He has made plays that history shows, Miranda and especially Kirilloff would not have made at First Base.

Yes, Statcast has him in the 82nd percentile in fielding and 12th percentile for hitting. He can still field. That is a good reason to use him as a late innings pinch hitter against LH relievers and keep him in the game for defense.

I think it will be good to revisit this thread as Santana is their biggest offseason signing (no fault of the front office that they didn't have more options to choose from).

We're now at the end of May and our first baseman has a 655 OPS and an 89 OPS+.   The only reason that he isn't a bigger drag on the offense is because we are getting insane offensive production from a sometimes catcher/DH and a SS, two of the normally weakest hitting positions in a lineup.   It's significantly worse against RHP.   He should definitely be only starting against LHP at this point.

Let's bump this again. With the fizzling of Alex Kirilloff, Santana has been a key part of this team. First base depth beyond him is pretty questionable, so one has to think this signing has worked out pretty well. In his age 38 season, Santana has remained a good defender, good against left handed pitching and league average against righties. He is one of the all-time durable players in MLB currently.

Since this has resurfaced.

I was never a Santana hater... nor a Farmer Hater or even a Margot hater.

However... What I questioned was... Even concerned about... was... letting Polanco go and then spending the money saved on Desclafini, Santana and Margot.

How do I feel now? Well the loss of Polanco hasn't been a need for concern based on what he has done thus far in Seattle and Santana has turned into a nice signing.

With Santana replacing what I thought Polanco would be just fine. I'll lay off Santana but I remain concerned about Margot and Farmer.

That concern that remains with me... has been softened by an offense that seems to be thriving just fine.

However... I do not believe that Margot or Farmer has helped the thriving.

I didn't like the Santana signing, but I'll be happy for him to continue to prove me wrong.

But garbage titles like this is what is wrong with discourse in our society. Not enough people are willing to change their opinion on a topic despite evidence elsewise anymore. A certain demographic will NEVER admit they were wrong about something, but condescending finger waiving only makes the people who may be open to change, double down on their positions harder, it doesn't bring them around to see your side.

I agree with this.  Too little humility when one is wrong.

It doesn’t help to run noses in it - we are all wrong at one time or another.

i was wrong about Santana and hope he continues to prove me wrong.

2023 OPS .789 which is higher than what Santana currently has in 2024.

I wouldn't have bet on a .583 in July for Jorge. He has sat the last three games for Seattle. Dylan Moore appears to be the new guy at 2B... they may have run out of patience and I don't blame them.

In the off-season if given the choice between Polanco and Santana. I would have chosen Polanco without second thought every day of the week.

And Polanco's production is only loosely related to the return.

In April 1977...The  Little River Band sang in harmony... "Hang On... Help is on it's way".

Not many know this but the Australian Band was actually singing about 20 year old Gabriel Gonzalez who must be added to the 40 man roster in December 2025 as a 22 year old. He just might help in 2026 and the Little River Band knew this was possible 47 years ago.

To be clear... The Little River Band were not singing about the 2024 Twins. The trade would provide no help for 2024.

It was Stephen Stills who sang about the 2024 Twins.  "If you can't be... with the one you love... Love the one you're with".

I think you mean Carole King, who said of Gonzalez "You're so far away. And it doesn't help to know you're just time away."

I didn't know that.

I knew that Carole sang about Jazz Chisolm in 1974.

Then don’t post in it. Simple as that. You aren’t the arbiter here of what can and can’t be posted. While I don’t like it either and roll my eyes at the trolling aspect of it, I’m also not spending time responding to it.

Both you and Arby need to chill out.
