What makes you think they haven't already suffered that "fatal loss"

I'd wager they've had many fatal losses in recent memory...

The fatal loss was the Texas loss back in August when 90% of this board were happy we took 3-4 from the Rangers. That loss killed us and Rocco not taking Alcala out is what started this amazing streak of play.

The Twins' line-up is homerun or bust - but the personnel doesn't match that strategy. The #1 priority this offseason should be finding a hitting coach that can help the young guys with fundamentals and situational hitting.

Was the strategy and coaching of the hitters bad from May through most of August when they were one of the top offenses in baseball?

'they can still get on a winning streak'. Problem is there is zero evidence of that happening and time is flat running out. Does anyone who has watched these guys honestly think they have a large winning streak in them? Sure, anything is possible but we have to be somewhat realistic and see that their play over the last month has been chronically bad. Losing tough games has been their playbook.

Resting Buck and Correa might have been a strategy, assuming the team had a playoff spot locked but that is no longer the case. Those 2 have to play everyday to help the team stay afloat. Its a long off-season. They can help whereas their replacements....less so. Why 'save' them for only 9 more games?

Twins do have one bright spot. they end by playing the Orioles, who right now are playing worse than the WhiteSox, and if its possible to look worse, the O's are the poster children.

But the grim reaper has taken up residence in Minnesota. They need to figure out how to get rid of him fast.

Nothing more demoralizing than a bad bullpen.

A clarification - the Tigers essentially threw in the towel and aggressively sold at the deadline. How trading Jack Flaherty and 3 other contributing players from the major league roster has spurred them to a 25 - 10 run is unexplainable and a reason the game is so damn compelling.

I think you're overstating the influence on managerial decisions.

Overall philosophy, sure.

Writing out the lineup? Making substitutions? Pitching decisions?

No.

That's the manager.

I'd say the game-in 'managing' was the biggest detriment to the team this summer. Starting with the Sunday Massacre in Texas, there's 4-5 games that the Twins gave away. Imagine shifting those games into the W column? Twins would have the first wildcard spot close to wrapped up.

Correa gave Twins hope and then Santana wrenched it away with an awful AB. Routine DP killed a rally that could have sent Guardians home. Twins needed more than 2 runs and it was right there on a silver platter.

I totally agree with the runs being there for the taking. Even if Santana homers...putting Twins up by 5. Cleveland would have scored 6.

imagine that ..i just tuned into todays game and after a leadoff single in the 2nd..3 quick outs..2 guys (Jeffers and Wallner being called out ... on strike 3 right down the heart of the plate..THAT is what the problem is here..i believe these guys guess a lot.. with two strikes SWING the bat on anything near the plate !!!!!!!!!!

Guess we should have sold at the deadline like the Tigers did 🤔

Honestly, even if we were in a position to sell, we don't have any assets that would have really brought anything back - Santana, Farmer, and Theilbar? Otherwise they might have, and I wouldn't really criticize them for doing so.

The difference between the Twins and Tigers is in the dugout. No one is going to convince that Detroit has a better roster than the Twins do.

Our leader, Correa, missing was a huge reason the team tanked. And I think he become demoralized when they Twins didn't bring anything in at the deadline. And I can't blame him.

Agreed. This isn't what Correa signed up for.

This is so true. It might have been TK that said the worst part of having a bad bullpen is how demoralizing it is to the team.

I'm a Twins fan who actually is cheering for the Tigers to make the playoffs.

Honestly, does anyone want to see this team in playoffs. Give it to a team with some "spunk & pop".

Having Correa and Buxton on the shelf for a chunk of the second half hurt but I think the loss of Joe Ryan has really been devastating to this team. They were 63-50 when they lost Ryan in early August. Since losing Ryan, the team has been 17-23. The month of September has been especially brutal. We will see what happens in Boston but if the Twins don't take the series, I think their season is over.

I am old school and have no idea of happenings behind the scene.  But why not just go with a lineup of hitters who are hitting at the present, regardless of the opposing pitcher.  Boy in the good old days wasn't it Tovar, Carew, Olive & Harmon 95% of the time?  And boy did they hit!
