I should have relied on TD. I just spent several minutes trudging back through baseball-reference for this tidbit. The year was 2012, and Revere had 40. EDIT to add: And they also had Alexi Casilla and Darin Mastroianni at 21 each. Yeah, they lost 96. MMMordabito 1

Road trip Verified Member Posted September 6, 2023 Posted September 6, 2023 As an MLB tv subscriber I was sent a survey a week ago. There were a variety of multiple choice questions, what do you like, what do you not like, etc. I got one chance to write in my own answer to "How could we improve the game in 2024"? My answer: "Robo umps."

tony&rodney Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2023 Posted September 6, 2023 Lack of concentration by the umpire on those poor missed strike three calls to Kepler and Wallner. Neither was within an acceptable error range if you saw the pitches.

I didn't see the pitch to Kepler. The K of Wallner might have been low. Hard to say, the box on TV doesn't represent the strike zone. Who gives a ****? It's meaningless. Watch the game, not the umps. Who, by the way, are really, really good. Easily the best of all the major pro sports. By a large margin. Do you REALLY think robo umps are going to make the game better? Dave Borton 1

Nobody needed a box on the TV to see that was a ball. I can easily forgive missing a ball/strike call on the outside corner. Those are difficult to call for the best umpires... probably impossible with the human eye. To miss a pitch that is not only low, but also several inches inside? That's incompetent. You can't miss the inside corner as an umpire. Vlad Guerrero would have let that pitch go without swinging. GusGus11 1
