bigdave Verified Member Posted June 21, 2025 Posted June 21, 2025 I don't know what Correa's contract status is, but would it benefit the Twins to trade Correa? He appears to be going through the motions. Could the Twins put together a Rafael Devers type deal for Correa? Trade him and Vasquez to the Angels for Zach Neto, O'Hoppe and Demers? Just an idea.
jctwins Verified Member Posted June 21, 2025 Posted June 21, 2025 2023-2032 Free Agent. Carlos Correa signed a 6 year, $200,000,000 contract with the Minnesota Twins, including $200,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $33,333,333. In 2025, Correa will earn a base salary of $36,000,000, while carrying a total salary of $37,333,333. Not gonna happen unless they eat the contract, which they definitely will not do. Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2025 Posted June 22, 2025 Not this year unless you think his MLB career is toast, which I don’t. He’s had too long of a track record of strong offensive performance to think he won’t bounce back at any point in his early 30s. RpR 1

It's not quite as bad as it seems. He only has 3 year guaranteed remaining at 96.5M. His contract after 2028 consists of team options. YEAR AGE SALARY 2029 34 $25M 2030 35 $20M 2031 36 $15M 2032 37 $10M They could eat the remainder of his salary this year and he becomes tradeable for a decent but not great return IMO. The bigger obstacle might be that he has a full no-trade clause. Should they trade him? Probably. As constructed, this team is not a legit contender. They don't need a tear-down but a reboot is looking like a good idea at the moment. Mike Sixel 1
Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2025 Posted June 22, 2025 If the Angels would trade those 3 for Carlos. I hope Carlos and his family will enjoy Orange County. Mike Sixel 1
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2025 Posted June 22, 2025 I think this offseason is the more likely time. Hopefully after a hot summer and fall from Carlos.

I agree they should trade him at the first available opportunity (would require him to waive his no trade clause which I’m sure he would do if he could go to the Yankees), but I believe this team needs a near rebuild

But this team isn't a winning team. That's a good point. Trading Correa, coupled with other Twins' contracts expiring, would reduce payroll by $70M+ going into the offseason. How much of that amount would the front office be allowed to spend?
Gaetti Provisional Member Posted June 25, 2025 Posted June 25, 2025 The Twins are wasting Correa's prime years. Why did they sign him in the first place only to throw in the towel a couple years later? Guys like Pablo Lopez and Joe Ryan are also being wasted and pitchers are at more risk for arm injuries. Was the talk about the Pohlad's selling the team just a smoke screen? I'm disgusted at the state of this team NotAboutWinning 1

Was the talk about the Pohlad's selling the team just a smoke screen? I'm disgusted at the state of this team They signed Correa before they announced they were 'right sizing' the payroll. They also announced that immediately after their first playoff series win in two decades, so the Pohald's probably (foolishly) thought building off of that positive momentum was probably a good time to cash out high on the team, but they wanted to make sure all bidders knew they were going to lower payroll to make it look even MORE attractive. Not sure I agree with the comment about Correa's prime. If he was still in his prime, this team would probably have a few more wins. As to trading him, the Twins would have to eat salary. Would they really put that kind of dead money on the payroll when they're trying to sell the team? Richie the Rally Goat and Mike Sixel 2

If you made me wager, I'd bet CC is here until they don't have to pay him anymore. I really thought he'd be better than this .... I think there are a lot of teams that would like Larnach or Castro. MAYBE Paddock and Duran. I'd just get anything for France and put Julien or Larnach or someone at first that MIGHT have a future. I'm all in on playing the younger guys and seeing what you have.

There are few players I'd object to trading, on the other hand, I'm not sure I want this current regime making decisions about any players controlled beyond this year. No one wants to hear it, but I think there should largely be a holding (sucking) pattern until a sale occurs. These guys could mess things up more, particularly if they are making decisions based on trying save their jobs instead of winning down the road. Linus and NotAboutWinning 2

If they are out of it (and they will be) at the break, I'd rather they deal expiring deals than hold them. At least there is a chance that way.....but yes, I want a complete regime change at this point.

I have no illusions that a sale is coming any time soon. I've already braced for the idea of a long period utter dejection for us fans and the players. Mike Sixel 1
