nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Remember that bullpen wins are 100% dependent on the hitters taking the lead... so yes, their record is 0-4. But since this team so rarely scores runs against opposing bullpens, it's nearly impossible to get bullpen wins. True, but 0-1 or 0-2 would still look like a more reasonable record at this point in the year.
h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Overall nice outing by Dobnak, I thought. I'll take one run over three innings from him. It's not his fault the damn bats decided to go dormant after the first inning... Ha! I was just going to post a prediction of Dobnak apologists shining on the outing that he will take the loss on by giving up the winning run...... leaving the game with his 9.00 ERA. Thank you.
Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Who had this being a possible losing homestand after Thursday?
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Notice there is some Jake Cave hate in here...and I cannot agree more. He cannot be starting on a team that hopes to repeat a third time as division champs. We've seen what he is...a decent 4th OF, and nothing more. He gets exposed when playing long stretches in a row, or against left handed starters. To no fault of his own, he's being asked to do both right now. I was asking for an OF signing all off-season (Brantley or Springer, or even a tier below though guys), and it never came. Now we're paying for it. AK can not get to Target Field fast enough. Yeah, I think you gotta bite the bullet and bring up Kirilloff. I don't know if he'll hit, but I know you can't start Jake Cave.
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 They could try not letting the other guys score. That's important, but you can't win if you don't hit in runs. The bullpen has no margin for error at this point, I mean look at us, we're losing our minds when they give up one or two runs. It's masking the real issue that the offense isn't producing.
Mill1634 Verified Member Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 I understand that there is a risk in bringing Donaldson back because of the weather, but I think you have to use him as the 27th man, at a minimum, for tomorrows game against the lefty.

h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Twins have been outscored 9 to 0 in the ninth inning this year - they might need to work on that - hopefully starting now. Just said it was 12-0 on air.....

If the starter exits before going 5, bullpens can get wins in games they didn't trail in.

Mill1634 Verified Member Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 I know it's not gonna happen, or if it did I would be SHOCKED, but Yasiel Puig would fill a nice little role on this team.
Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Pretty much everyone having career years in ‘19 sullied our expectations
h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 It's all that great depth that made Rosario surplus and not needed. And I believe many were calling for Cruz to not be signed so some of that depth, or Sano, could fill is just fine......

Thank you.Okay, I get that he had a meaningless bad inning in that blowout in Detroit, but giving up one run over three innings today while saving the high-end arms from having to pitch is a good outing in my book. I'm no Dobnak apologist, but he's been an objectively good MLB pitcher so far in his career. It sounds like you have some sort of axe to grind with him.
KirbyDome89 Verified Member Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 I hate to say it, but you may be right. It's hard to imagine that he could do worse, but AK stunk in Spring training and hasn't even hit in AAA yet. Do we have anybody else? Maybe sit Cave and play Garlick every day and hope we got lucky?Garlick has been as bad against RHP as Cave has against LHP. It's probably a wash

Just said it was 12-0 on air..... Probably 9-0 in the 9th inning alone, and 12-0 in the 9th inning or later (with the 3 extra inning losses).
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 This game is my bad. Sorry. I'll try to do a wee bit better tomorrow. 7 innings eh? That means we get a bonus runner on 2nd in the 8th and 9th innings what do happen.
