Saw this quote from Royce in an mlb.com article about last night's game.  This mindset is concerning to me.

"It's also hard to make a full in-season adjustment,” he said, “because you can try that and those 30 at-bats of trial goes toward your stats. Do you really want to sacrifice that? And if doesn't work, then you go back to what you were doing before. It's always hard.”

It seems Royce has less filter than most. I don't know if it's a good or bad thing (lean toward negative). He was universally praised for his positive attitude when he broke in and after he suffered serious injuries. Now he says stuff and fans shake their head.

Not pie-in-the-sky optimism from me, but he's had his longest healthy stretch now and he is definitely running and fielding better, the hitting hasn't been good, but he was a #1-1 draft choice for a reason. If he can continue to stay healthy, he'll finish strong and be a very good player going forward. I don't think he will be a superstar, but solid on both sides of the ball.

What gets measured gets results, and people respond to incentives.

Royce is going in to his first year of Arbitration. The stats are how the arbitration process gets settled.

I find the candor refreshing.

But the way you get those sweet sweet stats is by doing something differently when your OPS is in the .600s.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but what do you have to lose when what you're doing isn't working?

You'd think he'd have learned his lesson about saying the quiet parts loud when the baseball gods slapped him down for the last 14 months for saying "I don't do that slump thing"

Royce was arb-eligible as a super-2 this year. This will be his second season of arbitration eligibility.

I'm anxious to see Abel. I would like to see him go 6 or 7 innings tonight.

Mick Abel was a great addition. I'm sad that we traded Duran but our return was great.

Since he broke the long 0-fer in early June, he is slashing .275/.332/.449 (.781 OPS) with 13 2B, 6 HR, & 30 RBI, not great, but over 162 games that's 40 2B, 19 HR, & 93 RBI.

He appears to run hot/cold, like Buxton, disappearing for several games, then carrying the team for several.

The most concerning part with him is the adjustment quote. Something's not working, so you work on it, and if the changes don't fix it, you go back to wasn't working in the first place. That's definition of insanity, I believe.

Lewis may have talent but I don't see him ever being a mature baseball player. He seems to be stuck in 9 year old mode.

Will Rocco let him go any more than 5 even if he is doing well.  Or will they say they want him to come out on a good note.  I am afraid it will be the latter.

Agree...Duran did finally blow a lead...do miss him.. but he may reach a WS with his new team..

Doubtful...at least they have brought him up (hopefully Taj on Sunday) to face a team that has the worst record in the AL.  People mentioned aggressive players yesterday....need to include the manager...in being aggressive at times. I still wish that I could see more bunting and letting players go outside these analytics a bit more. The team is not going to make the playoffs. Now is the time to let batters face a pitcher not based on analytics all the time.They need to face both RH and LH pitchers instead of pulling them frequently. Same with the pitchers against hitters.

I hope they start to be a little more aggressive on other parts of the game also but listening to Falvey yesterday I am just not sure it is in their DNA.  They were very cautious in bringing up Abel and Bradley if he ever makes it up here.  They wanted them to get used to the organization and all his other word salad he likes to spew.  I am not sure it is entirely up to Rocco, they have an organizational philosophy that they are going to follow and we will sure if it follows true to form tonight.  I really hope night, I want to see Abel and hopefully pitch well and to let him go.

I know that they have shown some signs of being more aggressive especially if you listened to Provus last night.  But it stills feel like they are not totally committed.  I will need to see a longer stretch of aggressive play and moves to believe they truly will change.
