Bad news, Chief might not be with us for the game thread tonight.

He went to a seafood disco last night.

Wound up pulling a mussel.

My it’s enjoyable to watch a pitcher who throws strikes.  I hope Ober can keep it up. The game moves along nicely as well.

There's a reason he got more likes for his Dad jokes than you for yours ... just sayin'

Funny.

I always think of mussels as fresh water (and seas as salty)

I was fortuitous enough to catch a play off game he commentated a while back. His partner asked him how he noticed some fine detail, and he just said he was paying attention.

In my experience, luck favors the fortuitous.

It's a thankless job, but no one's got to do it.

And the anchor tattoo?

The corncob pipe wouldn't float in modern society...

Even Jacque Tati's pipe got editted out of publicity a while back.

Was Popeye from Mussel Beach?

So I checked the math on the different release points for Ober vs. the MLB average.

MLB average release is 54 feet from home plate.

Ober releases 52.5 feet from home plate due to his length.

If Ober throws a 91 mph FB it takes .393 seconds to get there.

If an MLB average pitcher throws a 94 mph FB, it takes .391 seconds to get there.

So Ober's 91-92 FB is equivilant to a 94-95 mph FB from a league average-sized pitcher.

Pretty cool observation by the announcing team.

Woodford's done. He's sweating profusely.  I thought they said it wasn't that bad a night.   Maybe high humidity.

According to Wunderground ... temps in the mid 70s, humidity in the mid 80s%

I like the way Jeffers always checks each at bat, if he has plate converage with his bat swing.

Actually the most bizarre appearance of Popeye i have seen was in "The Dragon Lives Again" which i only watch because it got mentioned specifically in a short documentary on Bruce-sploitation movies.
