Can we keep Arcia... Mom... Can we?

 

This is an interesting problem with the crowded corner OF and none of whom can play CF every day where we need the help. Arcia must stay up. No way you can send him down.

Chief, do you remember Chris Short, a pretty good pitcher for the Phillies in the 60s? He was famous for only lasting two hours, no matter how far the game had gone. In '64, in the last week when the Phils collapsed, Mauch twice went with Short too long and the Phils lost both of those games.

Vaguely. I didn't pay a lot of attention to the NL in those days, and of course it was a lot harder to follow other teams then, too. I certainly remember Mauch's days with the Twins though.

Yup, after Hernandez left in the second I thought another starter may be needed at some point tonight and a spot starter might get called from Rochester. Now the Twins can resume the regular rotation and until Gibson's services are requested to replace Hernandez or Pelfrey next week.

 

Edit: Check that, Dick says despite Gibson's awesome effort tonight Hernandez has earned enough rope to stay in the rotation. There you have it from a voice of authority. Gibson is less deserving than Hernandez.

Are you questioning his acumen? I just heard him say Ryan Pressley pitched better than Felix Doubront. You rarely find that kind of spot on analysis. He can evaluate talent with the best of them.
