question is does wallner Lock up when there are runners on base or is it just a case that we don't have runners on base very often?

(Ninja-ing Chief) Yes.

I feel similarly.  It's difficult to understand that he can't make himself an adequate fielder.  I think most of us thought, at one time, that he was good enough to make that happen.
