Lewis Thorpe is going to have to get the job done tonight. I love that guy, but this will be just his eighth relief appearance of his entire pro career. Some guys don't seem as bothered by that stuff, and Thorpe definitely puts out that vibe, but this is going to be exciting :)

Let's see. 7 HRs, a triple play, catcher's interference, both starting pitchers out, and it's only the 5th.

What else can happen? Human sacrifice?

He kinda has to unless Baldelli is confident in getting 2+ innings from Thorpe.

I'm hoping for 2+ outs from Thorpe.

Question about Thorpe: if you're Baldelli, do you try to keep him as a three inning reliever or do you aggressively try to turn him into a 1-2 inning guy used more frequently? He has always been a starter so making that kind of adjustment quickly is a big ask but given the state of the bullpen, I think I try to do it.

He's gonna be a 1-2 inning guy tonight. Fact of the matter is, this is probably a 10 day thing, max. When the trade deadline passes, Thorpe will not be in the bullpen.

MAJOR props to Twins nation for u guys holding composure yesterday after my Tribe won and also putting it to the Yankees.   This race for the central is gonna be epic! two outstanding teams that could easily win a pennant

I'm going to have to echo what Riverbrian said.

If' yer gonna be decent, hard not to like you.

Darn it! :)

But yeah, should be a good race this year.

Tonight, maybe not, but the Twins need a LOOGY much more than they need a long guy. Nobody carries long guys any more anyway. Literally any of your pitchers can pitch low leverage innings. Getting a key lefty or two out a couple three times a week in a tough spot is much more valuable, IMO.

Exactly what I was thinking when I typed that post.

Tyler Duffey being in his 5th year as a Twin already is extremely strange. Considering this is his first decent year since his rookie year

To be fair, Johnson has helped him find new velocity and he has learned his slider on the fly this season. The curve has become his 3rd pitch. He is almost a completely new product being put out there.

And Sano strikes out.

Years from now, when men look into the great archives the great line shall be inscribed on the Great Tablet of Stone:

SANO STRUCK OUT!

We softened them up for ‘em.

I think the Twins exposed Liam Hendricks. They put a lot of men on base against him and Oakland was lucky not to lose Saturday night too.

ALL gonna come down to our head to head games in september....  the lead i dont think gets more than 4 games either way the rest of the yr so Twins/Indians will decide our division

Hmm -- some of the between inning things - mascot races - quiz shows could use some spicing up - might be an element to add to freshen things up.

I honestly don't understand why anyone would be bothered by that stuff. Here's the ball... keep getting guys out until I give the ball to someone else.

1 inning - 5 innings whatever.

Soooo, Tyler Clippard just closed out our win with 2 perfect innings...You guys need some bullpen help, right?  Clippard for Kepler straight up... Deal??  :P

Grandfather says to Grandson: "Son, I struck out Miguel Sano! Think of it! Miguel Sano!"

Grandson to Grandfather: "That's nothing. I learned how to tie my shoes yesterday."

Grandfather: "Yes, I suppose that is more impressive. Well done, my boy."

Dont mind the fact that hes like 40 and was not supposed to make our roster, but somehow coaching has turned him into a solid 5th reliever lol

Ditto. He was my dark horse pick back in the day before Tommy John, mononucleosis, his dog dying, and that bad case of the clap took him out of play for 6+ seasons.

Cardinals move. Can always move back to the rotation later.
