Roccco is good at making decisions that require no thinking. Just go by the book. His decisions are backed by the book and therfore easily defendable.

But I don't like them. It'd be different if they always worked out, but we know that never happens. Just often enough to keep doing it though. Apparently, because he rarely surprises us with a genius move. Does he ever get accused of out- managing the other manager?

I am just tired of the constant parade of pitchers out of the bullpen.  To expect perfection night after night from a plethora of pitchers is so unrealistic.  All it takes is for any one of them to have a blow up inning and you can put a "L" on the board.

You know who managed "by the book"? Earl Weaver. (admittedly, he also wrote sections of it)

i don't understand this desire for Rocco to be making more decisions that are based on instinct or guesswork or "feel". is it the hope that he'll get more of them wrong and get fired faster?

Most of the time the "genius" moves by a baseball manager are good players playing well at the right time.

We'll probably never know how negotiations went with Michael A. Taylor, but it sure would be nice to see him in CF with Buxton out.

Here here. 👍

Santana is at First for his fielding; Belt would not have any where to play.

Even though Belt has never won a gold glove.  He's always been considered an above average 1st baseman. I don't think you'd lose anything defensively going from Santana to Belt. But it's not going to happen so the point is moot.

They got back a prospect who is essentially equal to the one they sent to the Dodgers in the trade for Margot. If Margot is a waste, it's just cash.

Margot's dropoff defensively is concerning and the sprint speed metrics agree he is slower. It points to an overall decline in athletic ability. That might be due to an injury but it means he's not likely to contribute. His batting numbers keep getting worse, which is another bad sign. I'd rather see the lefty hitters get the at-bat and stay in the game than see Margot pinch hit for them.

They got back a 1st round draft pick?

No one said he was Babe Ruth, but he already has 0.6 rWAR (mostly from his defense). Compared to Margot, I would take that.

Margot Taylor Ruth

42 56 206 (career)

Just curious. Sure in spite of his flaws I liked MAT last year.

The problem is they didn't want to wait him out during

free agency when he was still looking for more money

and maybe 2 years. We can't go back.

I'm putting it all on Rocco.

Last year, the Twins pitching worked BigTime.

You have to let the starters do the workload. Simeon could've gone into another inning. Ober was good for another inning.

You have to use some relief pitchers twice in a row, but you also have to set yourself up that you don't need to use three (or more) in any game.

This game. You need Ober to pitch six. Sands to give you wo innings if possible, as he IS the long man.

Even when you have the game tied, don't send Alcala out for a second innings. You have to keep them punched down...any of the three that pitched Monday should still be able to pitch today. Of course, switching out your top-of-the-lineup in the 5th with Farmer and Margot, who will be your comback guys in the 9th, also shouldn't have beeen in play. Sorry, Rocco...you don't have to use every player off the bench every game.

Of course, it doesn't matter if you win or lose a game. Just how many guys can play that day, and that you keep your bullpen in some sort of rotation, I guess.

100% agree that this loss is on Baldelli! Why the world did he replace Sands after 1 inning only have thrown 13 pitches--especially not having Jax and Duran available???????

The Twins definitely outmanaged the Blue Jays in the first round last year. Not so much against the Astros.

Last 5 games, Starting pitchers 28 innings, 8 earned runs, ERA 2.57,

Last 5 games, Relief pitchers 17 innings, 23 earned runs, ERA 12.17

And the Twins are 3 - 2,

Best bullpen in MLB I am told.......

I love it when people say "I was there" at the game in person, inferring that because of that they have a better take on what happened. That they can see the nuances of the pitcher better. That that makes their opinion more valid. Ha. When I go to games, I have a single view, no close up replays from multiple angles, and am seeing the game, even if close up in great seats, from a distance. There is no way I can fool myself and pretend I get to see the game better if I am in the stadium. I go to be there, in the community of baseball, enjoying the ballpark and the game, sure. I love to go to games. But there is no way I see the game better or with more acuteness. In fact, just the opposite.

Yet, 3 errors already this season. And some that weren't called errors only because official scorers are charity workers. Sure, there are some plays he has made that are very fine, as most first baseman should. Reputation doesn't make his fielding better this year.

He is better than Kirilloff, simple as that.
