Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2021 Posted August 30, 2021 Randy Dobnak will be activated from the IL to start this coming Friday (Sep. 3rd) vs Tampa Bay, taking the rotation spot of Charlie Barnes who was optioned yesterday. The Twins still haven't announced a starter for Wednesday this week, which would have been Maeda's turn. Albers would be in line to do it, otherwise so could Joe Ryan. Wednesday is also Sep. 1st so rosters will expand to 28 that day.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted August 30, 2021 Posted August 30, 2021 Good, one step forward even if Randy isn't a solution going forward. He's better than a lot of what we've seen lately.

Hopefully, Dobnak will show better stuff than earlier this year. It's been a forgetable year for him so far and nobody likes to watch the games rather than play in them. I heard Maeda is going to pitch on Wednesday, just left handed. He's working on the Jim Abbott glove transitions. He needs those escalators!!!
Dman Verified Member Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 Hoping Randy can find the stuff that worked for him in the past. I still think he can be a 5th starter instead of just a reliever but hard to know for sure. Maybe the league has figured him out and he can't adjust. At least we have a month to see where he is at. Personally I think the mustache will rebound if not the last month then certainly by next spring. His stuff worked before with some refinement it can work again IMO.
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 Welcome back, Mr. Dobnak! And i think some other thread somewhere on this site said Mr. Ryan was starting for the Twins today...
Battle ur tail off Verified Member Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 I honestly don't even want to see him anymore. Stick him in the mopup role out of the pen until his contract is close to done, then DFA.
Unwinder Verified Member Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 I want to see Dobnak succeed, and am cautiously excited that he's coming back. I'm sure he's had a lot of time to think about what went wrong this season and how to correct for it. Hope he comes back revitalized.
Dodecahedron Twins Daily Jail Posted September 2, 2021 Posted September 2, 2021 Not expecting much from Randy this year. Hopefully he gets a fair shot next year and makes the most of it. I am glad he is returning now to get more experience.

He’s had one of the highest ground ball rates since he got to the majors, and is cheap.

Not being able to make his slider slide and sinker sink was a recipe for disaster.
MMMordabito Verified Member Posted September 3, 2021 Posted September 3, 2021 They may not be meaningful games, but at least the Twins will give us a reason to watch with Dobnak, Jax, Ober and Ryan taking a turn each week. I can't figure out what they are doing with the rotation, but it looks like it may be a six-man the rest of the way with Gant and Albers filling it out. Barnes probably gets that DH start against the Tribe. I'll be tuning in to watch Dobnak's return for sure. I hope he's on, because it's fun when he is.
